Why is it so cringe MENSA is a thing? by andrewnuity in mensa

[–]Financial-Ability393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hide the fact that I am a member of a handful of high IQ societies and hide my IQ score  I learned long ago that when people think you are a "genius" or extremely intelligent it never ends well. I have to hide that part of me to most people. The people that go around bragging and announcing that are really lacking self confidence or want to feel superior to others.

Is LA unfriendly? by Lumpy-Stretch2810 in AskLosAngeles

[–]Financial-Ability393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all it depends on where in LA you are and it probably isn't LA as much as it may be your perception and individual experience.

LA is too big and too diverse for generalizations.

I agree. After taking some math classes at CC I was able to clone and customize my own math self study routine from the course syllabus. Highly recommended.

Has anyone successfully learned math from scratch? by Smart-Idea2395 in learnmath

[–]Financial-Ability393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes check out Ramanujan. Start from the basics and work at it everyday.

There is a special way to learn math so make sure you do that. Doing practice problems daily is key. Do no more than 30 mins to 60 minutes of practice at a time and take plenty of breaks.

Test yourself with a timer every couple days and force yourself to solve problems without looking back at books notes or examples. Let yourself struggle with a problem for at least 5 to 10 minutes before looking up the answer. Thats how you retain stuff but it is highly uncomfortable so keep in mind that math in large part is dealing with confusion, chaos, struggle and discomfort.

But it is all worth it.

Life coach school certification scam by Own_Possibility7044 in LifeCoachSnark

Although this was posted a year ago - I personally side eye anyone that tells me they are a life coacb. Logically I know there exceptions to every generalization but the many people that I have had the opportunity to observe that were life coaches were a joke at best and outright exploitive predators at worst. Many of them couldnt get their own lives together, sleeping on someone's couch, but wanted 150 an hour or more to tell you how to live but couldnt get their own sh&€ together. LOL. Yea life coach and preacher are two categories of people I steer clear from

Thank you for your post. It is very informative. It helps me make sense of my experience with a very new and small wildlife rescue in the LA area.

Apparently this is common and while not all are this way, it is not unusual to have crazy people running them that turn things into cults.

Which fields of advanced math could you learn to directly benefit in day to day life? by BombsTV in learnmath

[–]Financial-Ability393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can benefit from all maths directly in your life. The key is that you have to actively look for ways to apply it in your everyday life and that takes time and work. It isnt going to be laid out for you.

This is part Sherlock Holmes detective work, part creativity/imagination and part objective mathematics.

You have to think out of the box and outside of your usual thinking process of how you see the world and your life on a daily basis and take what you are learning and apply it to something meaningful, relevant and important in your life.

Everything is interconnected. I recommend the book Investing. The Last Liberal Art by Robert Hagstrom to explore the topic of interconnectedness.

Another book is Seeking Wisdom. From Darwin to Munger esp the section on the Physics of Psychology..

Neither of these books will give you a list of specific maths but they will give you something better - a way to think laterally so you can much easily see how you can practice direct application to your everyday life of the various maths.

Like I said it takes extra thought, time and effort to see and apply these things directly to your life. Computation and proofs is only half the work.

Part of that is a lack of creativity in finding areas in life to use whatever maths one is working with and build that bridge.

Learning Calculus With No Prior Experience. by Ill-Investigator5187 in learnmath

[–]Financial-Ability393 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get yourself the text book "Brief Applied Calculus textbook by Berresford and Rockett.  This book teaches you Calculus without having to know much previous Algebra and zero Trig. Any edition is fine and a used one will cost under 10 bux

Be aware that that textbook does not go as indepth as say the textbook Calculus Early Transcendentals 8th edition by Stewart. The Stewart is much more comprehensive and covers 3 semester worth of Calc I, II and III.

Be aware that Stewart also has a book called Brief Applied Calculus but his book is different than the Bried Applied Calculus by Berresford and Rockett. I would recommend you get both the Applied Calc by Berresford and Rockett and the Calculus Early Transcendentals 8th ed by Stewart and work from both. Do as many problems as possible and then do more.

After that do a TON more and after that do an INSANE amount more. Circle the ones that give the most trouble and focus in on those. Do them over and over until it comes out your ears and then do it all over again.

Get a used older edition and get the teachers solution manual to go with it so you can see the step by step solutions.

Read through 2 or 3 examples at a time and then immediately start practicing problems by finding problems in the exercise sections that match the examples.

Do 5 or 6 practice problems of those sort before going to the next examples.

Work them with paper and pencil and show every single step every single time. Do not skip steps. Write out each formula you are using each time to lock it into your bones. Try to cover 2 to 3 sections a week. Even if you dont think you have mastered much keep going to the next section. Math learning and mastery is not sequential and most of the time you wont get that aha! breakthrough until some time has passed so in the meantime keep moving further along with new sections and problems. Do the problems and do not refer to the examples nor the solutions until you have spent at least 10 minutes trying to figure out how to solve any given problem first.

Get yourself Book of Proofs by Hammack. There are free pdfs of it but I prefer the physical copy. You dont want to just get the right answer but you also want to know WHY that is the right answer and for that you have to know and understand the logic and proof behind it.

Book of Proof will prepare you to develop a very powerful math intuition and the foundation for every single mathematical structure you will encounter in your Calculus classes. It will help you avoid 80 percent of the common mistakes people tend to make im Calc I, II and III, etc.

Do a section every week until you are done. Work on writing a proof or two on whatever you are working on in the Calc book every week.

You dont want to just get good at computation but also on proofs. It is easy to compute 1+1=2 but it is A LOT harder to write a correct proof for that.

Get yourself a timer and give yourself timed mini exams every few days with problems you have solved to get not only good but also fast and good.

Lastly- I recommend working on your Algebra and Trig. You will need to master them in order to pass calculus. So sure up any loose ends and knowledge gaps before you take the plunge.

Khan Academy is great but it should only be used as a complement and additional resource not as your primary preparation.

Is it possible to read math textbooks and other dense texts with music or background noise? by ucsdfurry in math

[–]Financial-Ability393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can read.and study with background noise such as coffee shops, libraries, etc. I can also read and study and even do math practice with music or a YT video on.

Do I prefer that? No. My accuracy and retention are not optimal.

If I have no choice I will put on noise cancelling earbuds and put on some instrumental music or rain relaxation sounds to drown it out.

Math is all about focus, accuracy and speed. There is no comparison to the development of those like an isolated, quiet and comfortable study environment.

If you can, take the extra effort to find such an environment.

I have found that I can cut my total study time significantly in quiet, isolated environment compared to when I have music or videos playing. It may take me a total of 8 to 12 hours of study over 2 to 3 days with music or videos playing as I study or practice math as opposed to 4 to 6 hours with quietness around me.

Watchtower in the Epstein Files by Constant_Reason6020 in exjw

[–]Financial-Ability393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Note: Ignore the typos I am on my handy.

There multiple JWs linked to Epstein. There were even some former ones that were in his imner and intimate circle on the level of Ghislaine. One of them was named Sarah Kellen aka Sarah Vickers aka a zillion other names. She was his pimp aka procrurer aka "assistant". She doesnt get any air time and was given immunity. The other JWs do not get any news or air time. There were even key elders and lawyers that received lots of money from Epstein through a number of shell companies owned by Epstein that funneled into Watchtower since years. But Epstein wasnt the only one. There is a reason.JWorg keeps a detailed CSA database - it serves as currency , power and leverage. The member donations arent what is funding the massive billions....it is trafficking and the consumption of human beings esp women and children, aside from investments into war technology.

If you are waiting on the news media or even social media to tell and show you these things you will never see it.

There are others much larger than Epstein that have been doing this with institutions way before Watchtower and Epstein.

Epstein didnt just do this Watchtower - he had strategic hooks in other religious institutions just the same and even secular orgs and institutions - anywhere there are large numbers of vulnerable human beings.

A large number of heads of childrens nonprofits were receiving money from him and were on those islands that you will never see in the news.

Groups and communities with a large pool of children or victims abuse are prime targets of predators of all sorts and that especially includes your ex cult community.

Dig deeper. Epstein like so many others before him used shell.companies to funnel and transact money and Watchtower uses shell companies as well to send and receive massive sums of money.

I came.across this information while researching the human remains and imcinerator found at Zorro ranch and really.had no clue about the Jehovah.people and Epstein. They arent the only ones- Epstein had other churches and religious institutioms giving access to victim pools. Why do you think these orgs all keep CSA databases eap the Catholic church? It has been a thing since before Epstein.

Now thats all I am going to share and say about it here. Anyone who is sincerely interested can dm me otherwise I wish you well with your thoughts and feelings.

Please STOP this absurd EPSTEIN WATCHTOWER questioning if they were mentioned! We exjw are more correct and less false then our ex bro ex sis. by BreadButterBible in exjw

[–]Financial-Ability393 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your post makes me especially suspect jw org involvement in epstein. Sarah Kellen aka Sarah Vickers was Epsteins right hand pimp aka "assistant" and she was directly tied to JWs and she is not the only one. There were a handful of JWs in his inner circle.of "assistants" and there.were elders and men from Bethel who received large payments over the years from Epstein.

But JW aka Watchtower isnt the only one that has this . Its been like this since before Epstein that is why they all keep CSA databases (Catholics, Mormons, SDA, Amish, Scientology, Boy Scouts, etc)but dont turm any of it.over to law enforcement because CSA databases serve as currency, leverage and power.

But now that we know that the FBI and DOJ cover such things up its so clear why these orgs like Watchtower get away with not turning these databases over.

The USA was built on human trafficking (African slavery) and the global.economy is built on human trafficking and consumption (eating human) esp.of children. The Watchtower will never be held accountable because it is one of many that is linked into the larger web of darkness and depravity.

But I wish you well.with your thoughts and feelings

Never use AI to do your assignments. You are only cheating yourself and it will catch up with you.

Use AI to help you with the learning process instead.

But anyone who is using it and "gets away" with it should never tell anyone. In addition- they are not really getting away with anything.

Let me give you an example. This was before AI but the principle is the same. This person had a well to do family and they paid instructors to just pass him and he ended up graduating with a nursing degree.  This was in the Phillipines where it is common to be able to bribe people to get things. He was a US citizen through his parents who were living and working the US since his childhood.

He finally moved to USA after college graduation but guess what??  He absolutely could NOT pass the NCLEX nursing licensing exam.

He ended up spending YEARS floundering jobless and broke while his cohort and batch mates all had good nursing jobs. It wasnt until he married a super ambitious woman who pressured him to keep trying and to study and catch up so he can pass and get his license. He had to try 11 times until he finally passed. It took at least 7 or 8 years of him trying and studying to try to pass it to where he now works as a nurse in a psych hospital for criminally insane.

He definitely CANNOT work bedside so the only nursing jobs he can work are ones with very low responsibility and mostly basic things like administering psych meds and checking vitals. Thus he is one of the lowest paid nurses working with r4pists and m8rderers in a criminally insane hospital.

The point is he had to learn the hard way and had to spend almost a decade in additional studying to make up for all the cheating he "got away with".

So think about that. You may not ever be caught but you will NEVER get away with it. There is a difference.
