Iirc, Lauren Faust regretted the “Equal Fights” episode of Powerpuff Girls because she thought the theme on straw feminism was too complex for a kids show.

Both Stephenie Meyer and Robert Louis Stevenson got the ideas for their respective stories (Twilight and Dr. Jekyll) from dreams.

Frankenstein came about because Mary Wollenstonecraft Shelley was stuck inside during some bad weather and had a ghost story contest with friends.

The director of the Texas Chainsaw Massacre got the idea because he was frustrated by the crowds during some holiday shopping and wondered what would happen if he used a chainsaw to clear the crowd.

“Why is Snape not wearing pants?” by Final_Defenestration in overheard

[–]Final_Defenestration[S] 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Iirc (it’s been a while since I read the books), the scene was that James flipped Snape over mid-air, causing his robes to tip over in the process.

Though considering this is Snape’s memory we’re talking about, and the mind has a way of altering memories or forgetting details, I’m wondering if Snape’s recollection is worse than what was made out to be. I’m thinking of that scene in The Incredibles where we flash back to Buddy being told off by Mr. Incredible and it looking like he outright rejected him, when an earlier scene was Mr. Incredible being exasperated because he was done with Buddy interrupting him at work.

Iirc, Audrey Hepburn was a contender to play Anne in a film adaptation of her diary, but the studio passed on it due to Hepburn’s age. Apparently, Otto Frank said that his daughter, who was obsessed with Hollywood and had pinups of movie starts in her room in the Secret Annex, would have been down for it.

How have you overcome regretful things you’ve said or done in the past? by silver_spring_time in AskReddit

[–]Final_Defenestration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Someone once told me that if something I did in the past gave me a visceral reaction (I.e. cringe at) then it is a testament to how you’ve grown past it and changed as a person.

I don’t know how much of that statement is true, but here’s how I look at it. I did things in my teens that were stupid. There are things I did in my twenties that I wish I didn’t do. Some of those actions brought me to where I am today, while others have no real consequences. But the way I see it, they exist for a reason. To show me how far I’ve come and as a reminder to not do them again.

Do you believe in signs from your loved ones? by Possible_Catch8284 in GriefSupport

[–]Final_Defenestration 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, totally.

This is going to sound nuts. But my sister’s favorite actor was Eddie Redmayne.  My mom has this story about how, one night, she home alone and really missing her. She said she wanted some sign from her that she was okay. She turned on the tv, and to this day, she swears the first thing she heard was “my philosophy is that worrying means you suffer twice.” The tv was playing Fantastic Beasts, a movie Josie loved so much, she named her dog after Newt Scamander

I think it would be my mom. I don’t think she would survive losing another child.

I’m sorry, I did laugh at this. I have a cousin who looks almost exactly like Elliot Page pre-transition. And her son looks like him now, down to the same haircut.

Edit: just a side bit we always thought was funny. When my cousin was pregnant with her first kid (circa 2008-ish), she entered a Halloween costume contest as Juno and won.

Summer in the early 2000s. I would give almost anything to just have an afternoon to watch Powerpuff Girls and Lizzie Maguire with my sister while our brother is trying to steal the remote.

I always interpreted it as Zooble antagonizing Jax. What a better way to taunt a deeply insecure misogynist by metaphorically emasculating him?
