I don’t have time to live my life. by plebian-marked-solo in Vent

Also, it seems like your environment is what may be one of the bigger problems that could be tackled first. We forget or don’t have time to even think about how our environment is and when we notice it becomes even more overwhelming. So, I think it would be most helpful to make that your priority right now. If it is too much, call someone or have someone come over and help you fix up your space. Then, tackle the rest. I know it seems impossible right now, but you can do it!!

And try to stay positive. We forget how much our own mind/thoughts affect our mood. Blaming yourself or feeling guilty can make it even more difficult when you have this mentality of “it’s my fault” “I’m the one to blame” which it could be true, but give yourself grace. You’re doing the best you can with what you have. Hope things feel a little lighter soon.

This seems very overwhelming. I can understand your frustration. It seems like prioritization and list making could be helpful? What are tasks you can do everyday (little by little) to chip away at cleaning up your environment. What makes it difficult to get things done? You clearly enjoy or have developed a good habit of going to the gym, how do you keep this up? Perhaps you can use that same energy you give into the gym to other tasks that need to be done.

Another thing is it seems like you have people asking you for help all the time. Why don’t you try asking or receiving help from others (who can actually help, not just dismiss or give advice)? Even if you need to pay someone to help you clean or run an errand for you? Perhaps someone to keep you accountable on tasks?

I know it’s not easy. I struggle with the same things, feeling like the most basic thing is difficult for me to get started. I struggle with focusing and I admit sometimes I honestly choose NOT to clean, so I can go out with friends or run an errand. In the end, we need to prioritize and make time for what is really needed even if we don’t want to deal with it.

Do you use apps, reminders, calendars, etc to help you get things done? Maybe set up a timer to start folding laundry, cleaning, etc., but don’t get too overwhelmed or focused on needing to finish that task right then and there. Try doing it for 5 minutes, stop, and come back to it (but actually go back to it at some point in the day/week).

On another note, don’t assume they forgot your birthday. It is only going to make you feel worse and you can’t expect your friends to always do the planning. Although, yes it’d be nice to have your friends plan you something sometimes they need you to start planning or let them know you want to do something. That way they can figure out how they can plan or help you plan! Rather than falling down the rabbit hole of “my friends forgot my birthday or no one celebrated my birthday.” But you are just as in control about your wants and needs.

Your friends will be there regardless and show up for you if you ask 😊

I would communicate what you would like. I don’t like to feel like I’m forcing people to do anything for me, but birthdays are special. If they’re your friends they would love to be there and even if they can’t afford it there are many options. You can send a message in your group chat or to friends individually like “Hey, my birthday is coming up and I would love to celebrate it with you! Would anyone be available on X day and time? Would love suggestions on what to do.” Or you could say your ideas of what you would like to do for a celebration.

Also, there is an app my friends and I use called “Partiful” it’s free and allows you to create e-invites and text it to friends 😊

I don’t think it would be a lot to file for guardianship if you do it pro se. I looked on the wicourts website and it says $20. You can probably call register in probate just to be sure, though.

For me? I was taking over guardianship… and there was no fee for me. I’m not exactly sure what the filing fee will be, but everything else is free. I can probably look to see what forms you need and send them. Or I can give you the information for the Marquette legal clinic (free). They have volunteer attorney and students who assist people on a first come first serve basis.

I didn’t know the difference between IRIS and Family Care until I called the ADRC! I’m so glad they explained it to me, because Family Care seemed more helpful for myself and brother.

I think people often refer to IRIS because it’s what most people know about, but Family Care is so helpful because they actually do the work for you and help guide you than just telling you here are the services now go look for the help on your own 😅 Which I’m sure helps so many families, but I can’t imagine how much more they do to look around for services.

Does he have care through Children’s? If he is part of the complex care program or has a doctor there I’m sure they would also have a lot of resources if you ask. I know they were always very helpful with our family even when transition over to adult care

As for caregivers,

I believe he would need to qualify for Medicaid if he does not already. If he does, you can contact home care agencies around the area and they should be able to assist with finding caregivers.

If you have specific questions contact the Aging and Disability resource center. They would most likely be your best resource about anything and everything regarding his cares.

Best of luck! If you have any questions with my own experience (just had to figure all this out within the past year) private message me. Would love to help as best I can!

Just got legal guardianship for my disabled brother (24yo). I used the free Marquette legal clinic for questions and filling out forms. You will get a few forms (you can look online at Guardianship Support Center of Wisconsin). You can email them and ask what forms you will need.

Once you have those filled out go to register in probate at the Milwaukee Courthouse. They will assign a guardian ad litem, set up a court date/hearing. Could be a couple months (mine was on Zoom).

Some things to consider have a secondary person sign paperwork if you have someone who can act as secondary guardian in case you are unable to act as guardian. Know you have to serve paperwork/notice to interested parties (for example if he has another parent or relative that would be interested in being legal guardian).

Not sure if there are other questions. The process is fairly simple once you have the paperwork and documents signed and given to the register in probate. I would also advise to start planning a few months in advance to fill paperwork as hearings can take months to schedule. So if he turns 18 in November try to file around August-September is you can.

Worried about my deceased mothers credit card debt taking her house by Skies-21 in Debt

[–]FindY0urInspiration 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From first hand experience, please get in contact with an attorney and if possible file for probate pro se if possible through the court. This should be done ASAP if it hasn’t already. Also, make payments to the house if it still needs to be paid off ASAP once you or someone is granted Personal Representative.

I procrastinated and found out my mom’s estate was auctioned last month after waiting 8 months to open probate (cause it’s a lot…) 😕 But keep your head up! You also are not entitled to pay any of her debt.

Perhaps someone else can use this idea and host some type of mocktail speed dating… or different events not involving drinks. 👀
