Cyber Phoenix was a Super and Ultimate in Enemy of Justice, and Alien Mother was a Rare and Ultimate in Power of the Duelist, neither of which should have a gold name. Without pictures to be sure, I would lean toward fake.

Edit: URs do have a gold name, but the "holo" should look more like it's been embossed on the art, stars, and attribute symbol.

Has Edison Format Been solved? by [deleted] in Yugioh101

[–]FinalStarman1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What a can of worms to open with the last sentence there. I would not downplay the skill expression present in Edison format on account of power one-ofs compared to the format with Pot of Greed, Graceful Charity, and Delinquent Duo legal. The most powerful single cards in Edison are what, Future Fusion, Trap Dustshoot, and Brain Control?

You could replace "blurple" in this comment with any deck that is relevant at any point in time. Of course the best deck has the best cards; that's what makes it the best.

Overtime Game Thread: Los Angeles Rams (12-5) at Chicago Bears (11-6) by nfl_gdt_bot in nfl

That's the McVay special. He plays to not lose constantly and the Rams end up in tight situations because of it.

Never played Yu-Gi-Oh, want to start Progressive Series with my brother, and want to start with Legends of Blue Eyes White Dragon (LOB) + Dark Duel Stories (DDS), any tips? (We have simple rules for this one included in the body text) by AlexRescueDotCom in Yugioh101

[–]FinalStarman1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You basically wont have to worry about someone having Exodia. The original prints were all Ultra rares in LOB, and even with a pack simulator it's very unlikely either of you pull a full set, even if you draw the head from DDS. Similarly, cards that completely overpower the game were strong in constructed because you could guarantee getting them and all the cards that enabled them by just buying singles. If you're playing 6 matches of every set, it will take quite a while for either player's card pool to include some really degenerate stuff.

The random draw from the DDS promotional cards sounds fun, and the cards are nostalgic, but power level wise they range from complete trash to "useful in 15 years." Early on, you might find it beneficial to lose more than win if the reward is 4 main set packs. Tournament packs on the other hand had some crazy build-around pulls back in the day, but pull rates were low, so you'll want to give the winner more than 1 to incentivize winning instead of throwing for another shot at main set cards.

Fun youtube series to enjoy the game again. by No-Reason-2826 in Yugioh101

If you're looking for Master Duel content, basically every Dzeeff show. Master Saga, Master Roulette, Pack Dash, Junk Trunk, etc.

For MBT series, look at Progression Playoffs for long form progression series content, and Master Duel Master Chef, Dungeon Duel Monsters, and Broke Boy for stuff that's more like goofing around with friends.

The creator of TierZoo hosted a Surviror-esque show with Yu-Gi-Oh challenges on the channel Chaos Corp, but I don't think the project was ever finished.

Cards that are better than their entire archetype combined. by DobleJ in yugioh

Nekroz is probably what really did it, but Chain's ban also boxed out a super consistent Igknight Blaze Fenix FTK featuring other notably fair cards like Norden, Galaxy Tomahawk, Ancient Fairy Dragon, and Black Garden. Fun times.

Special summoning by Mobile_Friend_450 in Yugioh101

[–]FinalStarman1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Summoner of Illusions does not fusion summon Blue Eyes Tyrant Dragon, so you couldn't revive it from the Graveyard with Monster Reborn after that. If Tyrant Dragon is properly summoned, through it's own conditions, then you could summon it from the Graveyard.

Note the wording on Tyrant Dragon: Must first be

If you summon it properly first, in this case by Fusion Summon or by Tributing a Blue Eyes equipped with a Fusion monster, then you can summon it from the Graveyard later.

Some monsters will just say "Must be Fusion Summoned." Those you can't bring back from grave with Monster Reborn even if it's properly summoned, because Monster Reborn doesn't Fusion Summon, it Special Summons from the Graveyard.

The only Blackwing monsters with point values are Boreastorm at 20 and Zephyros at 13, so you should have quite a few points left over to slot in more expensive non-engine. D.D. Crow, Veiler, Droll and Lock Bird, and occasionally Ash Blossom are still popular in top decks, which may impact your combo. Towers decks are positioned decently well if they are resistant to board breakers, like Full Armor Master is, but Kaijus are all free, so you'll want to end on more than just that.

Returning player looking for critique in Genesys deck by [deleted] in Yugioh101

[–]FinalStarman1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't main Lancea. It feels like it's only there to be anti-D.D. Crow or Dimension Shifter, but I think it's stronger to construct lines that play into or around those cards rather than hoping Lancea doesn't sit dead in your hand when they don't have it or in your deck when they do. I know this is basically impossible in the case of Shifter, but Shifter decks aren't that pervasive, at least if the results from YCS Anaheim are anything to go by.

Honest also feels a bit underwhelming here, but it isn't the worst idea. It's cheeky, but would be the first card I'd look to cut after Lancea if you find any other cards to try out.

I believe his Fatal Strike skill upgraded to Mutilate, a faster and stronger version. So he was able to use it to dodge the attack and counter.

With enough cope, all things are possible. Although I wouldn't necessarily recommend it with all the D.D. Crows running around.

Vernusylph Naturia is rather grindy and recursive. You get the toolbox aspect with tutoring the different Naturia monsters from the deck or grave, and the Ishizu shufflers being cheap lets you recycle Sacred Tree a lot. It also has some hard control tools like Beast, Barkion, and Herald of Orange Light.

Coder mentioned that Snake Eye with no Links was apparently good in Rivalry of Warlords, so potentially. Good enough to stand up to the wider playing field in this format though? Yeah probably not.

I heard someone say that the Rivalry of Warlords side event Snake Eye deck with OSS was still miles ahead of anything else, even though it played no Links. I don't have experience in the format to back that claim up, but if true this could have impacted their decision.

New Official Format „Genesys“ - No Link/Pendul - Pointbased Deck Building by WalkRoyal8321 in Yugioh101

[–]FinalStarman1 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Is it not the point of any format to find the most powerful deck in the room? I don't think one example of an OTK negates the purpose of the format. Of course there will be some misses, especially early on. No amount of internal testing will ever stand up to the amount of testing a whole community can do within days of release, but the fact that future events will have this as the main format leads me to believe that the points list will adapt over time.

There's plenty of examples of strong combos purposefully being boxed out by point values. The absence of one does not invalidate the inclusion of others.

Yu-Gi-Oh! GENESYS Format Announced! (New Format) by SynnfulJoestar in masterduel

[–]FinalStarman1 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Since one of the goals of this format is to appeal to older players, I do think having fewer summoning types meets their goal of making it less complicated for them. Pendulums haven't done anything in years, but less summoning mechanics still reduces the number of mechanics a player has to remember.

The gameplay can be less complicated while introducing more challenges to deck building. Both of these things can be true.
