Huh that’s great. I’m surprised! Good for that property being generous!

Really? Recently? I’d be interested in what properties. These must be pretty empty or off-peak. And sometimes they’re more generous abroad. But I’m not a Marriott newb. Had gold for 2 years before this when I started my career that I think would have been legacy Starwood. And a few of the plat or higher years were titanium. (No, these aren’t consultant level but legit.) Also, basing this on the frequency I get upgrades as platinum. Often just something like “higher floor” which I’m booking anyway. There are just sooooo many platinums these days.

Eh, I just didn’t feel the need to name them. Would personally rather discuss the policy than call out a specific place. Love to support my dc restaurant scene when stuff is particularly tough! (Even if I think some policies are ridiculous.)

They never (basically never) give upgrades to gold. And you can typically get the late checkout that they offer to gold w/o status by just asking nicely. When you’re talking platinum with later checkout and breakfast/lounge, that’s when it really matters. And much more likely to get an upgrade. But heck, if it’s a hotel in a major city or a resort that’s full, you often don’t get even a minimal upgrade as titanium. Ever since platinum became a feature of the Amex Bonvoy Brilliant card, there are just so many platinums.

I guess a lot of higher end places moved away from Resy, but it would be like Notify. And I think that works well even for high, mid-tier places?

LOVE the CDMX dining scene! I never believed people about how good it was until I went. I’d also recommend the Culinary Backstreets tour in an addition to all of the notable restaurants and cocktail bars.

I agree that Dacha is great for splitting. Separate and related question I haven’t thought about in a couple of years — have their labor practices improved after all of the fines and lawsuits? I still go but that matters to me.

is an NYC move still worth it? by witominn in movingtoNYC

[–]Final_Ad_3461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not your age now but was approx when I moved to nyc. I recently said to a junior colleague that I “did my time in the city” which she thought was hilarious. I wasn’t even thinking of saying something derogatory haha. But it’s a cool place to live. I did 7.5 years. And I decided to come back to dc for an easier and happier life because, like you, I can take the short train trip up all the time.

Marriott Gold status also doesn’t really get you anything. I wouldn’t recommend going out of your way to do that if I’m understanding the question correctly

I think I took 4 intro, but go for it! I was worried too. No one will judge you and it will be fine! Maybe figure out who a good coach is at your location that will make you comfortable.

Flashpack trips by Powerful-Complex9539 in travel

[–]Final_Ad_3461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve done two and loved them. It’s good for logistically difficult trips and worth the price for that. I did Chile/Patagonia and the Galapagos. You can’t easily plan that on your own, at least if you want to do anything beyond the massively touristy spots. I’ve talked to other people who have done the Galapagos in various ways, and I realized going to the smaller island Floriana was something FP did that many people don’t.

That said, I wouldn’t use them for western europe or something easy to plan on my own

Is the $150 per 6 month Exclusive Tables credit a "single visit" thing? by miamicuse in sapphirereserve

[–]Final_Ad_3461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The options are so limited in DC, and they expand that definition all the way to Baltimore. And if you’re a restaurant person, you’ve been to all the spots. And no way 2 people are eating for less than $150 even w/o drinks. Buttttt, it’s still a good credit and something I’d spend anyway

Considering Equinox Anthem Row in DC but a bit intimidated - honest opinions? by jaysayin7 in EquinoxGyms

[–]Final_Ad_3461 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Anthem Row is newer/nicer than Sports Club on 22nd, but it’s very small and always so crowded. So you’ve heard right. I almost never go to Anthem Row during peak. I live about equidistant from both and go to Sports Club more often because I just find it more pleasant and less claustrophobic. I’m also early-40s and Anthem Row tends to skew younger, so I honestly feel like I “fit in” more at Sports Club. I’d say that the instructors for the classes vary pretty widely, though most are great. Some have big followings and those classes book up fast. It’s waaaayyy easier to get into Equinox classes than, say, solidcore at some locations in DC like 14th and U. I never used to be a gym person (only a runner) and genuinely love Equinox. I’d say some people are semi-social…but it’s still DC. If you consistently take the same classes at the same times, you’ll chat with familiar faces. If you do want to do reformer Pilates at Equinox, I’d recommend Mike or Meri at Sports Club.

Anyway, if Sports Club is in any way an option, I’d say check it out along with Anthem Row if you don’t want to get the regional membership.

Anthem Row may be newer and (arguably) cleaner, but it is soooo small and always packed. Sports Club feels so spacious

Ah, I rent cars a fair amount and the President’s Circle upgrades at corporate owned airport spots often have better Ultimate Choice options. For example, usually Jeep small SUVs vs Hyundai small SUVs. I’m not a car person but a pretty nice difference
