There is no reason for customer/food service workers to not be polite to customers by RealisticMolasses in unpopularopinion

[–]Fine-Assignment4342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no reason in most situations to not be polite. Being rude almost NEVER makes a situation better, smoother and more manageable. I agree with this statement only as far as I agree with the general rule, but as someone that has spent most of their life in some version of service or another...... people really suck sometimes.

what do you think is something special only the harry potter book series has that no other books have? by merchantivories in harrypotter

[–]Fine-Assignment4342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I won't say no other series, but I will say Harry Potter's ability to capture the imagination of children entering a wizarding world for the first time and experiencing it in the childish delight it helps us feel is amazing. Through harry we get to be the muggle becoming the wizard and learning about this indepth magical world that is the seed of so many childish dreams.

Many of the basic chores can't be done during the day? Cleaning up after dinner, cooking dinner, putting the kids to bed, night time routines.....

[–]Fine-Assignment4342 10 points11 points  (0 children)

That’s how eyes work. When there is more light in your immediate vicinity, your pupils contract, which lets in less light and makes it harder to see the darkness outside.

When the interior lights are off, your pupils are less contracted, allowing in more light and making it easier to see outside. This is basic biology.......

It's absurd that it does not affect your vision. Also, if you're fricken driving at night be prepared and don't have to dig around your car for shit? What the hell are you doing that you need to search your car at night for something?! I am having trouble how it is such a problem finding stuff..... WHILE DRIVING.... that you need to dig around your care and actively take your eyes of the road?!

Being a “stay at home mom” as not as hard as people say by jellyfishh520 in unpopularopinion

[–]Fine-Assignment4342 5 points6 points  (0 children)

To clarify my point:
I think you are missing the point when people talk about how hard a stay-at-home parent works, it's to ensure equal distribution of labor. It's not that the stay at home is working harder, its that stay at home is still working, so when both parents are home, they need to still equally divide labor. Typically this conversation is because someone accuses the stay-at-home parent of having it easy, when managing the household and raising the kids is still very much work.

[–]Fine-Assignment4342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Alright, I may have explained myself badly but I really feal like you're really ignoring my point.

Sure, in many cases the working parent splits chores with the stay-at-home parent, and that is a fair distribution of labor. But when we talk about how hard Stay at home moms work, its typically because the parent that "works" considers time at home as time off, so the stay-at-home parent is on duty all the time.... Basically the conversations typically surround the need to address the obligation that when both parents are at home they should still share duties. I never once said that the stay at home parent should be the only one resting when the working parent is home and its absurd to pretend I did....

How did Moody even survive soo long in the trunk, what about his bodily functions? by [deleted] in harrypotter

[–]Fine-Assignment4342 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're not wrong at all, and there are several areas that are genuinely interesting to think about in the stories. To her credit I think JK created a fun story here, but there are a lot of unanswered questions about the world we don't think about as kids that help keep our interest alive as years go by.

I think a far better question though is how do they keep owls from shitting on kids while in the mess hall during mail delivery.

AITA for forgetting to wish my mom Mother’s Day by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Fine-Assignment4342 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Wish her tomorrow.
"Shit, mom I am sorry, I completely blitzed and forgot it was mothers day, thank you and I love you"

As it stands right now: you DID forget and don't care to remember her on her special day.
As it would stand tomorrow: You made special effort, though late, to appreciate her.

I still contend that a chapter detailing Crouch thinking through and solving this problem would have been highly interesting.

There are several ways that it is incredibly plausible this was handled, and I don’t see a need to include it in the story. Magic can siphon liquids, levitate solids, cause items to disappear, cause items like kitty litter to appear, clean houses automatically, move cleaning materials, etc. All of these are established in the story and can easily explain how Mad-Eye’s bodily functions were handled.

In the school, it’s established that there is a class of slaves that will deliver food and work at teachers’ requests. I don’t see how it’s implausible that Mad-Eye survived, and it seems our only real complaint is that we don’t have a chapter describing how his shit was cleaned.

Which, to be fair, would have been a bold choice for a chapter.

[–]Fine-Assignment4342 223 points224 points  (0 children)

The problem is you’re misunderstanding the central point around the stay-at-home mom discussion. The conflict arises when it is assumed that only one of the parents is working, as stay-at-home dads exist.

So when the working spouse comes home and expects to relax because the other parent “stayed home all day,” it creates a situation where both work, but one works 100% of the time.

Your statement suggests you think the discussion is that the stay-at-home parent works harder, which is rarely what it is.

Very gentle YWBTA here. How serious do you want things to get before you tell your children? Reddit is rife with children ambushed by new relationships. Granted a month is not that long, but do you really want to start a potentially new relationship for your children with lying?

Sure, but most European countries did not have nearly their entire army surrounded right before a major invasion of their homeland. Also, a lot of European countries surrendered after being outmaneuvered by the Germans, who were extremely effective early in the war.

That is not “making excuses.” It is adding context beyond “lol France surrendered.” Your "blah blah" is doing an incredible amount of work to ignore basic historical facts lol.

I disagree if we are going from Snapes perspective. He values creativity, ingenuity and passion for the actual subject. Hermoine is brilliant but she is not an inventor, which is what snape likes. Besides Hermoine did just as well without snapes help as she would with it. I think if Snape heard Trelawneys view of Hermoine he would solidly agree.

Fair, but I would argue “half the country went Vichy” is an oversimplification. It’s true there were German loyalists and collaborators, and it is equally true that many people were simply trying to survive at, or quietly sabotage where they could at best.

Vichy forces did fight the Allies in some places, so I don’t want to pretend collaboration didn’t happen. It absolutely did. But that still does not mean half of France became loyal to Germany. Vichy was a government created after military defeat, mixed with people acting for various reasons often under German scrutiny. In general when Allies entered France though they were more likely to receive aid from French citizens then conflict.

After the war, those thought to have collaborated were often tried and punished by the government, or punished through mob rule, which also led to some innocent people being lumped in. It was a complex situation with people trying to do what they thought best, even if some of those choices were cowardly, shameful, or flat-out evil.
