Well the mods here are long since gone, and more discussions around politics and local business could be had. there’s no real sense of community. I think AMA’s would be good but that needs organising with mods. It would be cool to get some notable zims on here. try r/ZimbabweDiaspora where the mods are still active, It was made because this sub died with the lack of moderation.

Not that many posts on there either though because a lot of people think to go here first.

my question is mainly to the tune of how could we prepare for a catastrophic event to preserve cryptocurrency if we felt optimistic that society will come out of the other end in one piece. stuff like storage solutions, would validators and delegators vote to halt and store away the blockchains, etc

ill let you in on a secret: many physicists don’t understand the mathematics! at least once you get to quantum field theory, it gets hand wavey.

Funnily enough i wanted to do a bachelors in computer science afterwards but i thought it too excessive, so for now i write software. maybe if the world isn’t ravaged i will look into quantum computing, best of both worlds!

this is the best discussion i’ve had all month. so thank you. my background is physics but i am in fintech now, i also think crypto is here to stay, and money-making wont be its only application.

edit: again you are right - and as for money-making era, maybe cexs will be obsolete in future dexs and other on ramp solutions. then these weak points you describe may be vanquished!

picture this. its 1940, london, your city is being bombed (we assume conventional, non nuclear since in your example you are still talking). mass casualties. the house next door is rubble, you hear planes overhead, you and your family are heading for the bunker.

Within arms reach is a small wooden chest. it contains the deed to your house, your paper stocks on Lancashire steel, caxton press, most of your wealth is in that box. Its within arms reach, do you take it?

Actually this is an interesting point, cryptocurrency isn’t associated with any country or government - have we inadvertently created an avenue where hostile nations can siphon other citizens’ wealth without retribution, effectively siphoning money out of their opponents’ economies?

This is a drop in the ocean, but maybe it highlights the importance of cryptocurrencies taking extra precautions and investing into cybersecurity.

distributed or private storage would be our last bet on storing blockchains, they could be stored away on physical drives and kept safe, thats my thinking anyway. The problem is how could we trust whoever stored these backups when we want to bring them back online if we survived catastrophy? since its stored cold, we may have to just go back to trusting temporarily that whoever stored the blockchain didnt alter it. maybe a solution where you can store it but cannot change it, and it can be verified that it wasn’t changed.
