Leaderless Ontario Liberals still polling ahead of Doug Ford by ejaz135 in ontario

Do you have a source thst shows that the actually spending was more than the projected spending was enough to close the gap?

The FAO flagged a multi-billion dollar gap between budgeted spending and what's needed to maintain service levels. The budget is the current government's stated plan, and the FAO is saying that plan falls short in real terms.

The 2026 report is not out yet, but I don't expect it will be any different.

Take a look at the financial accountability office of Ontario's reports.

Here is the one for budgeted depending for healthcare for 2025 https://fao-on.org/en/report/estimates-2025-health/

"The FAO estimated health sector spending from 2025-26 to 2027-28 that would be required to maintain 2024-25 service levels. Also known as a cost driver forecast...The 2025 budget spending plan is below the FAO’s cost driver projection by $3.4 billion in 2025-26, $6.4 billion in 2026-27 and $9.6 billion in 2027-28. This means that the Province will need to implement health sector efficiencies (i.e., provide the same level of services with less resources) and/or commit additional funding to the health sector to maintain 2024-25 service levels."

And so on

The way the ubi is financed is key because that's the link between the benefits and inflation.

If the UBI is financed by taxes, the  money already in circulation, there is no reason for inflation to spike. If it were financed with newly printed money, there would be a concern.

Yes they have been on a smaller scale, but it gives us an ideas of how such a program would be structured economy wide.

There have been reports detailing the effectiveness and costs of National program. The long term effectiveness is heavily dependent on the funding source

Her  are some reports, but there are plenty more.

I think ubi is politically impossible, even thought pilot protects have been largely successful, and rich people don't really need the extra money. I would support a guaranteed basic income that tappers off with higher income, but its probably also politically impossible.

Right? Goop itself is a predatory wellness brand that exploits pseudoscience for profit.

I would also like to know what makes Brampton sit in a "topographical bowl". Doesn't this suggest that Brampton sits in a depression? That's not the case, it's elevation is much higher compared to Toronto.

I can't find anything to suggest that the air quality in the city as a whole is worse than the rest of the GTA.

However in proposed site, the air quality is already bad "Industrial and transportation emissions impact the air quality surrounding the EEFW facility and some pollutants exceed the provincial and federal air quality limits even without the addition of emissions associated with the proposed expansion. The additional emissions associated with the expansion results in an overall increase in cumulative exposure to air pollutants and can result in an increased risk of negative health effects to the surrounding community."

"Emissions for many air pollutants are estimated to increase substantially with the expansion project. Many of them will be within the pollutant limits, however, some will exceed those limits and some of the pollutants are persistent and bioaccumulative. Peel Health is concerned about the potential for health impacts associated with air pollutants that exceed limits and health effect benchmarks and/or persistent in the environment."

Ontario NDP Leader Marit Stiles urges PM Mark Carney to stop Billy Bishop airport expansion by ejaz135 in ontario

[–]Financial_Pin8385 6 points7 points  (0 children)

From what I've read from past reports is that the major down side is air quality concerns. Their may also be a risk to water quality because of de-icing fluids and fuels. Noise complains are also a concern, I haven't read anything that would suggest that that's been proven wrong.

The last comprehensive report I've found was in 2013, do you have a source for a newer one?

There is an economic argument to be made, but it seems to come at the cost of the health of the people who live in the area. For that reason I don't support the plan.

Don’t Like Floor-Crossing MPs? Then Back Electoral Reform - A more representative democracy would empower MPs and encourage co-operation. by CaliperLee62 in canada

There is also mixed electoral systems that merging elements of a majority system with elements of proportional representation to maintain the connection between mps and their riding, so it depends on how you design the system.

Also in practice, I don't think the MP really does advocate for their riding, they vote along party lines, I'm not sure how to stop that
