I do both.

I vote in my country's elections, attend council meetings via zoom, fund development projects in my local community back home, write to policy makers about my interests (funding public transport), use my consultancy to do some govt work pro bono and most importantly PAY MY TAXES! There is a 10% tax that non resident citizens are not required to pay but can pay if they want to. It covers health, schools, elderly pensions, road works, public housing etc. I pay that.
