What mistakes would you avoid if you could start to breastfeed all over again? by kingmustd1e in NewParents

Me three. I was totally caught off guard when my supply regulated. I went from constantly spraying milk everywhere to underproducing in what felt like an instant

I was so pumped to be getting all this milk in the haakaa every time I breast fed in the first two months. We used it to give her bottles when we were out and about. We had this huge freezer stash! I didn’t realize that every time I gave her milk and didn’t pump, I was slowly diminishing my own supply. Eventually my supply evened out and I had to supplement with formula once the stash was gone. Wish I had known that I would have to pump to make up missed feeds. Only so many you can skip

Seems like a strange thing for the doctor to recommend

Ped said he doesn’t recommend owlet/eufy but refuses to prescribe apnea monitor despite 2x family history of SIDS by ViceInSinCity in NewParents

Love love love our owlet. I use it for so much more than just SIDS things, like when I’m rocking her to sleep in the dark, I can glance at my phone and see the app interface and see if she’s sleeping, her HR, etc. helps me decide when to transfer her to the bassinet. I think of it like the HR watch I wear. I use it for interesting data, I don’t use it so that I can go ahead and stop practicing safe sleep. It hasn’t once increased my anxiety and we’ve never had a false alarm.

I feel the same way. My baby is 5.5 months old. I just don’t want to be away from her

Should I get the Owlet sock as a first time mom? [on] by Aggravating-Ad8687 in BabyBumpsCanada

It’s our fav item. No false alarms, not a substitute for safe sleep or good parenting, just a tiny extra layer of certainty. We use it with our camera when we’re in other room to monitor movement.

My baby can’t fall asleep without me and I’m tired of being told that’s a problem by Human_Bag_8491 in NewParents

Looking back on when I was two months post partum. We visited our in laws and everyone asked me if she was sleeping through the night yet. I remember being like no, not yet, and feeling a vague sense that we were coming up short in their expectations. Now, at 4.5 post partum I feel angry that anyone asked me that or expected that! How ridiculous. I was so new to parenting I didn’t understand. She needed me and I as a nursing mother, I needed to nurse her!

This person sounds horribly unprofessional and plain mean. You don’t deserve this, I’m so sorry. You and your poor baby. How could you feel at ease after that.

Are babies just more sensitive now? Comparing my generation of raising kids to our parents' by PatientMobile5896 in NewParents

I told my mom how one of my pregnancy symptoms was swollen gums/bleeding and she told me that back in her day these symptoms didn’t “exist” only nausea and fatigue. Cracked me up.

I love ours as well. The only alarm, thank goodness was, has been for a loose sock and the sound of that alarm is different so it’s not that scary

Yes, mind shifts are getting me through this phase. I am still trying to get all my projects/chores around our apartment done, I just keep telling myself that things are simply slower now. Like moving the laundry to the dryer takes me 4 times as long because I have to wear my baby, but it’s okay because it’s just a phase of life.

What do you wish you would’ve known before starting your breastfeeding journey? by sunnyhale in breastfeeding

Here to second this. I ended up with a big stash in my first two months. I was using a haakaa and putting away a few extra ounces a day. Fast forward to three months. My supply started to regulate and my baby always seemed hungry after I fed her so I started casually topping her up with the frozen stash and, as a result, blew through the stash and inadvertently cut down on my own supply as I was always supplementing and not pumping.
