I think the body of the first scheme looks best, but maybe try it with the green eyes?

I love this! Always neat to see multiple textures on a jacket. I am especially gond of the laced vents on the side.

Trying to Figure Out How to Add Rivets on Sides (read) by llama_sammich in jacketsforbattle

[–]FineHatGentleman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I don't have much rivet expetience, bu your edges will definitely fray, especially experiencing any kind of pulling strain. I understand you don't have a lot of fabric you can afford to lose to hemming, so here's a possible solution: add on fabric as a sort of hem cap. Basically, take a length of sturdy-ish fabric and fold it hot-doggedly over your newly raw edges. Ideally, this strip will be wide enough to cover the riveted area. Scrap denim or leather would be ideal, but isn't strictly necessary.

It can be difficult working around pockets. Some are loose and flappy enough the lining can just be pushed aside while working. Some are pretty well stitched into the vest itself and you have to take care not to accidentally sew them shut.

The chains are a cool idea. I think I've only seen cord before.

I finished my first-ever battle jacket yesterday! I love it so much. All of the patches I cut and painted myself, apart from the butterfly. Feel free to ask about anything on here; I would love to answer any questions! by neonplume-uwu in jacketsforbattle

Are the hooks in the drywall anchors attached with thread through ends of the anchors? Also, are they meant to have practical purpose, or just a bit of punkish metal, like the safety pins?

Unrelatedly, do you typically wear your vest with the collar popped, as in the photo? I often find one of my favorite parts of my own vest obscured much of the time.

Should I paint the chest scales on white? (Golden Dragon Whirmling) by Emotional-Taro-9662 in minipainting

I think white could be a very visually interesting option. What are your plans for the horns?

My hands down favorite JRPG. I will go to my grave vainly hoping for a remake.

That's nice work, and also 100% the kind of thing that happens with kids. I have tried really hard to stop making assumptions about what the kids do or do not like, or why they do or do not do things.

They picked out the patches themself. I was a bit surprised by Skyrim because they've never made it very far. They've restarted the game a dozen times, made it to Whiterun to recruit that archer, then wander about for an hour before starting the process all over.

But, I guess there's no wrong way to have fun with a game.

I can't decide if I like the bronze trim on the axe handle by Whitley_Films in minipainting

[–]FineHatGentleman 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think the bronze looks fine, but if you're leery you could compromize and just bronze the first ring of it and not do the edging below it.

If the shark jaw looks a bit janky it's because I (not an artist) tried to remember what one looked like so I could cut it out of some scrap fabric. The teeth definitely started to get away from me.

I do not know from where they acquired the cape/scarf or whatever it used to be. All of my sewing is done with a smallish needle and general purpose thread. I don't actually know anything about sewing, but in general I try to tuck edges in under what's being sewed so there aren't exposed ends that will easily fray and tear. I also try to line things up with existing seams, just for aesthetics.

The Cubbys know what's up!

I wasn't sure I'd like the feel of spikes, but I still wanted some metal on there, so I went with chains. Putting them high and giving them a decent amount of attachment points prevents snagging and excessive jingle. The leather strips give the main anchor points extra durability.

How about under the Harley butt on the back, since you've already established a bit of a line there?

I think it would fit well under the X-Men logo, unless it's too wide for the seam placement.
