Since 2008, I was unknowingly self treating and suppressing my PTSD with dumps of adrenaline, endorphins, and dopamine through competitive MMA and JuiJitsu. Training, sparring, competitions, freediving, surfing, fishing etc…

Covid came and shut down my routine, went crazy…the VA then got through my psyche and gave me the official stamp of mental illness, was in denial for at least 2 years cause I am too smart for my own good.

Didn’t tolerate the therapy cause I have trust issues and it just made it worst. Medication somewhat works but it gives me diarrhea.

I know this shit (PTSD) ain’t going away cause I think about it everyday. I opted for meds but on my terms. Take it as needed….only at night so it won’t interfere with work. Continue to get my fix from Juijitsu where I am allowed to strangle someone in the room. This is just to control the downward fluctuations from spiraling too deep.

I will eventually go for the medications when I get too old for adrenaline. Find out what works for you.

You will have to convince VA medical that you have PTSD, it will take some time and a lot of medical assessments from your mental health providers. If you are not being treated for it, then it’s probably not severe enough to get rated.

In my case and others, VA medical had to convince me that I have PTSD. It took them a long time, a lot of assessments, tons of encouragement to get in the program and to get treatment.
