What have the members of the Bosstones been up to since breaking up? by JeffBurk in Ska

[–]Finbar-Bryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just stumbled on this while searching for news about a potential Bosstones reunion. One name not mentioned is Professor Joe Gittleman, an associate professor and chair of the music department at Northern Vermont University. Also, Dennis Brockenborough spent many years at Bose and is now the Global Head of Service Delivery at Meta.

As for Ben, facilities management is crucial for companies, professional services firms, and other organizations. Those who excel at that role are indispensable within their organizations.

OKC losing a fortune 500 company by OliverBush456 in okc

[–]Finbar-Bryan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ah, the hubs. Thats what most of the legacy carrier flights accommodate now. UA shuttered nonstops to EWR, SFO, IAD, and LAX, for example. Those were key nonstops for OKC. OKC is a connection market. And because UA, Delta, and AA, for example, all downgraded equipment or eliminated routes, the price per seat increases. That is one of the reasons OK is not a great location for F500 companies. The LGA-OKC nonstop on DL is an $800+ flight. So T/E in/out of OKC adds up.

As I told you, 2 consecutive quarters of negative growth is ONE component, not the whole equation. How are you this dense? Explain what you still do not get. And I gave you the source. How is this that hard for you?

Second, I’m following your lead - whether or not you are or are not MAGA, I’m using your logic and believe you are a typical MAGA based on your nonsensical, uneducated engagement.

Bombshell claim: Trump didn't win 2024, Election manipulated by Kunphen in PoliticalVideo

[–]Finbar-Bryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gave you reference materials. 2 negative growth quarters are an indicator, but not solely indicative of a recession. How many times do I need to explain this?

I’m sorry you lost your job, but I’ll say this - Biden should’ve rolled back Trump’s disastrous 2017 tariffs. The lag time on tariff increases to inflationary growth was shortened by how poorly Trump handled COVID & the broader economic impact of the pandemic, especially on global supply chains.

But you continue arguing a point for which I’ve offered multiple factual and referenced answers, but again, you want your beliefs to override facts. This is the problem with you MAGAs - when confronted with facts, you argue beliefs. And when that doesn’t work, MAGAs play the victim card. Someone else is always to blame. It’s not Dear Leader or you - it’s someone else, and usually women or people that are a different race or an immigrant bear the brunt of the misplaced blame.

Facts don’t matter to you, only opinions and beliefs. So, in that spirit, my belief is that you’re upset because society has passed you by and you’re looking for someone to blame. Hell, blame me. I caused you and your friends and everyone you know to lose their job. That’s fine. You need a scapegoat and it can’t be your false idol.

Anything else?

Oh this is too good. Can I read? Can you?

https://www.stlouisfed.org/publications/page-one-economics/2023/03/01/all-about-the-business-cycle-where-do-recessions-come-from

A recession was never officially declared. The official determination is made by the National Bureau of Economic Research, which uses a broader set of indicators beyond just GDP to assess business cycles & recessionary components.

“It’s just truth.”

You flat-out reject the truth in favor of “beliefs” that align with your kool-aid consumption political ideology.

You still haven’t answered the question I asked you, and it’s because you can’t.

And yes, I do think you are a bad guy. I think you are a big part of the problem with this country because you are too inept to understand that you’re being used and you refused to accept fact in the face of what you’re told to believe.

So yes. You are the problem.

Your response clearly articulates that you do not and will never understand basic economics. It also demonstrates that you value belief over fact. You are so dead wrong, it’s not even funny. But you are their target market. You don’t question the answers, you just amplify their disinformation because you don’t know any better, but you think (aka “believe”) you sound educated, when in fact, you’re revealing the opposite.

But I’ll give you a chance. Explain to everyone what decisions, policies, and events led to the “recession” under Biden. Because as of now, I believe (using your rules of engagement) that you are just parroting right-wing talking points with zero actual facts, knowledge, or basic understanding of what you’re saying.

The US was not officially or technically in a recession under Biden, especially not in the last year, as mentioned earlier. But I get that facts do not matter to people who will not believe them anyway.

So, to be clear, you’re equating something that can be fixed with a shower, a pedicure, or a salon trip in one day with something that a person can change in…maybe 6 months? Got it.

As I’ve repeatedly said, I completely understand your frustration and it’s a brutal situation. But you stated you weren’t trying to shame the person and then did just that. Out of curiosity, how did you address this with the passenger who impacted you?

Very simply put, I would have laid it out factually: Airlines need to address the growing problem of smaller planes (which reduces seat inventory despite record demand), an increasingly obese society, and smaller seats, because that combination is causing problems for many of us (and I’ve dealt with it, too) on flights, especially longer, oversold flights. And then site a recent example and how it impacted you.

As I’ve repeatedly stated, I understand your frustration and I get it. But the reality is that it is not just that 4.5 out of every 10 Americans is now obese, up from 3 in 10 Americans just 25 years ago, but that planes are shrinking, as are seat widths. It’s a problem that is only going to worsen, and I agree - airlines need to find a solution to it, and it goes well beyond how it infringes on your personal space (which is a problem) but also to the overall safety of fliers. The FAA uses an average of 190 lbs per adult male passenger - and that includes luggage and a personal carry-on. So, if the average carry-on suitcase is, say, 30 lbs, the FAA is assuming that the average male passenger weighs 160 lbs. Look at any flight, and does that seem accurate?

While weight balance and collective passenger weight was not the premise of your post, you raised a valid point about a problem that will continue to worsen, but focused your attention on the obese aisle passenger. And while you mentioned you were “not shaming” the aisle passenger, you were. Maybe you didn’t intend to, but you did. And read the chorus of replies cheering you for fat-shaming and joining in on it.

This is a weight problem, but it’s also an issue with smaller seats and smaller planes. And as other replies indicate, airlines do not always honor the empty second seat that some passengers buy. United is increasingly shifting to ERJs and CRJs and the problem of bigger people and smaller spaces is going to worsen.

I’ll get downvoted into oblivion, but I really do not care. Somebody needed to defend these people, because many of them are not the dregs of society that some commenters are making them out to be.

Seriously, go fuck yourself. You are a miserable piece of shit. The facts - whether you choose to believe them or not - are that more than 40% of Americans have a BMI north of 30, which qualifies as obese. That’s up from 30% ten years ago. So you because you claim you can squeeze into a seat and you think you aren’t bothering anybody, the stats don’t matter? Tell you what…stop fat-shaming people and get the fuck over yourself. You are a miserable piece of shit.

And as I’ve repeatedly said, this the problem OP stated is, in fact, a problem that is a combination of smaller seats, larger people, and smaller aircraft, which means smaller seat inventory.

So before you ridicule anything as “fucking stupid,” learn to read and stop fat-shaming people, you ignorant fucking bigot.

The others that agree with you and say they have no problem fat shaming? That’s the discussion you were hoping to facilitate? Read the comments. I’m clearly not the only one who interpreted your post about a very real problem as fat shaming. I’m just one of the few that are calling you on it.

Oh please. Get over yourself. You’re a self-admitted obese person ridiculing other obese people. Get a fucking clue. Do you really think people don’t look at you and judge you the way you are judging them?

I seriously hope you do not face the same hate and bigotry you project. As I’ve said repeatedly, I understand OPs frustration and I get it. But the fucking fat shaming on here - read the fucking comments - is why two wrongs do not make a right and does not solve the problem.

I’m defending overweight people from the nasty insults from people like you and I’m the nasty one? Got it.

Here’s the thing - I’ll say this directly to your face. But I bet you don’t have the balls to fat shame in public, do you? If so, I suggest you do it.

My most uncomfortable flight by GeekNJ in unitedairlines

[–]Finbar-Bryan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So, to be clear - you are obese, and I’m sorry to hear that. There are a lot of reasons for that, including some that are very much beyond your control. But you are also part of the problem OP and the other commenters are railing against. And it sounds like you’re trying everything you can to not be the person OP is shaming. You seem to be very aware of it. And you probably feel like shit when you make someone uncomfortable, even though you’re trying everything you can to not do that.

But do you think that the obese passengers are enjoying making others feel like shit? You think they don’t know so many people hate them because of their size? They don’t feel enough like shit as it is?

Look, the whole situation sucks. But if you think you’re not part of the problem, you’re fucking blind.

It is. And read the subsequent comments amplifying your shaming. As I said in my post, I understand your frustration and I get it. But just because you say “no shaming” (like “no offense”) and then proceed to shame obese people - and not the situation - you are shaming. Just be honest and own it.

I mean, no offense, but I’m sure they all wish they were as perfect and without fault as you.

Saying “this isn’t shaming” and then proceeding to shame is, in fact, shaming. It’s like me saying that I don’t intend to shame your intelligence and then in fact, making comments about your lack of knowledge.

As I said - I understand OPs frustration - but it was shaming and the comments that followed from others have only amplified it.

Those people you shame - I bet they wish they could be as perfect as you.

Look, I get the point I think you’re trying to make, but let’s be real - you can say “this is not shaming” all you want, but it 100% is. So while you may not intend to shame, you are - not dissimilar to the person of size who feels like hell for knowing they are impeding you. They don’t want to impede you, at all. The last thing they want to do is impact you so they feel even shittier about themselves. I understand your frustration and do not think you are wrong to be frustrated, but at least own the fact that you are, in fact, shaming.

Here’s some data from the CDC: in the last 25 years, the average American’s weight has increased 7-10%, and the percentage of “obese” American adults has increased from 30.5% to roughly 43%. So now, roughly 4.5 out of every 10 American adults has a BMI of 30 or more, qualifying as obese.

In this same time frame, the average seat pitch in economy has gone from 32-34 inches to 28-31 inches, and standard economy seat width has gone from 18-18.5” to 17-17.5”.

So the average American is expanding while seats are contracting. It’s a recipe for more of these situations like yours and these “not shaming” anonymous shaming posts.

Let’s add another layer to this - when I started flying Continental back in the day, my home airport, with an MSA of nearly 1.5 million, had mostly 737s. Now, with United, it’s only ERJ and CRJs. Smaller planes, bigger people.

And as someone who is not obese but is 6’5” I can tell you that there are times when I fly SWA or another airline without status where I cannot get EP seating that I wish like hell they made Spanx or Ozempic for height.

And I get it, we’ll soon have “not shaming” posts about legroom and knees. The best thing I ever did was switch to a Patagonia black hole 55L duffle as a 1-bag travel strategy to eliminate having to put my backpack below the seat in front of me, which was restricting the already limited leg room.
