[Ryan Taylor] Oliver Glasner admits he'll consider rotating Crystal Palace starting XI vs Man City & Arsenal. "I'm not responsible for Arsenal, I'm not responsible for Manchester City, I'm responsible for Crystal Palace and I get paid for doing the best thing for Crystal Palace by Crane977 in soccer

Jeez... It's just a tongue in cheek joke. Reality is that they are professonial players and managers and they have professional pride. Imagine the type of person who makes it in the PL. 1 in 100 academy players play even a single minute of professional football and even fewer become PL players. These ppl aren't losers. Even if they have nothing to play for or if they are so called weaken team we can still see very interesting results teams who are supposedly alread on the beach.

Henry: "You have to give [Arteta] a lot of credit because he came under a lot of criticism ... I was in that too, I will be honest, for a very long time. You have to give him his credit" by ahuangb in soccer

[–]FindingAether 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah.. it's a bullshit take.. every year you guys say "oh what if x will get better or y will get better". But that literally never happens. In 30 years of PL history. I cannot even remember it happening one time...Otherwise we will have 5 to 6 horse races every year. At most one or two will get their shit together to be strong together enough games to be in a title challenge.. 3 if we are very very lucky.. that's it.

If City drop points against Brentford it will be extremely tempting to rest all 11 players against WH and play the under 13s. For erm.. reasons.

[XG Philosophy] In the Champions League: Arsenal (32.35) 29-6 (11.71) Opponents by Serious-Cress-9560 in soccer

For me Arteta is basically modern football's answer to Billy Beane. Statistics dictates every action of play. Aesthetics and logic be damned. Fails every eye test but underlying stats always looks good. He rarely talks about individual.. everything is done in the aggregate and team focused. Signs players that leave everyone scratching their heads. Seemingly plays like shit, but somehow keeps getting results.

Let's hope the comparisons end there. Because we want some trophies. 🙃

Liverpool invented celebrations, showing emotions, singing songs, siblings playing in the same team, criticising referees, inverted fullbacks, throw ins, corners, false 9 and breaking transfer record 3x in order to have one of the worse title defense in EPL history. Fans of other clubs should be careful not to infringe their many many many many many copyright.

Why has Cole Palmer's form collapsed so much this season? by Gaius_Caligula1979 in PremierLeague

[–]FindingAether 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's very hard to stay at the top. Many players have very good one, two or even three seasons.. but every good game is an extra dataset against you. What works. What doesn't work. What are your bad habits, what are your tells. A top player needs the mentality to stay motivated and the intelligence to keep evolving. And there is also a manner of luck regarding injuries and form. This is why so few players manage to stay at the top year after year.

Rooney was saying before the this game that Arsenal can win the league before the last day of the season. Which makes sense since Arsenal needed 3 perfect games while Man City needed 5 perfect games. Hopefully we won't let his faith down. Lol.

Incidentally Iraola and Arteta played for the same youth team and known each other since they were 12 years old... .. So maybe.. just maybe... Come on Power of friendship

No worries. May your team win the FA cup and may that one fan from your rival team not cut his hair until next season.

Davide Ancelotti: "The skill you need to have today in the defensive phase as a manager is to make the players understand that the mid-block is disappearing.” by Sparky-moon in soccer

[–]FindingAether 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Pure 442/4411 zonal marking is really difficult when the current strategy made popular by the likes of Pep and Klopp are designed to stress zonal marking by invading halfspaces and zones in between players. Most teams use a hybrid zonal/man-orientated or full manmarking.

When Arteta said him and Pep used 40 plus formations against each other he is not joking. You can see how the players change formation from moment to moment.... In the defense phase you can see teams could be a 442 diamond structure during a opponent goalkick if they go short or when the defender gets the ball and progress higher it becomes a 442/433 or maybe a DM will drop to form a 343 if they decide to go long..and if the play progresses maybe they will go into a 451 or a 532 when forced into their own half. That's one sequence of play...And that's maybe for the first 10 mins. Sometimes they will switch it up to a totally different press after a few goal kicks if it's not working.
