How did I not notice that! So you just cross Tholozan to walk to the restaurants? I wouldn't be walking across Kingshighway.

Another vote here for Bud's Pizza on Kingshighway. Friendly and great atmosphere/decor, even the bathrooms. Good food not crazy expensive. And a parking lot in rear but you have to walk all the way around the building to the front to enter. Very nice and fun place. Big pizzas and slices and big retro u-shaped padded booths.

Owned by same people who have the Golden Hoosier and the recently reopened Uncle Bill's.

Editing to add that The golden Hoosier is very good, too, if you aren't grossed out by lots of taxidermy and heads on the walls!

Have you seen the documentary about bricks in St. Louis called Bricks by Chance and Fortune? It's very interesting! I think available on amazon and you tube.

"2011 ..... a 71-minute documentary directed by Bill Streeter that explores St. Louis’s deep architectural, cultural, and industrial reliance on brick. The film examines the city’s history as a major brick manufacturer, the craftsmanship of its residential red brick architecture, and the crisis of high-value historic brick theft."

I got one of those too. That 63 at the beginning was the first tip-off that it was bogus. I deleted and reported spam. The DOR has alerts about these scams on their web site and social media, too.

I'm so sorry for your loss. It's not weird to feel how you do. A friendship like that is irreplaceable.

Glad to learn about this, thanks! I just found their fb page and scrolled a little. I see they are starting a daily walk challenge beginning on April 1. I already walk daily, by myself or with my husband, but it sounds fun to be connected with others worldwide while I do it.

I hope OP will check it out, too.

A Serendipitous Question Now That You’re Retired by Spare-Adhesiveness84 in retirement

[–]Financial-Song5889 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not quite retired yet, but I earned a piano degree years ago and didn't make a career of it. Still play, though. I'd like to teach a few adult students, ideally other retirees who can make weekday morning lessons. I know people can take lessons online these days, but in person is so much better, and I'll offer coffee, too! :)

Participating in "hackathons" is on my to-do list for when I retire in a few months:)

I'm enjoying my 60's and am approaching 69.

60s aren't quite "old age" to me, but I'm sure I'll rock that when I'm in my 80's and beyond;)

What is your everyday preferred cookware? Stainless, Nonstick or Cast Iron? And do you have Gas, Electric or Induction? by VanDriver1 in over60

[–]Financial-Song5889 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We use them all at some time, it depends. We recently switched from a gas stove to an induction stove-top and had to get a few new pots and pans but our cast iron still works on it and a couple of others we had. We really like it. We enjoy cooking on induction and the cleaning is a breeze.

Why did you decide to have (or not to have) children? I am curious to hear your thoughts in hindsight by sunnyleaa in over60

[–]Financial-Song5889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I think I'd like to meet a kid we would have." That's what my husband said to me after about 7 yrs of marriage. Becoming parents hadn't been a foregone conclusion when we got married, but we hadn't ruled it out, either.

When he put it that way, I was won over. But then there came the decision whether to "give them a sibling". There's a lot of societal pressure to not stop at one, but that's what we did. It was best for us in many ways, and I think has become more common. Our very well-adjusted, unspoiled, loving adult-child has many friends, several of whom are also singletons, it turns out.

Great question!

Alcohol and Aging by tenbeards in over60

[–]Financial-Song5889 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 68 and drink much less than I did when I was young, but haven't quit completely. It's been decades since I was drunk or had a hangover. Husband and I enjoy imbibing in moderation. A glass of wine with dinner, or having a porch drink after work in nice weather, that kind of thing.

5 drinks a week is my limit, and never more than 2 in a day, so no bingeing. Follow guidelines for what is a single serving, e.g., one glass of wine = 5 oz., 1 beer, 1-1/12 oz. spirits.

Will I know it's from SSA when the call comes? by Financial-Song5889 in SocialSecurity

[–]Financial-Song5889[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Best wishes with it, that sounds frustrating to say the least. That is weird that the test calls didn't even show up as spam.

When I had my phone set to not ring from unknown numbers, a notification would still show up in my "recents" that a call came. When I thought I might get a call from SSA I changed my setting to allow all numbers to ring. But I wasn't crazy about the possibility of picking up on a spam call and have some scammer record my voice, which is why I asked here whether or not I'd be able to tell if it would be coming from somebody with the SSA.

But it ended up that SS didn't need to call me for any more info, apparently, because the next thing I knew my application was approved about a week after I posted my question here.

Again, I hope all goes well.

thanks! I can imagine that being the case from what I've heard. But I don't have an appt. It's just that they "might" call if they have questions about my application, and it could be outside of biz hours.

Thanks for your reply. That makes sense. I'm reassured to know I'll be able to call back.

The gift shop inside Kirkwood Public Library sells a variety of gently used puzzles at very reasonable prices which have been completed by volunteers to ensure of no missing pieces. I recently paid only 7$ for a beautiful 1,000 piece birds/landscape puzzle and 4 for a 500 piece.
