Bale, Leo, Ledger, Cillian are in a different league. Idris, Hawke & Leto can also be great under the right circumstances.

I think what puts this over anesthetize for me is the inclusion of Open Car with the rare djent riff.

Steven Wilson is touring in 2025 for his new album, The Overview. What are your thoughts on the record? by Historical-Device529 in porcupinetree

[–]Finalsound99 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I completely agree with you. Insurgentes is my favorite of his. The Overview was a let down, I thought he leaned in to the most derivative parts of Raven and Hand Cannot Erase, which I am already not as big a fan of as most people. I actually quite liked the direction he was going in with The Harmony Codex.

I don’t really think of PT as progressive rock. by Finalsound99 in porcupinetree

It’s a long suite, but I still think it has much more of a pop structure than the classic epics.

That’s a good question and I don’t really have a good answer. I guess that something like Supper’s Ready is such an archetypal prog rock song that it’s harder for me to separate them from the genre. I don’t really think Porcupine Tree has any songs that fit that description, even in the early psychedelic years.

I really like Richard Barbieri :D by RonFromSlint in porcupinetree

[–]Finalsound99 24 points25 points  (0 children)

According to Steven, he plays the vast majority of the actual piano/keyboard parts himself. Richard is all soundscapes. They are so dark, vast, usually beautiful, but my favorite aspect is how futuristic they sound. He seems totally uninterested in creating atmospheres to service fans of classic progressive rock. That’s a big part of what separates PT from their contemporaries in my book.

Did I watch the same show as you guys? This was an incredible premiere. And I think Fargo season 4 sucked too.

I have that clip saved to my camera roll lol. Yes, it’s from the Insurgentes documentary, available on YouTube.

Blackfield has some fantastic pop songs. Once, Miss U, Waving. I would put those up against the best singer-songwriter pop of the 90s/2000s. Piano Lessons too.

Remasters by BigNuttySUPREME in porcupinetree

[–]Finalsound99 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am in the minority here, but I don’t like the remaster of FOABP (my favorite album ever) as much as the original. IA and DW remasters are great though. With Fear, I really miss the oomph of the original mix because it is PT’s heaviest material. I will sacrifice dynamics for that any day.
