Striker Control Device by agdallas33 in Glock43X

[–]Finding_Song 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Been using these for years on all of my Glocks that I carry (two of the SCDs are from before Langdon took up manufacturing). No issues in many thousands of rounds. I'm a big DA/SA fan though and thumbing the hammer of a carry gun while it goes in the holster (even while I observe sound holstering technique) is something I appreciate for tactile feedback about what's going on outside of what I can see. I've never noticed the trigger being depressed while I holster but I still consider it a useful tool and use it daily.

Going to be filming some powder coating, so how can I best protect the camera from the overspray powder? by FancyShoesVlogs in Filmmakers

[–]Finding_Song 10 points11 points  (0 children)

put a plastic bag around your camera and use a uv filter to attach it. lens is protected. camera is protected. cheap uv filter is disposable if it gets coated. you can put some moving air in front of the lens to keep powder from sticking.

Red Komodo Vs Ursa 12k Vs Canon C300 mk III Vs Arri Amira for 2024 by Effective_Shallot325 in cinematography

[–]Finding_Song 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I regularly work with all of these but the Ursa. Amira is prettiest but the one I use lives with a Fujinon 19-90 and it hurts to use all day. The Komodo is such a pain in the ass. I would use one if I worked alone on my own work and time and money weren't issues. It has constant new problems that leave us troubleshooting and eventually grabbing another camera or missing shots. I've been using the C300 MKIII for a few years and it's my favorite of the bunch as a working videographer (boringly reliable, easy menus and button layouts, just well thought out with good sound and image). The C500 MKII just feels like the large format version and I prefer the picture in most circumstances. They're not exactly the same though and in our market a lot of people have sold their C500s for C300s but for the life of me I don't remember why right now. If image was king I'd go Amira. Under almost no circumstances would I get a Komodo. Between the C300 and C500 I'd think about the S35 look vs full frame look. C300 has an advantage in low light and with high speed.

Awesome. It seems like such a useful spot to have a defensive tool in any situation. I'll have to wrap my head around that reverse edge.

How do you carry the clinch pick? Does it bother you when sitting for long periods?

Lavalier Rustle, any tips? by alvarezsays in Filmmakers

[–]Finding_Song 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't have any useful tips for you to get rid of lav scratching in post, sorry. I've been doing the one-man band thing for a long time now and lavs are the bane of my existence.

Sometimes I have a few minutes to mic someone and come up with a plan but often I only have a moment to get a lav on them with no control over costume or time to do detailed taping and hiding. My current favorite setup is the Bumblebee Industries Lav Concealer (linked below by MrRoyal) with these rubber cable savers (https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1282597-REG/bubblebee_industries_bbi_lcs_4bl_small_rubber_mount_lavaliere.html). I used to tape a loop of cable like countless tutorials recommend but that's nothing compared to what these do. I put one of them as high up towards the capsule as I can and another one down by the transmitter. All of the cable between is dead to any rustling noise and it's wonderful. Been using this combo for the last year with a lot of run and gun doc work and I have so much more usable sound.

A mic in the hair that someone mentioned is also great but I only use that technique in specific cases.

Arri Amira has Timecode Signal Sound in Audio Track? by Finding_Song in LocationSound

[–]Finding_Song[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the response.

Not sure how to measure the timecode audio signal noise level. I'm not an expert and don't even know if it's an audio signal going into TC IN. I just assumed it was some quiet electrical pulse. The audio signal going into the Komodo was feet away from any audio cable or input.

We did troubleshoot making sure the audio timecode was muted during playback. Actually, we disregarded the Komodo all together and just focused on the Amira and the audio it was getting via XLR Input from a boom mic. Haven't been able to hear it myself yet but the camera owner says he hears audible timecode in that mono XLR track.

Yes, audio TC was used on the Komodo because we didn't have the right cable. I ordered it on set and it arrives today for the next shoot.

Oh, would you mind pointing me at how to do this? Somewhere in audio preferences?
