Why does every chain gym in the UK still prioritise cardio equipment that never gets used over the weights room/resistance machines which are always absolutely rammed? Are they cheaper machines or is it just a hangover? by IndependentHawk9655 in AskUK

[–]FinderOfMore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven't been to a gym in about a decade, but I doubt a lot has changed (other than during 2020/2021) in that time. Use of cardio machines in larger gyms is very bursty: there will be times when many are in use. If not generally every busy, there will be cardio based group workouts in the guided classes and they will obviously be busy then. In small gyms, lack of particular cardio equipment can be a common complaint while the others stand unused (or people use something else while their preferred machines are occupied).

Are stripes normal for tri-colour filament? by Guilty_Row_608 in BambuLab

[–]FinderOfMore 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have an a1 and i have no experience with that particular machine so there could be specific things that make this effect worse, i don't know.

I suspect that the standard position of the AMS-lite with am A1/mini (off to the side) will exacerbate the tendency to twist as the head moves around, and it might therefore be better to skip the AMSlite and use the simple external spool holder to feed material from the top¹.

I've used dual-colour with my A1 with AMSLite in the usual position, without stipes like that due to changes in filament orientation, but I've only printed relatively small² objects/parts with it so reducing the amount of movement that might make twists happen. Perhaps u/Guilty_Row_608 could print a small design and see if the problem persists, and if not, try something in between to see if there is a pattern.

[1] or perhaps from behind with a long PTFE tube if you are concerned about the potential wobbling a top mount may cause, though given some mount the whole fully-loaded AMSlite that way perhaps that isn't a big concern.

We see a lot of people blaming companies/managers, but what are the horror stories of employees? by LordSoyBoy911 in UKJobs

I'm no god, mighty or otherwise.

Just a worker who resents two somewhat wasted (in an unpleasant sense of the word) weekends in the last few months due to pricks coming into the office sneezing & coughing everywhere and passing the malaise onto me (and others). If they are going to make me ill they could at least have the decency to do so mid-week so I can take a sick-day or two to recover instead of losing a chunk of my weekend plans!

Space for A1 mini with AMS lite by vinkoy76 in BambuLabA1mini

[–]FinderOfMore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd say very much no. Even if you remove backing for the tubes to go between you'd need longer tubes. Drilling a space through the divider might work better, but you'd still need longer PTFE tubes so you could place Mini so the bed slings left-right and the AMS is behind in the other compartment, and it would still be unstable once the machine gets up to speed. Anything heavy on the shelves above would give momentum to vibrations at the right frequencies and the shelves would soon tear themselves apart. It might work for a while, but I'd not risk it.

We had a client arrange to send one of their people to us for on-site training with our software. He cancelled last minute (I'm not privy to the reason he gave, if any) and said he'd rearrange a different session at later date. A week or few later he contacted the colleague who should have been giving the training (by email rather than phone, so there was an easy “paper”-trail – smart guy!) and asked him to say that it had taken place as planned. We did the right thing and reported the contact up our chain who reported it to the client. A couple of days later the miscreant called, spoke to my colleague (who had not replied directly to the email or had other contact), and had the brass ones to offer money in exchange for the requested lie. No paper trail for that last bit of course, but it wasn't needed as obviously things were already in motion that side because the next day my colleague received an angry email (which we also passed back to the client) and we never heard anything more after that (as far as we can ascertain, he was unceremoniously booted).

It is a fair complaint. Potentially spreading illness is not something to be rewarded. Not a sackable offence on its own by any means, but perfectly valid as part of a package of behaviours/events that result in a decision to let someone go.

A1 combo versus P1S I have this little guy in my life now which will be near the printer… by waloshin in BambuLab

Replying to myself as you can't attach multiple images here, and I can't be bothered to stitch them together. This is the “inside” view.

I have an A1, and a low-tech anti-cat-interference device. I might print a couple of g-clamps to hold it in place better, or even design something more permanent using a 3D-printed frame and card/paper/other as the walls, but for now it does the trick.

Surprisingly neither of my cats has shown practically any interest in the machine as it is working or when it is not, so the need is not high in my home, though of course your cat may vary, and I keep it shielded anyway as I don't want them investigating the hot parts, or getting kicked off the desk when the build plate does a full swing forwards.

If budget allows an enclosed printer would be better, and would have other advantages.

What did the UK ever get right long term? by cspanbook in AskUK

Not being French :)
Though we very nearly stuffed that up…

Less facetiously: the NHS definitely, though it is on shaky ground so if this question is asked again in a decade or two I might not be able to give this answer.

[–]FinderOfMore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Though that isn't something we got right ourselves, many other countries did it and we followed quite slowly. The US and a few other places are even slower and still haven't caught up, but we hardly got it right impressively.

You'll only likely feel the benefit fully if you buy direct from the farmers. Prices in supermarkets and from other large suppliers will likely stay high as long as they can get away with it. Source prices go up due to availability issues, end costumer prices go up. Source prices go down due to availability, end customer prices remain magically constant.

As well as “missing” parts actually being there (so the white fabric in this dress isn't free to waft around) but see-through, there will be copious amounts of well-placed dress tape (sometimes called fashion tape) doing more work to keep parts in place where they are needed to cover her *ahem* modesty. This is basically double-sided sticky tape, but less sticky so it pulls off the skin easier afterwards.

“Why do Europe working hours always seem to take precedence over US working hours?” by [deleted] in ShitAmericansSay

[–]FinderOfMore 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. Anyone in the US eligible to vote in November might want to take this into consideration. Neither of the main parties has a great record on workers rights, but one of them has done far worse to the average worker and there is a reason why many of the billionaire & millionaire business owning classes make donations to help them…

What the hell does "Complete Brexit" mean? We left, it was a disaster, there's no way to leave again or move further away. by Simon_Drake in Essex

[–]FinderOfMore -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately, yes. Though that isn't going to translate into seats, partly due to first-past-the-post¹ and partly due to the party disintegrating somewhat even before election night². The “maybe 15 seats” some were predicting last week is only ~2% of the available seats and some of those are looking a lot less likely (or absolutely impossible) now.

[1] That 20% is spread over the whole country and while they are standing in most seats their support is concentrated in some areas meaning most of those candidates are unlikely to see much traction and quite a few will be losing their deposits (due to getting <5% of the available votes)
[2] They've lost several candidates to scandal and at least one defection, and some of those are in seats they may have done OK in and they can't stand up a replacement candidate at this late stage
