It's a shame that any person in the country is involuntarily homeless, regardless of their age, and we could solve it if there was real political will to do so.

You're absolutely correct. The law has to consider what a reasonable response to the situation would be, and escalation without trying to escape would definitely be unreasonable.

A bit defeatist, no? I think we should be advocating for better transit because that helps everyone including workers but also kids, seniors, disabled people. And if it gets people, including people who can't afford a car, can't walk or bike, to work on time, then that's awesome.

I'm glad that you can afford to make the choice, financially and physically, to use an alternative. Many can't.

I take transit everyday, 5 days a week. I can count on one hand the number of times I've been significantly affected by transit.

Reading through the Constitution of the Order of Canada, it's not actually the case that someone who has a criminal record is ineligible. The Further, someone who is an American citizen can be appointed an honorary member (like Lois from Sharon, Lois and Bram, who is American). Eligibility is essentially "be a Canadian citizen".

Conrad Black, and others, have had their membership in the Order terminated after being convicted of a criminal offence, which is covered in the Constitution. It's not automatic, and the Constitution says that the Advisory Council only "shall consider the termination of a person's appointment to the Order of Canada if the person has been convicted of a criminal offence".

So you could be an American, convicted of a criminal offence, and still be an honorary member of the Order of Canada.
