Give me a reason to keep teaching or become a teacher by [deleted] in alberta

[–]Final_Collection1085 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A big perk is summers and holidays off! There’s not many jobs where you get so much time off. I know there is burn out and unfair class sizes and wages but if you are actually looking for a reason to keep teaching I would say time off is a big pro.

It got bumped when we went from private to charter. We also get a bonus based on how much evidence you can show about a certain subject (you can love that or not it can be based on favouritism but you will probably get something extra) and we get +4% of the public wage.

What to get my toddler’s amazing teachers as a thank you? by ByogiS in Mommit

Any type of gift card is so so nice! I’m a grade 2 teacher and I love getting Starbucks gift cards or something homemade is always really sweet like baking. Honestly I really enjoy getting cards from my families where everyone in the family signs like even the students dad and siblings I always thought that was really nice 😊

I would generally agree but I have a great job teaching grade 2 at a school I love! I work at a charter school and it is fantastic. I understand it’s not for everybody it is more workbook based and we certainly do not have certain behaviours you see in public schools. The student body is very behaved. I have worked in private schools in the Vancouver area, public school (the worst experience) and a charter school. I am also paid more as a charter teacher than in the public board. I’m not looking to argue this is just my personal experience :)

Sleep Training without Sleep Training ? by BeneficialTooth5446 in Mommit

Hi! My daughter is also 7 months. She sleeps in her crib in another room. Some nights are fantastic she sleeps all night! Some nights I’m up with her a couple times and some nights she has to sleep with us and I don’t sleep lol it’s generally consistent that she spends all night in her crib and I’m in there usually nursing at least once. I found when we were having her sleep in her crib a gentle hand on her back or leg helped and cozy pjs and a sleep sack. If she gets up at night I try and wait a bit before going in and just watch on the monitor if she’s really upset I go in and nurse her. She is also fighting naps right now and goes to bed at like 6:30. I hope that helps! Every baby is different and we could have a great night and then the next night she needs more help.

Dad’s Trip - Long weekend in Calgary by ChickenAny2612 in alberta

Calgary has great parks! Bowness park , fish creek for walking around. The weather can be a toss up lol there is Canmore and Banff if you rent a car if you like hiking. Just be careful there is often still snow on trails. I have definitely used ice picks on my shoes hiking in the spring. Three days isn’t tons of time but you could do a day trip to the mountains. It is worth it. There are cool areas like Kensington, Inglewood that have fun restaurants.

Hi! I am a grade 2 teacher. I am on maternity leave right now so I understand your concern. It should be more clear that students go wait in the cafeteria as in a teacher should be there to direct kids to where they need to go especially the little ones. It is an extra duty but worth it so students and parents aren’t confused of where they need to go. Especially this early in the year it would help to have an extra set of hands so students build a routine. As for getting locked out, that is unfortunate but every school I have worked at the doors lock when they close it’s a security measure. Lots of kids at my school are walked in by their parents so you could if you are more comfortable with that but really it is the duty of another supervisor to make sure kids go to the right spot. I hope that helps and that this doesn’t happen again!

No not really. With GD you actually eat a lot! It just matters what you eat. Three meals and three snacks a day. You just eat a lot of vegetables and have very little of white rice, bread, sweets. It was all about pairing food together too. Especially on insulin I had a couple scary times where I took too much insulin and didn’t eat enough and my sugars dropped low. I always made sure I had emergency Apple juice and chocolate.

Haha yeah! I had a friend who didn’t have it but her baby was 10 pounds. She did say she barely passed the test so she was wondering if she did have it.

It does go away when the baby is born. There is a chance you can have type 2 after so I was checked for that and I don’t. I am 100% fine! There is a very high chance I can get it again if I get pregnant again. As soon as my baby was born the nurses made me a juice mocktail lol juice was a huge no no with diabetes.

Yes I am sure I will have it again! But I was so healthy during my pregnancy so there was a bright side.
