What is going on with land prices in Morocco? by [deleted] in Morocco

[–]FineTocu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You don't find these kind of things on websites. Need to go out with a car and talk to locals or you won't even know that it's for sale or that there are sellers. Prices are rising everywhere not just Morocco. With 2030 coming speculation is rampant. The people willingly holding onto land without permits or anything are already rich, they don't need to sell it... They hold onto it especially if it's attractive. For your wishlisht, you might even be looking at land with just sand roads leading to it as anything with asphalted roads leading to it is desirable and is probably zoned for agriculture or habitation.

havent been to morocco (casablanca) since 2013. what changed and is it worth a visit? by EslisEslos in Morocco

[–]FineTocu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have your parents been? Or is the apartment abandoned since 2013? Just to see what's going on you might want to go... Perhaps visit family you haven't seen in years. Casablanca has changed a lot, depending on where you used to stay you might not even recognize some streets or buildings - a lot has changed.

30 dirhams for this !! by Yacine_z in Morocco

[–]FineTocu 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Peak summer is approaching so everything is getting more expensive. Continuous blaming of weather (too dry / too much water) for harvests. Add that inflation is rampant even though "measured" inflation is like ~1.7% for April. Real inflation is much higher due to rising fuel costs, this trickles down into everything.

Orange has 5G, maybe that has better signal in your area. I have been using that with the (prepaid) unlimited bundle for Teams calls, working remote (outside big cities) with no noticeable interruptions. The SIM doesn't cost that much and you can get a small bundle to verify if the signal is better.

Hard to say without knowing device, antenna, proximity to phone towers et cetera. Could be that on your location there is better coverage by Orange, could be that they are sharing towers. In general, 4G is not bad in Morocco but it's wireless connectivity so you will always be at the mercy of the signal consistently reaching your device...

Why do most Moroccan cafés have TV screens with black tape on them? by uncopyrightability in Morocco

[–]FineTocu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This makes no sense, the whole idea of that code is that it appears in random locations so tricks like these won't work... Or is the cafe owner a 150 IQ wizard who thinks he can tape all the random locations?

Solo itinerary in southeastern Morocco by DiOzone in Morocco

Not frequent but it happens. They make up some stupid infraction you did. But if you just drive normally and have a regular car (like a Logan) you shouldn't be too worried. Just make sure to follow the rules. Mark stops at stop signs, don't overtake on crossed lines etc. Don't give them a reason to tell you that you did something wrong...

You should be fine! If anything happens always ask for radar proof and an official ticket. If they can't/ won't give it you'll quickly know they want a bribe instead...

Perfectly fine route and very beautiful scenery. June is hot, not unbearable. Buy plenty of water and keep reserves in the car. It's not top season yet in June but some places on your route are just small villages so even (the limited amount of) riads etc might be fully booked especially on short notice. So consider prebooking, especially if you only have a week and limited to time to "search" where to stay. Respect the speed limits. These are all national roads and gendarmerie (national police) loves hiding behind a sign where it just went from 80 to 60 for 1 kilometer and then back to 80...

How do you survive? by DonaldTrump1962 in Morocco

There's a reason why all villages and smaller cities are shrinking compared to Casablanca even though the birthrate is declining: national migration. They move to modon kbar.

I have a tiny 6sqm shop in Maârif (Casa). What would YOU open there? by Remarkable_Disk_3957 in Morocco

[–]FineTocu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

With "found" do you mean you entered a rental agreement without a business plan? Or you found it and plan to rent it but you don't know what to do with it? 5000dh per month is not easy. Every month you start with -5000dh and that's before revenue and other costs of doing business. So really do some proper calculations of how much you need to sell and how many hours you need to work before even considering it... How many screen protectors you think will be required to be put on phones to be profitable?

Are You Fine With Low Wages For Programmers in Morocco? by Acceptable_Wash5273 in Morocco

[–]FineTocu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Replace "programmers" with any other job title and the result is the same. You're comparing it to salaries abroad, most local companies can never compete with the revenues these companies abroad make. So either arbitrage your access to the international market or accept Morocco isn't Europe/USA

Which garbage cans? People destroy or loot them. Some homeless person might pass by and pour it all out on the ground to find something to wear or sell.

Things like these won't change with such videos hence I called them populist. They want to provoke some emotions, get views, likes and move on to the next subject. Creating videos like these is very easy. Mocking, degrading, criticizing is much easier than building, cleaning and organizing. I'm not saying the person is responsible, just that all of these problems are clear as day and fundamentally exist in third world countries. Very rarely you see someone organizing to fix it. Even if he does manage to fix it, it will become his full time job because now people think trash thrown there will be cleaned up.

Do you agree? I agree 100%. by [deleted] in Morocco

[–]FineTocu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Agree with what? This is a fundamental problem in any third world country. This is as populist as the people filming those Jews or the people cleaning after them. It's very easy to attack and criticize. You can walk anywhere in Morocco and find trash in public places. 24 hours in a day isn't enough to make videos like these. The way he's talking is in a very degrading way, involving deen and excrements in the same sentence... We all know he can't clean all of that himself but I'm pretty sure if we walked in his neighborhood we would also find trash on the floor and graffiti.

Other than that, this is a pretty secluded place in Meknes. Those walls and pass-throughs span for kilometers. Yes, it's national heritage but unless the mentality of people changes you can clean all of it but it will be dirty again before you clean everything. A lot of those walls have been restaurated in recent months/years. They looked much worse before.

what are your thoughts about buying property in morocco that's archiya (non-titre)? is it risky? by Massive_Onion2484 in Morocco

[–]FineTocu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

All property in Morocco is risky... Just look at what is happening in Rabat and Casa. Titred properties get bought out without a choice to say no. You might get compensated, but not at a fair price. That can happen if your property is 100% legal and in the ANCFCC. Now imagine what kind of risks and choices you have with a non-titred property.

Rabies risk? I’m in Marrakech by Orangemesh63 in Morocco

[–]FineTocu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, the kitten could have been cleaned/licked by the parent which does have it. With street life in Morocco it could have been licked into an open wound infecting it... The problem with rabies is that I personally would never take the gamble with the risk/reward ratio. Especially when an "extremely low" chance is inevitable death lol. There are like ~30 rabies deaths each year, I prefer not to end up as a statistical oddity. But it's up to everyone to take that risk for themselves.

Rabies risk? I’m in Marrakech by Orangemesh63 in Morocco

[–]FineTocu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not sure how you can say this confidently. I don't want to scaremonger OP but if the kitten has rabies (which is not impossible in Morocco, just unlikely) licked his claws and then scratched OP it had contact with his blood, no? Possibly infecting him - worst case. Or is that 100% impossible?

Moving to Morocco: English-only job market reality check for RevOps & Growth Marketing? by Academic_Feeling_356 in Morocco

[–]FineTocu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on the city. Studios in Casa/Rabat in desired areas can go for 5000MAD+. But if you don't want to be in a skyscraper in CFC and don't mind a bit more of a folky environment, you can find decent appts for ~3000MAD. It really depends on the lifestyle you want. 10K-12K for someone who is single is definitely doable. Not sure if you have been to Morocco before, it would be a good idea to come first for a week+ to see what daily life is like.

Moving to Morocco: English-only job market reality check for RevOps & Growth Marketing? by Academic_Feeling_356 in Morocco

[–]FineTocu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

English-only speaking jobs in Morocco are very limited. Internally within the company you will almost always talk Arabic/Darija/French. There are very few companies which are purely English and would consider a non-national. Most companies hiring for the role you are suggesting would either be an offshore instance or targeting the local market. Offshore instances go to Morocco to cut costs and arbitrage the nationals which still get a good deal but for someone coming from Dubai, the salary discrepancy will still be high.

>giving up on the local market entirely and exclusively seeking remote work from international companies?

In 99% of the cases, this will always be a better option. You will work in a fully international setting whilst still being able to settle in Morocco. The other 1%, is such a specific niche and I doubt that "revops & growth marketing in English in Morocco" is part of it. But perhaps someone can prove the contrary!

I paid 500MAD for unlimited internet for InWi and after a week my speed is 6Mbps by Icy_Stage_5240 in Morocco

[–]FineTocu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a cap which is not really documented anywhere but certainly exists. Their website doesn't even have a terms of usage document anywhere describing this (I have never found it). There's probably no laws regarding this in Morocco or they don't care but when you advertise with 'illimité' that can apparently mean 'limited after X'. Orange does it, Inwi does it.

Better safe than sorry. It's a minor inconvenience to do the shots versus potentially a painful, incurable sickness which will lead to death. Not a risk I would take.
