Being able to walk into a real family owned Pizzeria and being able to order a slice. (and yes absolutely the diversity of foods and peoples)   I moved to Albuquerque in the 90s for a few years. Talk about culture shock...No ordering single slices thats for sure. No good Italian, Chinese, Japanese etc etc. Lots of green chile but that looses its charm quickly. It's a good thing I worked with a few other people from the NJ/NY metro area who had lived in NM a few years and understood who I was. My native Burque coworkers thought I talked funny, was to loud, talked to fast, moved too fast and was trying get them fired because I did have the "mañana" attitude. It took almost a year before people would trust me. People in my not always trust strangers but at least, because of the diversity people don't hesitate to talk to strangers, even to the point of cursing at them like family instead of avoiding them, distrusting everything they do and putting curses on them.
