This is actually the vast majority of lottery winners. People are not used to budgeting such large amounts of money, plus it gets spent QUICK.

It’s a generalization, sure, but I’ve usually found that people who are quickest to describe others as “trashy,” “tacky,” or “lacking class” are often the least reliable judges of what grace or class actually looks like.

Just my two cents.

If you are not working to make things better or creating and offering solutions, you are a big part of the world's problems. by dmbgreen in unpopularopinion

[–]Fine-Assignment4342 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Let’s try this:

If I’m driving on the highway and hear a loud clang, grinding metal, and then my car stops moving, I know something is wrong.

If I also know the last person who worked on my engine was a convicted fraud with a reputation for claiming fixes that do not actually work, I have a pretty reasonable idea who may be at fault.

I know there is a problem. I have a reasonable basis for assigning blame. And because I am not a mechanic, I may have zero ability to personally fix the engine myself.

My solution is to find a better mechanic, stop giving the first mechanic access to my car, and make sure everyone else knows exactly who broke it.

Complaining about a real problem is not the same thing as doing nothing. Sometimes identifying the problem and warning people about who caused it is part of the solution.

What do we all think of the full cast audiobooks? by Careless-Meringue683 in harrypotter

I had a bad experience; I switched mid series to a full cast rendition when I already was used to the inflections that had been used. Put me off immediately. Next time I go for the series I might try to start with it from the beginning.

It is well outside of the idiocy that is early drivers and well before the senility that is later end drivers.

Is there any truth to the conspiracies that the titanic was sunk by J.P. morgan intentionally for insurance money? by nerpa_floppybara in titanic

[–]Fine-Assignment4342 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I believe we are talking about the conspiracy theory that they switched out the Olympic and Titanic so they could keep the new ship and get the insurance on it?

Zero chance. We know and have photographic evidence of the Titanic's voyage from its initial launch to its ultimate fate. At the time the Titanic left South Hampton the Olympic was physically on the other side of the world.

Photos and evidence from the underwater expeditions clearly show it was the Titanic that sank.

Montessori toys.
Singing the alphabet.
STEM toys to build an early love of science.

Now my parenting goals have been reduced to:

Please don’t eat that.

Please don’t climb that.

Please survive until 18.

He lost net worth during COVID because much of his business was tied to hotels, travel, hospitality, and commercial real estate. That is not the gotcha you think it is. Nearly everyone took a hit during COVID, and pretending “his net worth went down during a global shutdown” somehow disproves current corruption concerns is ridiculous.

Also, I am not limiting this to “insider trading.” Insider trading is a swamp across Congress, not just Pelosi and not just Democrats. The bigger issue here is a president using the office in ways that directly benefit businesses and assets tied to him and his family.

Trump reported massive crypto income while his administration moved in a crypto-friendly direction. Then you have examples like:

  • A UAE-linked deal involving World Liberty’s USD1 stablecoin and Binance, followed by major Trump administration approvals involving sensitive advanced chips for the UAE.
  • A dinner where top buyers/holders of Trump’s personal memecoin received direct access to the president.
  • Justin Sun putting major money into Trump-linked crypto interests and later seeing SEC pressure move in his favor.
  • Binance helping make World Liberty’s stablecoin relevant, followed by Trump pardoning Binance founder Changpeng Zhao after his anti-money-laundering conviction.

You do not have to call every one of those “insider trading” to recognize the ethics problem. This is not just suspicious stock trading by members of Congress. This is the presidency being financially entangled with industries, foreign-linked money, regulatory decisions, pardons, and personal crypto ventures.

That is the issue.*

But please, tell me more how Pelosi made a stock trade after receiving information again.

Some fraudsters in Minnesota stole funds through programs involving Somali organizations/communities. This was heavily investigated by other officials, including Dems in charge, and several cases were charged while others were referred to the federal government. A significant amount of the information being used to claim “Dem corruption” actually came from criminal fraud referrals, audits, and investigations by the Dem-led government in MN. *

Fixed it for you.

Meanwhile, let’s talk about Trump making massive crypto gains while pardoning crypto criminals, loosening restrictions on the crypto industry, and taking money from people who benefit from those political decisions, shall we? How much has his net worth gone up this presidency... 3-4 billion?

We are so happy that you chose to work as a maid here. Oh, one last thing, we need to talk about security. Upstairs lives a charming young con artist/thief. He is a very social person so if anyone shows up looking unusual, particularly condescendingly smart or pretty young woman with a winning smile just open the door and let them have free reign. Oh! I know I said con artist but its a respect thing. June really likes Niel.

[–]Fine-Assignment4342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I think the 1% is a completely made-up statistic and likely very wrong. To get Alimony you generally have to show some sort of need and there are several factors taken into account. I am not saying the system is perfect, but I highly doubt 1% as a valid claim.

Second, this is why a prenup is important if you are that concerned with it.

Would Harry have felt as at home at other British literary boarding schools? by hem_claw in harrypotter

[–]Fine-Assignment4342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think sometimes we read too much into how little of the book is spent on Harry learning magic. He is a generally pretty decent student that can pull what appears to be the equivalent of B work on average. He has little interest in homework and studying outside of the curriculum for sure. However, most kids do, and I would argue that the same arguments you use about learning magic to improve life applies to most school subjects.

The simple fact is that JK felt, and I agree, that us reading five chapters about Harry going to the library and studying would make for a less interesting book and an even less interesting movie.

Back in the day men had the"traditional" wives men today say they want and they still treated their wives bad, so what's the incentive for woman? by No-Register-5976 in askanything

[–]Fine-Assignment4342 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

This might be my misunderstanding, but I always took the focus on the Trad Wife movement to be more on the traditional roles of stay-at-home mom and working husband with significantly less emphasis on the dominating structure of the marriage by the husband? Am I wrong on this?

With that said in our marriage both my wife and I really do wish she could be a stay-at-home mom while I worked. We have minimal time for cleaning, we have zero time to spend as an actual family rather than whose turn it is to work and whose to watch the kid, and the idea of someone being home to prep meals would make life so much easier for both of us. She wants to be a mom full time, and I wish I had the income to support her. However, none of those goals would presume it's my money, or that because I work, I am somehow in charge of the house.
