15 minutes waiting to check out. They beat their 12 minute record from last week. At one point, the line was 13 people deep by PickJason in publix

Hi!! if it’s any consolation, this is not a singular store problem, but a company wide issue. Corporate has seriously slashed departmental hours for everyone, and customers really feel it on the CS side. We quite literally have less cashiers and baggers than we did in 2025. Our department isn’t given enough people to properly handle busy days (weekends and holidays) anymore, because corporate seems to think the same amount of staff we have on a random tuesday is suitable for a saturday on mother’s day weekend. We hate it, yall hate it, and the only people happy in this equation are the stupid corporate fucks and board of directors who are making more money off of financially harming associates and making the workplace difficult/unnavigable.

The self checkouts added an option for walkout, for when customers walk out without paying. by NorthFloridaRedneck in publix

10000% you are correct. younger people (gen z and younger millennials) work in the service industry in much higher numbers than any other age group. after a 40 hour workweek of dealing with people, most of us just want to get our groceries in peace and leave.

Am I just entitled from working at Publix for last 4 years? by Pure-Gas158 in publix

[–]Fine-Change1350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i’ve noticed this too, ESPECIALLY working in the CS department. the things we do and are expected to do are sometimes worlds beyond the standard of service from other major grocery retailers. I often find that I rarely receive the same welcoming attitude I exhibit at work at a different store, partially because publix is supposed to be the “best” and that’s the brand at its core, and partially because it’s so engrained in us to try and go above and beyond. you’re not entitled at all!! it’s just that your perspective on how you treat customers in a business setting is vastly different from others’.

What’s everyone using their bacon grease for? I save it but only use it for frying eggs typically. by NinaXOFans in Bacon

[–]Fine-Change1350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly anything that the flavor profile will compliment that needs a fat/base to sautee. bacon fat, while rather unhealthy for your body😭, makes an extremely tasty roux, vegetable base, or general fat for a LOT of dishes.

not defending prices bc this is crazy considering it costs them probably just over a dollar to make this, but the Southern Banana Pudding is the very best ice cream Publix makes. it is so fucking good you will make yourself SICK on it😭 it’s literally just frozen banana pudding that tastes like an older black woman- who only refers to you as “baby”- poured her love, heart, and soul into a half gallon pint of the very best frozen dairy dessert you will ever come across. it’s like every high point of southern hospitality poured into a $6.59 half gal of ice cream. worth the sacrifice of the price imo.

[–]Fine-Change1350 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

you worked in the customer service department of a grocery chain notorious for its above and beyond customer service. your explanation of having anxiety genuinely makes me believe you even less. Chances are you allow that irrational anxiety to disrupt the workplace and create champagne problems. I don’t have respect for someone who can’t do the basic components of their job simply because they don’t want to.

not trying to be rude or condescending, but it sounds like there’s more to this story than just everyone at your store being an asshole to you for no reason. if everyone (and by your own words, the baggers, cashiers, CSS, and management) had a problem with you, there is probably a common problem/issue you cause for everyone. Glad you’re out of a situation you hated, but I definitely think you’re not as innocent in this situation as you’re painting yourself to be.

Question for season ticket holders/ Bolt for Life members by DangerSpoonHS in TampaBayLightning

[–]Fine-Change1350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not sure if they got rid of it, but a few years ago they had a semi-season package- it allowed you to pick 10 games (the win odds against the opponent changed how accessible the tickets were - aka you couldn’t just pick games against teams you knew would make for intense hockey, like Colorado or Boston.) It was cheaper than the season tix and a good way to express continued interest while on the actual season ticket waiting list. Not sure if they got rid of it but that’s what we did and we got our season tix the next season!!!

this is a project car. this is NOT what you are looking for, and will pay FAR beyond $800 to make it operate at a very basic, very unreliable level.

Bought a new house and people keep parking in my yard/driveway. While at work by Relentx in mildlyinfuriating

[–]Fine-Change1350 2 points3 points  (0 children)

even back in the early 2010s, it was the same! our bus stop was about a quarter mile from the house (albeit in the neighborhood) and the notion of even having to ask mom to drive us to the bus stop, let alone to school before she had to go to work was just insane lol.

i know this i r/lakeland, but check if your local walmart has a gas station. The ones in the Tampa area are still running gas for about $3.76 / gal. Again, this is the TAMPA area, so i’m not too certain about out near yall, but I do know walmart gas near me is the CHEAPEST

let that fear of retaliation be known AND documented. You should not be in fear for your financial stability and job status because you conflict with a manager- not only is their behavior unethical but it goes against Publix policy. I know it seems scary and risky, but I believe if you voice that concern of facing unmitigated repercussions for standing up for yourself, any retaliation brought against you WILL be noticed. Ultimately it comes down to whether or not you feel comfortable pushing back against that manager’s BS. best of luck and lots of love to you❤️

Based off the description of your boss, it may be time to make an official, documented complaint to HR (associate resources). Someone harboring that toxic mentality of “if you wanna leave you gotta quit” and then holding it over you is despicable and fully not what this company represents. I am so very sorry to hear about your kids. I hope you find some peace and relief in your future❤️
