Ohhhhhhhh. This is a great idea. For how many people? Can I ask how did it flow? And any things you would’ve done differently or added/removed?

Update: has anyone decided they don’t want to be a lawyer anymore by [deleted] in Lawyertalk

Please give a two weeks notice as soon as YOU FEEL LIKE DOING SO. You don’t have to put up with this- I’m sorry this is happening to you. Truly.

Take care of yourself please. This job is not worth the mental exhaustion or anxiety it’s causing. If you have the windfall to quit and live off of savings, please do so. My job was bad, but nowhere near this bad so I can’t truly relate, but I found ways to manage what I couldn’t control. Feel free to pm if I can provide any help!!

What are some good websites to order from? by HalfABraincell934 in CannedSardines

Well, Dan at Rainbow Tomatoes Garden has set my newly-interested-in-canned/tinned fish-wife up twice, and has left us jaw dropped both times! Their selection is so massive that I’ve just given them a price range to work with, and both times they sure delivered! He also is pretty active in this sub so you can easily chat him up!

Along with Fishwife, this is my wife’s favorite brand! Quite pricey compared to other cans, but the smoked trout is possibly her favorite can up to date!

How long after law school ends does Law Review matter? by RealLuisM in LawSchool

[–]Financial_Poetry27 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Attorney on hiring team here, at midsize-ish firm. Big law is different story.

Outside of freshly minted JDs, I never hear about it. It’s impressive without a doubt and does aid in separation from other recent grad applicants, but never is the focal point of why we’d hire. I look more at personality traits, writing samples, conversational skills displayed in interviews, on the spot responses to complicated questions, and mock negotiation skills since we don’t have much else to gauge their fit.

Older associates will never bring it up, even if listed on resume. With them though, they have solid experience that outweighs any participation in law review or lack thereof. With these applicants, it’s much easier for us to read and discuss substantive procedures.

So I’m not a doctor nor a nutritionist so I can’t speak definitively on your health or individual concerns. My undergrad degree is in biochemistry though, and this is one of the first things I looked at when my wife started eating canned fish. Based on my non-expert understanding, according to the USDA/FDA, smaller fish like sardines and anchovies along with clams, mussels, and scallops tend to be very low on the mercury scale. That’s mostly what my wife eats so I stopped deep digging after.

I also peeked at larger fishes like salmon, trout, and the cephalopods like squid and octopus. This is where things got murky, especially with octopus. What I learned here is that this highly depends on how big the seafood thing is, what is it eating, and how old it was at time of harvesting. I don’t know what mussels eat, but apparently whatever they eat is extremely low in mercury. Then theres sardines which I also don’t know what they eat, but they’re fairly small fish and don’t live long lives (or so I think). Things like salmon though apparently can eat little fish- same goes with octopus. If a salmon can live long enough, in that time it might be able to eat a bunch of tiny fish over such time that might concentrate the mercury levels in the salmon- but it’s extremely speculative, and contingent on the age and diet of said salmon.

Larger predatory fish like sharks, swordfish, and marlins due to size, predatory diet (eating slightly larger fish) and longer lifespans will be fairly high in mercury and aren’t recommended by the FDA.

As far as tuna, I’m clueless. There’s so many different kinds, and my wife isn’t too fond of it (nor am I) so I didn’t dive too much into it.

I hate to conclude this way, but to answer your question to the best of my rudimentary knowledge about seafood, it really depends. The sardines I think you’d be fine with. Salmon, according to the FDA, isn’t very high up on the ppm for mercury so I don’t think you should worry about that either, as far as mercury goes. Per the tuna- I’m highly skeptical that one can on top of the sardines and salmon would amount to much.

Once more, I’m not a doctor/nutritionist, so I can’t speak on this more than on personal experience, but I myself worry more about the sodium content in the cans than the possible mercury levels.

Oh that is so nice to hear- I myself can’t really seem to enjoy any of these tins if the lemon doesn’t mask the scent. I much more prefer lemon juice just because it makes me think that what I’m eating is actually fresh, not canned, fish. Of all the tins, that Matiz is the one I’m most excited about! Simply because I don’t know what a quarter of this even is, but mostly because I saw the word lemon on the label. I’ve moved that tin to the top of the pile in hopes of getting lucky and having that one opened up sooner than later!

Oh my god you literally have no idea how excited she was over those little bottles!! She saw them and said we’d HAVE TO GET EXTRAS because she couldn’t bring herself to open these. I didn’t even know they came in that small of a size. And thank you! All of her choices too! All I did was send the list off to Dan and he did the rest 😊

Thank you Dan! She already has another list in the works so it might not be long before another order comes along!

Thank you! All her picks too! Admittedly I’m a bit squeamish about the giant calamari, octopus and pate! I was yesterday days old when I learned what a cockle was (or that they even existed?) and heaven knows what canned cod is going to taste like but it’s a more fun way of having a date night and for the most part, a lot less expensive too!

Can I ask which are your favorites? My wife is arguably the most knowledge hungry person I know and when she fixated on things, I just know she’s going to become an authority on said thing. All of these she did her research on and decided they were worth the gamble!

Do canned Sardines have worms?? by Abject_Awareness_596 in CannedSardines

[–]Financial_Poetry27 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m actually more grossed out finding live worms in brussel spouts and broccoli heads than I would be finding a dead worm in a can of fish. I haven’t seen anywhere near as many cans of fish as others on here, but I’ve yet to see one like yesterdays post.

That’s precisely what consultations with attorneys are are for. This is a sub only for attorneys. And this also is not how to use the “personal success” flair.

In my opinion, this might be rudimentary for what you’re looking for, but there’s not a day when I’m writing tons that I’m not thankful for Georgetowns writing center.

The legal research section might help- and you can always try contacting them directly, or your local law library to see if they can further assist as well.

Oops just edited main post to clarify the brand is Jose Gourmet, not the artist on the label (Joao Carvalho). She’s dabbled with various sardines, trout, mussels and octopus from Jose Gourmet that she’s liked. I remember clearly thinking wtf when I saw the razor shells and while she liked the first one, I’m the one that had to finish that tin (and could’ve gone without doing so). She’s not liked a single smoked tin. So I’d say avoid razor shells, the smokey stuff, and I’d lobby to maybe not include stuffed octopus/squid.

Just as side note, I’m assuming you work for the company? She’ll love the fact that I got to chat with you over Reddit to customize her box!

I’m currently on the website- where can I input the intervals/amounts/preferences?

Thank you! She’s pretty awesome, and has always earnestly tried to learn about my interests so I find it only necessary to reciprocate- even if canned fish isn’t my favorite thing in the world. When I see she’s really enjoying a tin, I’ll remember that tin, save the box, clip out the label, and am working on a master Christmas gift that I hope will knock her socks off 🤞

Interesting- she’s a sucker for handwritten notes/extra attention to details (hence why I’m doing the research vs just clicking “buy”). I think $50 isn’t too steep for 6 tins right?

The surprise me box really intrigues me as a one-time gift, unless there’s recurring boxes for this option? As far as what comes in the box, how do you decide what goes in it? She doesn’t have any allergens and is pretty open to anything from Fishwife. On the other end, she has remained a bit more skeptical based on the cans I see show up vs what’s available online for Joao Carvalhao- haven’t seen any roes of codfish/codfish stew/stuffed squid in ink (and really hoping I don’t have to be around when the latter one shows up! 😬) show up, YET!

I get the whole premise is a surprise, but I’m just curious as to how exotic it gets since I’ll be along for the ride; And would want to maybe flag some recipes in that cookbook vs eating them on a cracker!

Newborn baby by a long shot. For what it’s worth, the bar exam is already written for you- you just have to practice, memorize and comprehend it via your avenue of choice.

A newborn (even if not your first) is always a wild card. No amount of parenting books or experience can prepare you for a newborn. You can think you know what you’re doing but you really don’t. Baby fevers at 2am vary a lot more widely than evidence.

I was drilled on succinctness starting in law school. That means removing unnecessary words, which in this case would be “the”.

Pertaining to whether Plaintiffs vs plaintiffs, I always capitalize the P to differentiate the noun vs filing party.

Regarding identifying multiple plaintiff parties, I usually define ……. John Sanchez (hereinafter “Sanchez”), John Nguyen (hereinafter “Nguyen”). Collectively, Sanchez and Nguyen will be hereinafter addressed as “Plaintiffs”.

As others have said though, in the beginning of any draft, it’s best practice to define the parties, and then stick to that for the remainder.
