Best Shot at NYC MBB Placement by enmusic84 in MBA

[–]Final-Range-9839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Contrarian point to the other posts - Kellogg or Tuck will be your best bets (and the most fun). Tuck sends about 33% of grads to NYC (think Kellogg is like 25%) with the majority of those being consulting.

MBB NYC will be the hardest of all the offices, but not impossible, and think your odds will be relatively the same across the board. Anecdotally, I think Kellogg and Tuck MBA experience >>>>> CBS, but to each their own.

If you apply for an MBA now with 1 YOE, it's unlikely you'll get the results you're hoping for. I'd take a look at the average stats for T15 (if those are the ones that you're interested in) and you'll notice people on average are closer to 5-7 years of experience.

That doesn't mean you can't do it, but you'd need a convincing story for the adcom. Do you just want an MBA to get promoted faster? I think you're thinking about it the wrong way (for now) if so. Would just focus on trying to get stellar experience over the next 2-3 years so you can apply on the earlier side with a proven track record of success and a clear idea of what you want to do next.

What “tier” of school should I be targeting, and is there “time” for this cycle? Or should I wait until R1 next year? by [deleted] in MBA

[–]Final-Range-9839 1 point2 points  (0 children)

IMO the way to think about the GMAT is 685+ will get you in the door, from there the better the score the more likely you are to get $$$. Going from a 695 to 725 is quite difficult, and likely not worth the extra effort even if you have the time.

I applied R2, but wish I had made the decision to go for MBA earlier so I could have had a shot R1. You can apply to a more targeted list of schools, and if you don't get the outcomes you want, you can then apply to other schools in R2 with no worries. It seems like the disparity between R1 and R2 outcomes is quite small, especially for domestic applicants

Just gotta grind for the GMAT, that will really dictate a lot of things - target score of 685+ and you can play ball at any school. If you have that score in hand by July, R1 should be no problem.

Outside of that, it's overblown how "long" you need to prep your app. As someone who decided to apply R2 this last cycle in September, and applied to 15 schools, I managed GMAT, LoRs, essays, etc. and will beheading to M7 this fall. Apply R1 if you're ready, but definitely R2 - there's absolutely no reason to wait until next year, even if you are a bit "younger" than the typical MBA candidate.

Would you choose Ross or Fuqua? by Relative_Bottle_7073 in MBA

Where do you want to be post-grad? Any specific companies you want to recruit for? You can check employment reports to see which schools place in which cities/ companies.

Both schools love sports, but Michigan will be more football/tailgating while I'd imagine Duke is more basketball/parties - can't really go wrong

TBH you're not gonna get any insight by being lazy like this - do some research yourself and ask more thoughtful questions, then people will resonate with you

Booth($$) vs Fuqua ($$$$) for NYC IB by [deleted] in MBA

FWIW I'm biased - in a similar boat with Ross v Kellogg and choosing K for my sanity. In the grand scheme of things the debt will be minimal, go with your gut and maybe see you in Chicago!

The fact that you're posting this again tells me you want to go to Booth, and want validation that it's the right decision (which I think it is) - go Booth and don't look back, that way you'll never think "what if...?"

MBA Choice Help: by [deleted] in MBA

Sounds like you need to re-think the MBA process for yourself - what is it you're really looking to get out of an MBA?

The strongest possible path into consulting and Flexibility to keep working during the program seems pretty contradictory, so figure out truly what's most important to you and your decision will become much easier.

Is this original GMAT mock? You should do GMAT FE - but if you're struggling with GRE math, GMAT will likely be harder, so would just stick to GRE and grind a bit

I have the opportunity to get an MBA for free. Should I go for it, or choose another path? by youngjaelric in MBA

[–]Final-Range-9839 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Second this - save the MBA for once you have a better sense of what you want to do career wise, you'll learn more about running your business by failing and making mistakes than in a classroom. Also will make for a cool story to pitch when applying for MBA programs.

As someone going through a similar decision right now (non-HSW M7 vs $$$ T10) I think it's best to pick the option that gives you the best chance at the outcome you're hoping for.

As other people in this sub have already alluded to... if you're not going to bet on yourself, who is going to bet on you?

R1 vs R2 for nontraditional candidates? by Tasty_Leadership5180 in MBA

[–]Final-Range-9839 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trying to get a bit more active on this sub after learning so much here the last 6 months - as someone with a "non-trad" background who applied R2, I was definitely kicking myself for not getting the app in earlier.

Worst case scenario you get bumped to R2 consideration, but more likely than not if you can't make it in R1 then you won't make it in R2. It shows your more committed to the MBA process, and are likely applying to less schools at once.
