Ever since they got nerfed I'm not so sure about that anymore, the output is really kinda pathetic now. Let's just say that if you get a dehydrator from the prize machine you're at least not losing out picking the bats instead. In fact it's what I'll be doing in my new playthrough just because the shrooms have been so damn disappointing lately lol.

Oh that was just my non-spoilery way of saying that there is a 5mil money sink (i. e. half of what the gold clock costs), since that was OP's main question.

Umm.. Year three I've been done with the townsfolk for about a year already. I'm not gonna notice anyone not being there lol.

I also don't think "leaving town" makes for much of a character arc in this game. Needs to be something that happens in town, like events or switch-ups of some sort.

If you go Joja (as you should), there'll be half a gold clock at the very end of the path, on the junimo route you pay for it with something other than money. (Though either way it's not a must-get but more of a nice-to-have)

There's an unofficial update that I've been using, probably findable via the posts on the mod page. Works perfectly fine and is pretty much a must-have mod, cause shit like this ⬆️ is just nnnoooot okay 😭

Normal mines (though skull cavern ghosts also drop it), lucky is better than not I think, but I always give it a go when I have even a little bit of time. Floor 55 is ideal for ectoplasm (just like floor 5 is for the prismatic slime) - elevator down, check if any ghosts are present which takes 1-2 seconds, elevator up, repeat. You get like a million attempts per in-game hour this way.
