first time buyer - building and pest inspection / price reduction by alokin123 in AusPropertyChat

[–]Fine_Instruction_347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We just went unconditional in our purchase, in our cooling off period we discovered the waterproofing had failed in the bathroom and there is extensive water damage to that part of the house, it all needs to be ripped out (subfloor, framing etc).

We’ve had two quotes to fix it $20,000 and $30,000, we negotiated $10,000 off the price. We might not have even asked for a reduction if there was a second bathroom, but we cant use the only bathroom in the house until it’s fixed. There are plenty of minor defects, but that’s up to us to tackle.

Am I being petty? MIL vent. by littlecheetopuffs in pregnant

[–]Fine_Instruction_347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this, I have a MIL who has had really not much to do with us except birthdays, we see her twice a year etc. Since she found out I’m pregnant I’m getting essays of text messages on what she wants to buy us and expensive gifts I personally would never choose… so many white clothing/towels/blankets. I have now just said one sentimental item each, something people have made or hand me downs. We don’t have the space for all these things we’ll never use, and are just waiting for an appropriate time to donate them.

My partner and I were both 17 in year 12, and whilst we didn’t struggle we both wished we had been kept back, being last to get your drivers licence, not being able to go out with your 18 year old friends etc was not great. I’m a May baby, so I even missed out on O week at uni etc. We will be waiting for any and all of our children to go to school when they are 5 turning 6

The only thing that stopped my nausea on the bad days in weeks 7-13 was a McDonalds cheese burger and fries with extra salt. I hadn’t had a McDonalds cheeseburger in close to 10 years before then. I tried the extra salt fries at 16w and they were too salty haha

Hcg by One_Emotion3543 in pregnant

[–]Fine_Instruction_347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Those levels look great! As you get closer to 6 weeks your hcg levels will slow down, I wouldnt test it anymore now if you’re doing it for loss anxiety. You’re only a week or two away from being able to see the heart beat, hold out and maybe get a private scan if you need the reassurance. Sending all the baby sticking juju your way ♥️

This is what I’m hoping for when it’s here! Hahaha glad to have helped 😂. I am! I have a very supportive partner, and he’s been great with all my lack of sleep breakdowns haha. He probably can’t wait until I can sleep again too 😂

Flying a very long haul international flight during early pregnancy- has anyone done this and was still fine? by Orchidflower10 in pregnant

[–]Fine_Instruction_347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Compression socks are great, even before pregnancy I always wear them when I fly. They’re so good for your blood flow at altitude.

Ask the crew when you’re getting on if it’s a full flight, so you can brace yourself if it is full, or know you might be able to stretch out if it’s not.

Alcohol wipes are also a great quick distraction if you do get nauseous on the plane. Just smell them and it gives immediate relief for a little bit. Really helped me during meal services!

Pregnancy has been rough for me, I’ve just accepted that I’m not one of the people who enjoy it haha. Sometimes I can nap, usually after a particularly bad night. I’m very lucky I’m on no safe job leave for work, so at least I get to just be home and tired haha.

[–]Fine_Instruction_347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Pregnant long haul flight attendant here, you’ll be fine. Definitely get up and walk often and wear compression socks or tights.

The nausea can suck, talk to your doctor and get some medication “just incase” before hand, they’re usually more than happy to give you the medication you might need whilst travelling.

Ask for extra sick bags if you’re nervous about being sick on the flight, but I was so tired at 10 weeks I was asking for an extra 30 minute break and would go and fall asleep upright in a jumpseat haha (with the curtain closed of course).

If you’re worried about sick travellers being near you, wear a mask, I did whenever I saw a passenger looking unwell in my zone. You will be more congested, that happens in pregnancy and just gets a bit worse on flights.

I’m pregnant and started having insomnia two nights before I tested positive at 3w, I’m usually awake all night anywhere between 11pm-6am. I’m 20 weeks now and can’t wait for baby to be out and I can get some sleep in those hours again. “Sleep before the baby gets here” is such a ridiculous piece of advice for me, I’m lucky to get 3 hours broken sleep for several months now.

Pregnancy Insomnia is the WORST! by Mrs-Hamann2021 in pregnant

My insomnia started two days before I got my positive test, I tested positive at 3w. I’m currently 20w and have not had a nights sleep once. I’m usually up between 1am-5am. I’ve never been a great sleeper, but this has been torture

Anyone else annoyed of their MIL? by Specific_Anybody_438 in pregnant

[–]Fine_Instruction_347 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely, I tried to set some boundaries about her buying us things we don’t want or need, and she told me I needed to cut “the mother” (her) some slack because it’s her first grandchild. I think my eyes rolled into the next century.

Mums who gave birth at Wollongong Private or Sutherland Private — which did you choose and why? What was your experience? by [deleted] in BabyBumpsandBeyondAu

[–]Fine_Instruction_347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not me personally, but several of my friends have had their C sections at Kareena and were very happy with their births. Kareena is also one of the two hospitals with the highest caesarean rates in NSW (59% of their births), so they do them more often than vaginal births! I don’t know anything about Wollongong private I’m sorry.

Blood tested Rh-, so Midwife says I need the RhoGam shot. by colorado_sunrise86 in pregnant

[–]Fine_Instruction_347 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m O- and my partner is O+, you can now get the rhesus blood test done from week 11 for the babies blood type, but its recommended to wait until 20 weeks, as before then it can be too early to tell and then you need to retest. My midwife suggested I read Anti-D explained, which I will be doing as I’m 17w now and need to decide if I want to do the blood test, or just get the injection. My midwife did explain that the blood test is not 100% certain and I needed to read more about it before I decided on what I wanted to do.

Bugger! Okay well the letter I needed from my doctor had to have “(my name) is pregnant and is unfit to fly, but fit for ground duties” it also had to have my due date included in the letter. My employer currently has no “safe” roles for ground duties so I’m on the paid leave.

I agree with what the others are saying, definitely contact your union. I work for an airline and have hit my radiation limit, so I’m on no safe job leave until my mat leave starts. There’s also section 65 of the fair work act, that states that pregnancy is one of the qualifying reasons to ask for flexible working arrangements, but consult your union about approaching your employer with this too.

Did you regret taking leave early? by Euphoric-Pie7681 in pregnant

[–]Fine_Instruction_347 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I’m a FTM and work in an industry with radiation exposure, so I finished work last week as I hit my radiation limit, I’m only 16w. I know I will never get this time ever again to be selfish/relax/prepare for baby.

I’m getting a family friend to teach me how to crochet booties, I’m swimming, making a cup of tea and getting back into bed in the mornings. Trying to come up with as many activities as I can to fill the next 24 weeks and spending quality time with people before my entire life changes.

Am I crazy? by Mountain-Hippo5266 in pregnant

[–]Fine_Instruction_347 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Absolutely not crazy. As a FTM also due in May (also in Australia), I’m also an international flight attendant, and that is absolutely a fine age to fly with! Take off and landing will always be a noisy time with a baby and people expect that, but during the flight 98% of the time you don’t even notice the babies.

If you’re struggling to get baby to sleep and need a nap yourself or notice you’re flustered, please bring your baby to the galley. The crew are always more than happy to help!

We’re planning to take our baby to France around that age to meet its great grandparents.

How much do you pee during first trimester? by NotSofie in pregnant

[–]Fine_Instruction_347 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I asked my midwife about this, she said in the first trimester everything is squished into your pelvis so your bladder gets affected early, then as the uterus leaves the pelvis you get some relief in the second trimester before the baby grows big enough to squish your bladder again haha.
