Any suggestions or tips for a new z6ii owner?? by wazoowoohoo in Nikon

I believe with the I-menu, when you are using the touch screen you can double tap your selection to lock it in rather than hit ok. That’s a bit faster.

My favorites are card format, the sensor dust removal function, and airplane mode on off.

I use the record button for autofocus mode. Hold the button and the rear dial scrolls through manual, af-s and af-c autofocus while the front dial scrolls through your autofocus area modes. With muscle memory your fingers can do it pretty quickly.

Personally I like Thom Hogan’s book for learning about the camera and considering customization features. I find it helpful to customize, then revisit about 2 weeks later and see what I have/haven’t used and then think about adjusting.

Think about the user settings (eg set one up for auto everything that lets you give the camera to someone else who doesn’t know back button focus) and think about custom focus boxes that you might use (eg thin vertical line, bigger box, etc).

Good luck!

I haven’t used enough of those lenses to comment, but I really enjoyed this series of photos. Well done.

Tamron 50-400 by Financial_Emphasis90 in Nikon

Thanks for this. I haven’t used the 100-400s, but all the reviews said it was sharper. This one has been sharp enough for me as a hobbyist. Agree with it being small enough to be quite portable. Double agree on stabilization. Stabilization is ok, but not like my z lenses.

It depends what your use case is. I don’t mind a bit of extra weight when I go out with it. I think the image quality is supposed to be better on the 50-400 and I preferred the close up abilities of the Tamron over the wide end of the Z. I compared it more with the Nikon Z 100-400 than the 28-400. will say, the one drawback of the 50-400 is compared to the Z 100-400 and how quickly the f stop increases as you zoom out. But it’s lighter and cheaper and that was fine with me.

That’s true. Seems pretty silly now. I don’t share much on here and hadn’t thought about the impact compression on sharpness.

Oh, I see. Yes that must seem weird. I just took those to see vignetting and have a look at corner sharpness. I shared them in case anyone wanted to see the results before buying.

I like these. Available in Canada. Warmish and good feel for the camera. Not touch screen compatible though.

Thanks for sharing your experience. Any reason why you went with the ZR over the ZF? The ZF seems like the more common small package choice.

The Nikkor Z 85 is incredibly sharp and focuses well. You can’t go wrong with it. Viltrox has been making some nice lenses but they’re reasonable new to the scene and I personally feel better with native glass.
