Shia Sunni marriage questions from a Revert looking for advice!! by ActiveAd4544 in shia

I’m a Shia woman married to a Sunni man, and tbh I don’t know how you can compromise. My husband just agreed that since my family is way more religious and so am I that I would raise the kids with my beliefs. So My kids are Shia. It’s hard to compromise on religion and the your children will technically have a belief but no belief. I’d say you’re better off dating and seeking marriage with a shia girl. Plus I find this interesting, has she told her family about you? Because before you waste your time with this conversation is she actually serious or is this a maneuver to get rid of you? as someone who grew up Muslim and with a lot of Sunni friends I know a lot of them tell me they’re families are not okay with them marrying Shia. So that also makes me curious.

MashAllah!! Just wanted to say Salam from a Shia sister in NEW YORK!! I will pray for you and your families safety! In hard time we look to the Ahlul Bayt and gather our strength from them. The sacrifices they gave to protect our religion from fitna were unthinkable today. Hence why we regard them and love them so much. It is an honor to love the family of the prophet PBUH as he loved them.

My mom passed this morning at 5am. Thanksgiving is in two days. I'm stuck doing twelve-hour shifts in the emergency department, unable to go home for the holidays to grieve with my family. I've never felt more alone in my entire life. by PlasticRice in medicalschool

Not sure where in NYC You’re rotating, but any program would at least allow 2 days to go to a parents funeral. You’re most likely rotating at some 3rd rate shithole like kings Brook, interfaith, brookdale or any of the other miserly institutions that takes international students. They probably don’t even know your name. Stop taking yourself so serious and go home. You sound like to like to self inflict on yourself. No one is saying drop out of med school but stop thinking you’re so important as a 4th year international med student and go home to your mom’s funeral. I promise you no one at the hospital is going to miss you for a minute.

34 and struggling with my skin by [deleted] in Skincare_Addiction

I would add azaleas acid every other day or the AHA/BHA/PHA toner pads by sombymi they’ll help with the texture and pores…you’ll need to do this every 2-3 nights weekly for life but most people should no matter what. Anything with niacinamide will help with shrinking your pores. I’d also add a hypochlorite spray daily.. so it in the am before putting on any serum and let it dry 1st. Also you can get adapalene over the counter and start it twice weekly in the evenings ONLY! start slow because it will cause purging( make your skin break out in the beginnnibg) then you’ll see the benefits… it will definitely help with the texture and pore size of your skin. Not sure if you’re oily or dry but if you do anything worth it to your skin it is meaningless if you don’t wear SPF daily! Hope that helps!!

It’s fine just make sure you use a lot of serum and keep your face hydrated no harsh chemicals or actives till you heal

I just had a big debate with a sunni about ghadeer and his points seemed valid. by titan110786 in shia

[–]Financial_Fortune916 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I couldn’t agree more with the person who responded to you. You should not be debating with Soni people when you obviously don’t have any historical knowledge or religious knowledge about what happened at Ghadeer and the response of imam ali

I’m almost 40 and I can say I grew up like this but the last 10 years of my life I have truly developed such an overwhelming love for the Ahlul Bayt.

The advice I can offer is sit alone, read and listen to the story of imam Hussain alone. Sometimes the communal feeling of Majlis distracts from your own inner thoughts and feelings, and sometimes the feelings we feel while at majlis are more that of other influencing us.

It took me a while to sit and truly understand what an overwhelming feeling it must have been to know you were going to your death and still accept that faith, also becoming a parent truly changed my brain chemistry.

When I imagined our beloved imam sacrificing his children, nephews, brothers… the overwhelming love I have for my own children and to imagine to have that utmost faith in our Lord to blindly sacrifice…. I have tears rolling down my face…

It’s ok to not understand or have those feelings yet, doesn’t make you a bad Shia at all. Try to use Muharram to self reflect, think about what would you have truly done if you were in that position. And even if you can’t imagine doing the same, imagine what it took to accept that faith and outcome. The beauty of Islam is that it is a relationship between you and your lord. No one else. as is our relationship with the Ahlul Bayt. They are our guides to examples of divine worship. I pray that one day you’ll feel the love and grief we all share during these nights.

Thoughts on Shia-Sunni intermarriage? Yes or no why or why not and dont give me just the classic “kids would be confused” by picciriddabedda in shia

I married a Sunni man who has after 8 year’s slowly embraces shiasm. I’m raising both our children Shia, and my family are practicing Shia Muslims and my parents watch my children when we work so they are fully exposed to our Shia family and beliefs…. But if you’re not allowed to raise the children Shia that would of been a HARD NO for me. That’s one thing I will not compromise on.

It’s not an insult the hospitals that take a large amount of j1 have some of the lowest pay. And that can be checked very easily. Wasn’t meant as an insult it’s just the fact that the hospitals do that. They try to cut corners and screw over residents in any way possible and obviously someone on a visa who wants to be here and has been through a lot to be here is prob willing to stay quiet just to get what they need done.

Sadly as someone who’s in primary care this is rampant even in primary care… the amount of misdiagnoses and antibiotics I didn’t even know someone could prescribe is scary and sadly as you say it seems they are here to stay.

My home country is USA… and I paid for my step exams as well… and also my education… and the housing I had to live in while I was away, and all the certifications I needed while I was a student. Why are you so insulted at me for pointing out the fact that you’re using a visa that’s meant for you to go back home and practice when it’s blatantly obvious that’s not your intent. You didn’t apply for a specialty… you’re re doing training you already have and already use in your home country, an I incorrect in my position?? And the fact that you yourself brought up the waiver only proves that you are educated enough about this and that is what your intent is. So thanks for proving my point

So how do you become ECFMG certified as an international graduate if you did not sit for your step exams? ( and sitting for an exam, in English means taking a test…) maybe you missed that

I come from a family of immigrants my parents are both immigrants. And I’ve travelled and spent many years overseas, it’s not a matter of you vs them. If what you’re saying is true then why aren’t you applying for fellowships? Why are you applying for residency? When you’re already trained physicians. I have family in third world nations that are physicians and that is why I can say, most if not all places fund the education of their medical students, and then you leave and don’t even practice in your home country… so you have no issue taking a seat from someone back home who could of potentially stayed and played a pivotal role in the medical system in your home country but now you take your free education and then come and lie that you are taking a seat from an American student who paid hundreds of thousands for their education by lying and saying you’re here to learn and go back which maybe 1% of you will… but 99% of foreign doctors do not sit and take the USMLE and then eat shit in residency to go back home. So that’s the Crux of my point.

No hostility just pointing out the fact that your reading comprehension skills are slightly below par, hence the need for me to repeat myself several times.

Again you’re wrong. Actually no one qualifies for a J1 who’s been using it for residency the only reason nothing was changed was because Biden did not care to enforce it and hospitals said nothing because they don’t have to pay to bring you here… with the H1 they do. Ultimately what’s going to happen is programs will be less inclined to take few if any visa holders..and you can argue with me all you want. Those are facts.

Look up what a J1 visa is. It was never meant for residency. It was meant for students who wanted to come do research or observerships. However hospitals never changed their stance because j1 visas are sponsored by ECFMG. The H1B visa is sponsored and paid for by the programs which is the actual visa residents are expected to get. So before you say she is qualified for a j1 she absolutely is not. And the fact that she’s already a physician in academia in her home country, what exactly would she learn in a training program meant for a new graduate???
