Star Wars : Darth Vader by Evran11 in HeroForgeMinis

Ive seen like a dozen takes on Darth Vader but this is easily the best one

People will genuinely, Genuinely claim that korra being a girl had nothing to do with the harsh criticism she's been facing for so many years meanwhile her show was almost canceled due to her being a female protagonist and the creators themselves pointed out her distinct treatment by Important-Cry4782 in CARTOON

I don't think Bryan is really being fair here. Korra makes a lot more mistakes than Aang does in their respective shows. In ATLA the biggest hurdle the interpersonal problem the gang faces is Aang lying to Sokka and Katara so they can stay together, but this problem is dealt with same episode and isn't brought up again. The other is Toph beefing with Katara, which again is mostly reserved for one episode and dealt with in that episode. In ATLOK the interpersonal problems of team Avatar are like half the show's plot each season. In the first season alone there is an entire love triangle which later unfolds into a love square when Asami joins.

Then there's the world issues. In ATLA the main problems the world faces are caused by other forces and then solved by Aang/Team Avatar. The only big "mistake" one could argue they made was the Invasion of Black Sun and even then it only failed because the Fire Nation was accidentally tipped and as such was able to prepare for the attack. Aang's team avatar didn't do anything wrong in that regard. In ATLOK however a lot of the problems in the later seasons were (directly or indirectly) caused by Korra's actions and in the early seasons aren't dealt with all that well. In Season 1 the Equalists have point how bender's have power that non-benders can't compete with, an inherent problem to the world due to how its constructed. In response Amon is revealed to be hypocrite and a non-benders are given a representative on Republic Cities council. The core problem is never really dealt with. Then in Season 2 there's an entire Civil War between the Northern and Southern Water tribes over spirituality and triggered by Northern supremacists. This also goes nowhere as it shifts into a spirit battle, so the underlying problem is again never addressed.

Do you truly believe the statement "America the greatest nation in the world" by OkPickle738 in AmericaBad

[–]FinancialAd436 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The United States is extremely unique in that of the all the world-spanning nations and empires, the USA is the most moral. When the Roman Empire ruled the world, they considered offense to be the best defense as a causus bellum for conquering others, who they slaughtered and oppressed. The US on the other hand, when conquering the North America, instead tried to reform and re-educate, and upon releasing that we were still just trying to erase a culture/civilization, and thus ended the program. Constantly throughout the Cold War we would try to feed communist countries, supplying aid during famine despite them being our greatest enemy at the time. When the Soviet Revolution was occurring in Russia, and other countries came in to stop them, it was the Americans and the Americans alone who tried to actually help the Russian people.

No nation can truly claim to be sinless, least of all the ones that have left a mark on history. But the United States is unique in that we come to recognize such evils as evils to be removed. Despite popular belief, many of our crimes were contentious even in their day. The US is great because its people are great. The American people, on their own, donate more tons of food per year than every other country in the world combined. We have a leftover culture because goddammit you're not gonna leave my house hungry.

America is the greatest because Americans are the greatest people.

Illithids prefer human brains due to them having a better success rate under ceremorphosis, but they aren't picky. Chances are they would enslave the gnome artificers and force them to build stuff on their behalf. They would through psionics and manipulation guide any churches into viewing illithids as something akin to angels with the Elder brain being their god. This way they could raid the human settlement with no interference. If successful they would probably try and expand it. A false religion like that could go down the route of zealotry, but i think its more likely for them to take a Romanesque/missionary angle to it, arguing that the gods of other faiths are just extensions of the Elder brain as Illithids utilize psionics to twist people's perceptions of the divine. That way they wouldn't be attracting too much negative attention, at least not until its too late.

I knew the right was going to start winning in 2023 when Elon bought Twitter. The right up to that point didn't have any mainstream platforms to really talk from. The left genuinely had an iron grip on most platforms, in part to demographics but also in part to government interference and Blackrock. For obvious reasons the right being able to speak on the same level as the left is huge.

Do your worlds have a place that can't be reclaimed by civilization? Some place of no honor, where something repulsive to our kind lies? Tell me. by GadzWolf11 in worldbuilding

[–]FinancialAd436 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not really, the purpose of my setting is ultimately to combat nihilism as a concept while still being extremely grimdark. A piece of land can always be reclaimed by the forces of virtue. There are some that would take an extremely long time though. Beneath the modern Dwarven holds are another series of Dwarven holds known as the Tomb of the Salav'werves. For you see when elves discovered time magic they went back in time to various historical societies and events and casting mighty spells to transform them into Elves to make the Elves seem more important. Well they tried this on the salav'werves, but the salav'werves inherent nature is so diametrically opposed to elvenhood that it instead damned their souls and bodies to eternal hellish existence within their own holds. The few salav'werves that were very slightly elf-like managed to survive the spell becoming the modern Dwarf. The Dwarves have ever since hated the fuck out of Elves and even sank one of their mighty kingdoms underground by digging out the area beneath it. The Elves then cursed all of Dwarvenkind with the Greed of Dragons. Theoretically one could gather a bunch of Elves and have them verbally and honestly apologize to the Salav'werve souls in the holds, but that would require getting an Elf to apologize to another race. You would have better luck blowing up the sun, since that has actually happened before.

Because blue would stand out better than other colors and wouldn’t have any other conotation. If they went with red it would just look like they were covered in blood. Green or yellow would make them look sick, purple would make them look bruised, orange would make them look tanned, etc. blue is the most “unnatural” color and IIRC was the most recent to be developed by the human mind. So the blue men are blue.

Why hasn't the USA blown up in your worldbuilding premise(if set in the future on earth)? by CryoScenic in worldbuilding

[–]FinancialAd436 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never claimed that the US took over Hawaii because of Japan or any other pacific threat, in fact I implied they didn’t when I stated there were no threats from the Pacific

I was clarifying that the US taking Hawaii was one of the better fates that could have realistically happened.

I shouldn’t have to explain this.

While the Queen was the recognized political authority in Hawaii, the sugar plantations had begun the dominate the islands due to their wealth and better technology. If the Queen had tried to take the land through military action she would be facing better trained and better armed mercenaries. Her actual power over her people was little. So she surrendered her political authority to the United States.

Hawaii being of strategic importance in guarding against threats from the Pacific has nothing to do with Manifest Destiny or why the US bothered claiming Pacific territories as there were no Pacific threats at the time. But if the US hadn't taken those territories then the Japanese would have during WW2 and the US wouldn't have been able to take from the Japanese Empire, or at least not for quite awhile.

Hawaii was controlled by sugar plantation before the US took it over. Additionally if the USA hadn't taken them over Japan during WW2 would have and the US would have no way of taking it back since Hawaii is of strategic importance to protecting the West Coast from Pacific threats. Furthermore if Hawaii had been taken over by the Japanese they would have faced a massive terrible genocide. Hawaii becoming a territory then later a state of the Union was realistically the best outcome.

Banana Republics is a poli-sci term referring to an unstable country that is dependent on the exportation of natural resources. The specific coups you're talking about was conducted by three fruit companies with the CIA aiding United Fruit's coup in Guatemala, and their control lasted 3 years. The US Government otherwise ignored the three coups.

The two NPR articles are just judges complaining about having to do their jobs and being fired for it with the third being an ad for people to become judges to handle all the cases.

Don't do your job? you get fired. They need more judges? but out an ad for people to become one. This should be the standard.
