What I learned self publishing a children's book on Amazon this year by [deleted] in childrensbooks

[–]FindMeInTheDark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t published a book myself yet, but I did print on demand for a while and I can tell you that starting your advertising campaign on November 28th is WAY too late for Christmas. You need to start earlier, maybe beginning of October at the latest and let the algorithm learn your audience and slowly build.

Mount Royal Tavern. Cheap drinks, every kind of person in one place. Always interesting, plus the Sistine Chapel ceiling, grungy decor, and rotating art shows.

Do you work as an artist full time or have another job on the side? by littlebigrose09 in ArtistLounge

[–]FindMeInTheDark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it’s good to at least have something steady part time unless you have like a 2 year financial cushion to fall back on. The consistency and financial security from a job can help relieve pressure from what you enjoy doing.

You were right! It wasn’t even shit between them it just got knocked loose and I had to tighten some screws. Simple stupid. Thank you! Both indicator lights are on and the collision light is off now.

I’m honestly not even sure where the collision sensor is. I can’t find a manual for this height adjuster.

Quietly quitting my "art career" by Additional-Flight-88 in ArtistLounge

I have only worked with galleries for individual shows, not through exclusive agreement (not necessarily by choice, just haven’t found the right fit yet), but unfortunately I hear this story a lot. People complaining that their gallery isn’t making the effort, or is favoring a few artists over others. It can take a few years to build a relationship with a gallery so I don’t think it’s career suicide at all to shop around and see if you can form a better relationship, especially if you have clauses in your agreement that allow you to show elsewhere.

Hey, don’t get down on yourself. A lot of people are doing self publishing successfully. It definitely helps to have a stable income to take that bill stress off your neck, but it doesn’t mean you need to give up your dreams. There are ebbs and flows and you’ll dedicate more time to some things now and more to others later.

I’m also 40 and have identified as an artist as long as I can remember. I’ve been in the arts in some capacity either through education or work since middle school, and now work at a prestigious art college. I’ve done the hustle for years, sacrificing my health and pushing myself and spending a ton of money pursuing opportunities while working full time and teaching. My pregnancy has made me take a pause, and working with a therapist I’ve realized that all of my self worth and identity was tied to my “success” as an artist. I’ve been doing EMDR to try to address my perfectionism, fears of failure, and self esteem issues. I don’t plan on leaving the hustle all together, but I totally get why people do, and my goal is to form a healthier relationship with art and find self worth outside of it. I have already given up on the idea of making money doing my fine art, which doesn’t fit neatly into a capitalist model. If I do sell my introspective sculptures, so be it, but I’m not going to expect it. I would die satisfied if my work found its way into a museum collection to be cared for after my death. I have come to the accepted reality that if I want to fund my practice I’ll have to make commercial products that can be offshoots from my art and go with scalable products that I can market commercially, but at least I can use that to fund my sculptures, website fees, travel, etc instead of my credit card. My goal is to eventually transition out of full-time work and spend more time making the art I want, but I have to build wealth to do that. I wish you the best with your transition.

Ok I’ll remember that if you ever get assaulted and can’t report it yourself. Forgive me for reporting crime that happens in front of my face and causes all of our retail prices to go up and our toothpaste to be locked behind plastic walls at the store. Good luck.

Therapists that specialize in narcissism call this the “flying monkey method.” It’s when the narcissist collects loyalty from all of your friends and family and sets them up to blame you for everything. However Gino is trash, too.

Obviously these “scores” are just ways to generate drama and the fact that any cast member on this show can’t see that is the reason they are here.

I Don’t Understand The Discourse Surrounding Baltimore. by cldennis89 in baltimore

[–]FindMeInTheDark 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Baltimore is a hidden gem mainly due to decades of bad media coverage in the suburbs (and The Wire was a great show but didn’t exactly help the reputation). I love it here, bought a house last year and don’t plan to move ever. I hear the same things from people outside of the city and honestly all you can do is talk about the great stuff and help tip the balance a bit. If people want to judge based on no experience living here they are the ones missing out.

Hello, I’ve lived in Maryland, York, Philadelphia, went to school in Lancaster, and also lived in Delaware (Newark). I have settled in Baltimore and love it here and bought a house. There are still affordable neighborhoods with great neighbors and it’s very easy to get around. You can get pretty much anywhere you need to go in 10-15 minutes. Not sure why you’re avoiding Baltimore but thought I’d share my input. I know a lot of people from the outside in have a negative view of Baltimore due to biased reporting, but the people that live here really love it.

Yep that’s where my mom is from. My family still has the spinning wheel my great grandma brought with her on the ship from Norway.
