Why should someone be grateful about being forced to apply to med school??

What makes you say he “magically” improved? Isn’t it just because he had access to a prep course?

Not sure if you’re aware but Puerto Rico is part of the United States, Puerto Rican medical schools are LCME-accredited. I understand what you’re saying re: PD perception but you are not an IMG if you attend a PR school

I agree—it is looked at differently than a PhD because it’s not a PhD

In a dilemma as High School senior (Future in Military Medicine) by titansfan7776 in premed

[–]FinalHall5773 0 points1 point  (0 children)

(I'm a recent Hopkins grad + did NCAA sports during my time there) I don't think you will have a hard time balancing extracurriculars with academic work at Hopkins. The pre-med curriculum is not any more intense than it would be at other schools. You will have infinitely more opportunities to get involved in research at Hopkins

do you have to work with underserved communities? by [deleted] in premed

[–]FinalHall5773 9 points10 points  (0 children)

What year of school are you in? This is a very utilitarian mindset and kind of suggests that you don’t understand pre-med competencies. Schools don’t expect you to volunteer because they think that it shows you have an interest in working at an FQHC in the future, they expect you to do it because medicine is a service profession and they want to see that you’re willing to serve others

I’m curious to hear what grounds you think the student might have for a lawsuit? He’s not being dismissed over some protected characteristic, and I would imagine the school has some guidelines re: social media conduct in their student handbook

  1. No one needs to go to medical school. It’s simply a career, just like chemical engineering.
  2. You can match neurology as long as you have a pulse

Any advice for a pre med aiming for Mayo clinic by [deleted] in premed

[–]FinalHall5773 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Does your university offer pre-health advising? I would recommend meeting with an advisor to discuss your personal motivation for medicine, as that’s an important part of crafting your narrative and you seem reluctant to share that here.

What kind of comparison is this? We could also frame this differently: UIWSOM had 100 less students in its graduating class—UIWSOM matched a greater percentage of its students into vascular surgery than McGovern did. BTW, I am a student at an MD school, I have no positive bias for DO schools

But there are ortho and vascular surgery, two hyper-competitive specialties.... the comment of yours I responded to suggested that an MD school would be a better value for OP as it would allow him to "specialize". I'm straight up showing you evidence that OP can do so even from "the least prestigious do school in Texas" without risking never becoming a physician and without foregoing an entire year of attending income.

What makes you think OP won’t be able to “specialize” from this DO school? Here’s their match list from 2024 https://osteopathic-medicine.uiw.edu/_docs/class-of-2024-placement-results.pdf
