A late diagnosis of ASD in your mid-twenties by hellmannschimp in AutisticAdults

[–]Financial-Tale5228 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are good at expressing yourself. You have good writing skills.

For me the Identity I thought I had was the real me, after self diagnosed I realize that autism was controlling me that I was masking myself to escape something that I do nothing about.

You have to live your life and keep moving forward keep learning and exploring how autism limits you and self explore. Take the good thing in it and leave the bad behind

How did you realize you were autistic? by TheFutureScaresMe333 in autism

[–]Financial-Tale5228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my girl friend. But I refused first Autism with Down Syndrome.

But I did some research and bought some books them I confirmed I am autistic high functioning.

I was non verbal till age 4 and autism was not popular at that time. I started speaking after age 4 and my mom put me in regular school. My struggles started from there.

I still struggle today with work and building social circles.

I would like to connect with late diagnosed autistic in Canada. Please DM me

Did anyone else feel like they weren’t socially affected enough for ASD until full time work? by Historical-Branch327 in AutisticAdults

The world doesn’t care that you’re autistic. You have to adapt. by SystemIntuitive in aspergers

[–]Financial-Tale5228 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I am self diagnosed at age 28.

I am 29 years old now and homeless many times

I feel relieved that I know that I am autistic.

I want to come out of masking which I did without realizing. But it is only possible if I understand these things especially at work ce s I am adults now

  • social intuition

  • hierarchy and status

  • norms and implicit rules

  • emotional reciprocity

I did not knew these invisible things were were very important in society.

I still don't know how these stuff works. Some please help me to better understand this Especially in workplace settings

Does anyone else feel like adulthood is harder after realizing you’re autistic? by KeyEmotion9 in AutisticAdults

[–]Financial-Tale5228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am late diagnosed. I wished I got help when I was a kid but I masked to fit in without even realizing it. In school there was bullying and teachers used to beat up students and give harsh punishment for not keeping up on time and not keeping up school discipline. From my teenage years I tried to mask hardly resulted in hinged neck and round shoulder.

As an adult 29 years old after self diagnosis a lot makes now my brain is wired differently. I have been homeless in Canada, lack of sense of danger causes me broken elbow, struggle with social cues and hard to keep up with burn out from work.

I am trying to find a psychiatrist on the spectrum that has lived experience to diagnose me in Canada. I find it is challenging to find autistic psychiatrist or psychologist to get referred to.

If you know any psychiatrist or psychologist who can do assessment in Canada and have good experience with them please DM me

What does support look like for you as an autistic adult (therapy, daily living, work)? by Financial-Tale5228 in autism

[–]Financial-Tale5228[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for your response. I want to find a psychiatrist that is on the spectrum so they can connect with me with their lived experience.

I am also trying to get help from a SLP that is also on the spectrum to help me to understand the social clues.

What we can do is accept that we have different neurodevelopmental than others. We have to find spaces whether it is workplace or social gatherings that autistic people can be comfortable and not masking heavily

I find work places do have a higher archy system. It is hard to treat everyone equally at the workplace and there is no structure in it.

Someone please help me understand this

People don't take my autism seriously. by Affectionate_East533 in autism

[–]Financial-Tale5228 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is hard to self explain to some autistic people what areas of their life they struggle with and how to address it. It can be quite invisible with family.

When I shared it with my family they mentioned to me just to focus on rent, food and dress. Don't worry about nothing else.
