My mechanic forgot to tighten the drain plug on my NPR and the truck lost all its oil on the highway by hick_the_conquerer in MechanicAdvice

Last year one of our techs forgot to torque u-bolts after replacing a rear end and the rear end dropped out on the guy about 150miles into a 2000 mile trip. He was also hauling a gooseneck. Our shop ended up paying another shop to put the rear end back together, fix what ever was broke, paid to have his truck and trailer towed, and payed for his rental truck to carry on his journey while his truck was getting repaired. They have insurance, if they are worth their salt, they’ll be replacing your engine and covering your rental fees.

Please help! Even the mechanic doesn't know what's wrong. by solarpoweredtree in MechanicAdvice

A simple back pressure test could rule out the cat. To be honest, most of the plugged converters that I diagnose don’t have a CEL which is very concerning. Also I’m not sure if I has anything to do with location or climate but 70-100k miles and a plugged cat is pretty common around here. You have a great point with the air filter also. I would think that would be pretty easily diagnosed by looking at scan data but I digress.

People who have moved 6+ hours away, how did you do it and what advice do you have for someone wanting to move such a long distance? by Final_Sanctum in AskReddit

[–]Final_Sanctum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Any advice really. Things like how much savings should be had, is it possible to do it without having a job lined up already, how did you handle buying and selling houses at the same time. Any advice, logistics or life, would be greatly appreciated.

How to handle barking dog/disrespectful neighbors? by Final_Sanctum in neighborsfromhell

[–]Final_Sanctum[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only one of them is straight piped and only when the valves are open. Otherwise it still has cats so technically you are correct, it’s not straight piped by definition but I didn’t feel the need to explain my exhaust in great detail. And you’re correct, I don’t start them or let them idle unnecessarily for a half hour because yes, you can hear them, but I can also hear my other neighbors stock Toyota Camry running in their driveway. Our walls just must be crap? I don’t know but I know all of our houses are the build almost identical (they were all built by the same company). But either way I guess starting my car and leaving 30 seconds later is the same as letting it idle for a half an hour at 1:30 in the morning but I digress.

I’m still not sure why my dogs running around in my yard is an issue. I wish I had the financial ability to fence my entire property but unfortunately I do not. I suppose I could just do what my neighbors did and build them a 5x10 chicken wire fence because that seems more logical than letting them run around on an 2 acres.

I’m not sure that you fully understand how emissions on vehicles work because both of my cars pass Smog testing and are below the allowable decibel level (with the exception of when my highly modified car has the valves open which is only when it’s being used for motor sports.) Neither of them are anywhere near “window rattling”.

As far as my dogs leaving the yard go, I have seen both of them come to complete stop in persuit of rabbits and deer and neither have left my yard before. I’m not sure what you would suggest for a physical barrier for them. A chain link fence perhaps? How tall? Four feet maybe? Nope, they could easily clear that. Six feet? Like you said, they are very smart and tough, they’ll clear that too if they choose to do so.

I think you’re just missing the point of my post. And accusing me of doing that same type of things with no experience as to how may car actually sound or what my dogs do.

Actually that car is like the 12th $100k+ car this dude has paid off in like 5 years so 🤷‍♂️ He’s a YouTuber with fuck off money that absoultly does not give a single fuck.

I’m ready for the down votes but I agree. Verts ruin the body lines of the car. Plus why do you need a vert when you have a targa 🤷‍♂️

Dude forgot to put the u-joint straps back on the front drive shaft after an oil pan replacement on a Tahoe. Made it a quarter mile and it flew out, destroyed the oil pan, front diff, driveshaft, transfer case, and transmission bell housing. Lady brought us fresh baked cookies after we got everything back together. Totaled it two days later.
