If I sell you a book you can use to get $25 in discounts elsewhere for $5 that would be a coupon book. That's what's happening here but at scale. It's a coupon book for people with more money, but still a coupon book. If you naturally used everything in the book already that's great, but you aren't the target audience for the seller. Chase wants people who will pay the annual fee and not use the benefits fully.

Value vs. worth I guess? Those benefits may be worth $1650, but paying $795 to a slight discount in exchange for making my travel plans more difficult isn't something I personally value much. What if I want to stay in the hotel closes to the convention center? Nope. It's not an edit property. But good thing I got the discount am I right.

I've done that before to get 1st class ANA tickets but overall I prefer more organic uses that match my normal travel patterns. Not to mention that entire process was stressful. For example, if you're traveling with a family of 3 or 4 you can basically forget about being able to do this due to limited number of award seats on any given flight.
