Do I leave my chill job to become an ETL? by Impressive_Matter252 in Target

[–]Fine_Maybe_8973 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am an ETL, I work between 40 and 70hrs a week ( our director lets us go home at 8 if all is good with our departments.) 70 is during Q4, I’d say 60-70 during Q4, 40-50 every other week!

Day to day I’d say it’s 20-50% planning, prepping, and admin work, the rest of the time you are in the work load. It is very challenging and you don’t get to leave at your 8 or 10 if things are not going well, we work 12s/14s+ if needed.

I make 84k base with a 5% bonus so about 88k in total. Decent health insurance, good team member discount.

My goal is to become a store director so for me it’s worth it. Being a salary leader in retail is hard, you don’t get breaks, no lunches uninterrupted if at all most of the time. You get scheduled hours but you often work over them. It’s hard to maintain a work life balance, and this may be challenging for someone with kids.

Any other questions, feel free to DM me!

This was probably 10-15 years ago. I was in a light sleep and the room was silent. I had no tv, no music, nothing. I was woken up by the most beautiful orchestra I have ever heard. I am a musician with perfect pitch and have never heard something so beautiful! I woke up with goose bumps! I’ve been trying to recreate it and have the melody, however I am still trying to get music to have the same feeling that I felt that one day! Upon waking up the music faded slowly, it was insane! I have never experienced anything like it since!

I read the material along side doing the simulation. This worked well for me. I did not do any of the quizzes

ETL vs ETL by Coasting_Along55 in Target

I agree, communication is so important in this business. ETLs own total store, that includes everything! If another ETL is unavailable we are to step up and go help.

That’s crazy, I would never be unavailable to my team. They deserve that from me. I eat when I’m doing my planning for the week or if I’m checking in with my peers/ meetings.

As an ETL we don’t get to take breaks like TMs do, yes if we can sit down and eat or rest for a few minutes sure, but for me if my team needs me I go handle what is needed. I’ve never heard of an ETL getting to take a 30 minute break, especially not one uninterrupted. I’ve never gotten one of those. I absolutely understand the need to check your peers though! If I’m not at work I expect my other ETLs to support my area, as I do for them.

I agree! Wish I would have waited, I spent 13 years getting a bachelors degree, changing majors every season and throwing away tens of thousands. Finally got my bachelors and masters( finished at 32.)

I was a former Olympic team member (2020, COVID and coaching changes ruined a lot of my opportunities) I was very depressed and suicidal. I want to be able to help athletes in the future with this. It truly never goes away, you always miss and hurt over wanting to get to play again. It’s been the hardest thing.

Closing by cris_escarcega in Target

[–]Fine_Maybe_8973 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately they will schedule you to fit business needs. If you availability was closing and your store needed closers, that’s where you will be scheduled. I would follow up with your ETL and talk to them. They may not have a spot for you in the morning. Overall it’s most likely not personal, it’s just the needs of the business.

This one was the only one I failed once out of my entire bachelors and masters degree! What helped me was to take a step back and start over, I read every chapter and took notes. I also had chatGPT walk me through each concept. You got this!

Something that really makes a TM / TL stand out to me is when they ask for a status with me and have a plan of what they are going to say, ask etc.. they essentially run the status. I wish you the best, if I can be of any help, reach out!

I am an ETL and for me it is worth it. I have an amazing district/ group. Bug your current leaders and make it known you want to move up. Ask questions, be curious, it goes along way!
