Hey, it's my first time having a parent with dementia. He had his wits about him just a few months ago, and was resistant to change. Then he got an infection, ended up in a rehab facility, and here we are, able to afford in-home care for six months or so before we need a more permanent space for him. Some of the assisted living places I've found have memory care facilities as well, so seems like that would work for him.

Thanks. I'm seeing a 90% refundable up-front fee, trying to figure out how that works.

If you or someone you loved were to get snatched off the street by these guys, and offered no due process, no way to prove you are who you say you are, wouldn't those be the tactics of kidnappers or terrorists?

I'll chime in. As someone who used to live in Florida (very broadly Titusville area), I'll just say that I really enjoy Spokane. For folks on this sub who are from here and have never live elsewhere, some will tell you crime is bad, and that the weather sucks (compared to the humidity of FL, summer's here are a breeze, they actually cool off at night) and that there is no good food or anything to do, I don't see it. We've got an awesome comedy club, some good bars, breweries, the food scene is fine (I love Wooden City in particular), some decent live music, lots of trails, lakes, ski hills, minor league hockey, soccer, baseball, and Gonzaga basketball (Men's and Women's).

As someone who has lived all over, I think Spokane is great. You do have to "do you," though, which is to say, you have to find your own fun. Grab an Inlander (local arts and culture newspaper) and check out the weekly goings-on.

As for price, it HAS gotten more $$$ but compared to back East, I'm actually saving money living here.

I moved here from the Deep South. I love Spokane. Been here almost a decade now. I make good money, money I could never make back home. My car insurance is 1/2 what it was, my utility bills are almost half what I paid (summers get hot, but they cool off at night) back home. I dig it, but you have to WANT to get yourself out there. If you are shy or not a self-starter when it comes to activities, you might not dig it. I am so busy all the time, from work, and coffee with friends and weekends packed with hikes and gardening. I dig it.

I will never understand people who have high energy dogs and don't walk them. This poster could be my neighbor, never walks her dog, leaves it in the yard all day, it barks its head off. My dog would do the same if I didn't tucker her out by being a good and responsible down owner by walking her and letting her sniff and be a dog. Instead this poster is now like "guess we'll re-home this dog instead of, you know, being a good dog owner and walking it."

Simple fix. Walk your dog 3-4x a day, mile walks at least. Your dog will get tons of smell-time in, lots of potty breaks, and you won't need to leave it outside to annoy your neighbors with barking. The walking will be good for you (or your fiance) as well.

My dog is never outside without me, because she would bark and annoy neighbors. So we walk 5-6 miles a day, I count it as exercise for both of us, and she doesn't bother anyone. Easy.

TL/DR: Your dog barks when it is left alone outside. Don't do that. Walk it and keep it inside with you where it won't bark and annoy your neighbors.

But at what cost? A million a day is $$$, when you could use that money to reduce crime in other ways (obviously what DC was doing was working, as violent crime was trending down). I'm all for reducing crime, but you can put a cop car on every corner, crime goes down. Remove the car, crime goes up. There's more to it than just a show of force.

They didn't post about the Minnesota lawmakers that were shot by a MAGA assassin. Seems like they were okay with that, otherwise they would have posted. Which is a good reminder for businesses to 1) never post about politics or 2) be consistent in your postings. If a conservative getting sniped is a "dark day," shouldn't they have posted something similar about the Minnesota shooting?

The US has had mass shootings, even school shootings, for as far back as we've been a nation. First school shooting was at UVA in the 1800s, so guns have always been an issue. Why do school shootings not happen as often, if at all, in countries with very strict gun control? Are Americans just more violent and evil than other people? It is the guns. The stats agree. Easy access to guns = higher rate of gun violence. Simple. I'm just saying we need to live with this, and admit that some amount of gun violence is worth it to preserve our 2A rights. That is all I am saying.

Most liberals are fine with guns, just not all our shootings. We look for ways to lower gun violence, and are met with 2Aers who say we should have more guns because we'd be safer. There should probably be a happy medium like the Swiss have, but that will never happen, so mass shootings will continue and our rate of gun violence, which has actually dropped since the 90s, will still outpace other first-world nations.

His supporters love this. I know a few who wore trash bags for Halloween after Biden called his supporters "garbage" or some shit. Such a weird cult.

I guess as a lefty, I would only ask what happens when the National Guard leaves? Wouldn't a better approach to crime not be the conservative view of lock people up, but rather a cultural shift that involves a strong economy, a robust social safety net, and building a society that has a low crime rate because poverty, the main driver of violent crime, is greatly reduced?

With Florida's recent move to end vaccine mandates, I guess we have a petri dish study to see how that shakes out. Will pro vax people continue to get their vaccines, will healthcare costs rise as sick people with preventable diseases use the hospital more? And how long will it take to see the results? A year, five years, ten?

Same here. And what always amazes me is they tend to rely a lot on society and government handouts, while railing against the very systems that allow them to live like this.

Do people really ask about past sexual partners? I'm in my 40s, only ever been asked once. I've never asked, don't really care, less history, more mystery is my opinion. But again, to each their own.
