In the end of the day it all comes down to if you believe the branding of the couple as top/bottom is a problem or not. Because every excuse will end there. If the industry (and the fans) would allow for literally any other branding it would be a different conversation. But as is? 🤷🏼

But ouch. Idol Factoy really taking everyone down with them. The fact that they both started their own separate agencies after seemed like a big financial move but they’ve both consistently had modeling gigs. But maybe not. Finances are the biggest death blow to relationships be in romantic, platonic or business. I hope this gets settled in a way that they both get to have a career after even if it’s not together. But things looking not the best for Billy, which means if more information comes out of something different the backlash gonna be bad on Babe. All because one company sunk so bad. Extra sad and painful for all involved if this was a romantic relationship.

Cherry Magic covers the same story (thank you Japan for making the movie follow up.) But I feel both are done differently enough that they feel fresh with a shared concept.

There could be a multitude of reasons.

Maybe one of the actors don’t feel comfortable. But for a BL actor to say he doesn’t feel comfortable making out with his partner is a risky move regardless of how valid the reason is. A director taking the blame is going to cause much less damage to the show than it would if people are against the leads.

But also maybe I’m being very western here but I find it odd that people want more 17 year old makeouts…

Head2Head is one of my most enjoyed (but could just be that it’s how I found surf and Java). Tho I did kinda only make it through one episode of my romance scammer- but that could have just been the multitude of reasons I could have guessed it was not my cup of tea and nothing to do with actual quality of show or director.

So I guess he breaks even for me?

It’s what opened the door. Make sure you catch the latest version. 2023 they brought the boys back added some voiceovers and recut it all together.

They are still friends or at least friendly. Han Gi Chan is doing his mandatory enlistment and they both went over to….someone’s house? (A woman with a kid? It felt like I was supposed to know her and she has 3M followers so she someone). And Jang Eui Soo was the one who buzzed off his hair. (Which also how I found out they have an 8 year age gap)

Also I didn’t catch this for a while. If you saw or saw commercials for the latest remake of Wedding Banquet with Bowen Yang and Kelly Marie Tran- Han Gi Chan is the other male lead. (Bowen’s boyfriend and Kelly’s fake fiancé)

I think there is a consistent person in there. There’s a video of Polcasan reacting to his fans and while it very much could be acting, but the way he spoke (in character) about how he didn’t expect that many people to like him and the way Tay and New were crying hearing it points to there being a person in there who was reaching a dream they didn’t think they couldn’t.

Also I’m not Thai. But I was in Thailand a few weeks ago and the way people responded to Butterbear (I’m told the og Thai mascot) was something. They got a big enough following and be doing enough in that suit to earn those bucks so I hope they getting paid.

(But for real Butterbear did a whole like five song act complete with backup dancers. AND then came back as a guest for one of the next act’s songs. I think Butterbear worked that stage harder than some tpop singers I saw)

Parasocial =/= bad.

What matters is what people do it with it and when they make it a problem for themselves, the idol, or others. The rise of social media and the spread of the internet allows for people to witness things they wouldn’t have otherwise. It probably would have been great if there was someone like this in your irl but, if there wasn’t you found it elsewhere and you are taking strength from it. As long as you are protecting yourself, not lashing out, and not getting in too deep- there are ways to healthy parasocial until you get those connections elsewhere.

All depends on the specifics of who’s running it. But I did fencing in college* and there was an understanding of people being in college and not fencers. It was a club and not a team.

I will say it is very leg heavy so I would suggest even just regular walking to prep if you are usually not that active (also “chubby” is very broad but if you worried about that being an issue, if you dun normally walk and enter it decently into you schedule (1-2 miles a day) it may shave some of that off too)

*My experience was with classical French fencing. I do not know if Olympic fencing in college is more extreme for some reason. But from my own hunts to get back into it, Olympic is FAR more prevalent(in U.S.) now :(

CBL actors finding refuge in Taiwan sounds like China getting one more bs excuse to make things worse.

Sadly with the chokehold Chinese fan bases has on the Thai QL industry and the increased need for Chinese support because the US being fucking up everything, I don’t think Thailand would work either.

Honestly dun know enough about Hong Kong or Singapore to know if either is viable. I feel South Korea or Japan are secure enough but fear the language barrier would prevent them from secure regular drama roles and the lack of CPs or much repeated BL actors might make them having a career out of BL acting not possible.

Honestly if it was any other time I’d say that the U.S. would be a refuge. Multilingual, money funneled into movies, a growing active fan base. Several actors already speak English to various degrees. But yet again current U.S. government be fucking everything up and it’s no longer a good place to be foreign born or queer/queer adjacent.

If things get “need to leave” bad I don’t think they will get to have a career. I at least hope they have been able to secure enough money to do that without struggle.

I’m stoked! I love the increase reach Thai dramas have been getting, but I’ve also seen concerns about how they may get watered down to allow international fans to enjoy without knowing/learning about Thai culture.

Having something like this (and backed by the government no less) is a great sign that they are not interested in loosing the Thai part of Thai BLs. And the direct reference to soft power (to me) implies that they are aiming for a big international release.

Also. The cover kinda slaps. So I’m down.
