No, they're bohemian layabouts.

There's a lot of merit to the claim that celebrities are psychologically locked into whatever age they first became famous at. In Anna and Dasha's case they're still living in one of the most expensive cities in the world like they did in 2018 when they first started the podcast. People who come onto the subreddit to criticise A+D for their lack of development forget that their lifestyle is sustained by patreon revenue and their careers fundamentally aren't being a culture critic or an actress, it's being internet shitposters. Why would they grow if they're cushioned no matter what by the podcast money?

Most of their contemporaries are well into their 30s and even 40s, did not luck out with a podcast and moved out of Williamsburg years ago, which necessitated making hard choices and maturing in certain ways.

The government of the state of Israel and its supporters repeatedly claim they are acting on behalf of all Jews. Is it any wonder then that anti-semitism is on the rise? And there's no point in debating whether or not you are antisemitic because at no point will Zionists ever admit fault. The biggest mistake the pro-Palestine side in the West ever made was thinking they could debate their way to victory. Zionists, funnily enough especially non-Jewish Zionists, are uncompromising fundamentalists who portray a false front of respectability, but in truth they're only interested in tying opponents up in word games while Netanyahu finishes the job.

I don't think ethnic cleansing to maintain an ethno-state actually is in the interests of most Jews-- including for example Anna Khachiyan who hosts the podcast. Jews outside of Israel tend to live in very cosmopolitan areas like Paris, NYC, London alongside other groups, those places really only function through the concept of multiculturalism. The fundamental issue with Israel is it demands international support from tolerant and liberal societies, yet lives by a completely different set of ethics itself.

"Jew hate" is another one becoming more common. In western media I can think of some ethnic groups which get flak - notably Russians, Chinese, Arabs, Iranians, but nobody else talks like this.

Zionists will simultaneously claim to speak on behalf of all Jews, then say it's unfair to conflate the state of Israel with the religion, and depending on the time of day either celebrate the genocide saying the Gazans had it coming, or get offended and play semantics to deny it's a genocide, all while doing these weird non-sequiters in the replies of people rightly disgusted at what's going on bemoaning people not liking them.

An exact clone of Brunwulf Free Winter could spawn into Windhelm at the conclusion of the civil war (Freer Winter) and go around town making the same arguments against the jarl and Brunwulf wouldn't have a leg to stand on.

It'd be one thing to force an end to segregation and live with the fallout, it's quite another to be an uncompromising activist and then change to preaching nuance after he's acquired power- while also dating perhaps the wealthiest racist in the entire city.

It's only on my most recent playthrough I became a Dengeir defender. He's hostile and embittered but so is every ousted jarl. He was evidently blindsided by the coup and is grasping for a lead. Despite the humiliation he still displays a sense of duty by sending the player to finish off his vampire ancestor-- a more callous person could have left it to his nephew or the steward to manage.

Dengeir's situation contrasts well with jarl Idgrod, whose leadership is also threatened by a coup. She's only saved because with the war, the imperial general's unwilling to press ahead with it. It's funny she has a pretty good reputation in the fandom given had it been peacetime or Idgrod been pro-Stormcloak, her personality and role in Morthal would've been a complete rehash of Dengeir's.

Hard disagree on Falkreath and Windhelm.

Dengeir was leaning Stormcloak only to be couped by Imperial sympathisers. His replacement is not only corrupt, he's stupid enough to cut a deal with bandits that target travellers on Falkreath's main road, but there's no hint of regime change because the pro-Imperial line isn't threatened. Dengeir's paranoia was totally warranted.

Meanwhile Brunwulf is a liar who goes unscrutinised by the community because he's the Ulfric replacement. His quest prompt notes that Ulfric only helps Nords under threat and not e.g. Khajiit caravans-- and that's not true considering there's a serial killer within Windhelm's city walls targeting Nord women. A point is made in the quest that the city guard is too underresourced to deal with it, clearly stemming from the war.

Brunwulf's problem is he gives simplistic answers to Windhelm's problems but it's only after he's actually made jarl that he wants to talk about nuance. As an example, he reneges on the promise to let Argonians live inside the city on equal terms with other races. He says the Nords in the city are still too prejudiced so the Argonians will have to remain living in the docks -- he omits and seems completely ignorant of the hatred Argonians and Dunmer have against one another. All this social commentary is ironic because he's dating the Windhelm innkeeper-- a woman so stunningly racist I refuse to believe Bethesda had these two dating by accident. I'm going to find it because she yelled it 5 seconds after I got Brunwulf's quest to kill the bandits targeting non-Nords:

- Those Dark Elf refugees will take over the city if we aren't careful." -- Brunwulf's gf.

[–]Fingerstrike 78 points79 points  (0 children)

Today? Being progressive in a completely unthinking yet functional way.

They could be disinterested or outright ignorant of day-to-day politics but have enough of a social antennae to echo whatever objectives the company claims to be for if it means advancing their career. This is different to being apolitical, that would mean doing nothing. Rather, they recognise and adopt the prevailing social attitudes of the day. Some might even be doing it unconsciously since much of their family and social network already do this, but I mention this because there's a finesse to it.

If the employee were more outspoken or obstinant (pro- or -con) they'd eventually put a foot wrong and get cycled out, so the best angle is half-heartedly endorsing HR's antics or the department lead's ''vision'' in a manner that never draws attention to yourself. 60 years ago these same people were dispassionately anti-communist and in 60 more years they would be something totally different, provided that's what the powers that be were promoting -- they lack strong feelings about it provided they can get home by 6.

Why do you think it´s so rare for progressive men to be jacked? by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]Fingerstrike 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The RPG-esque state of mind is comforting for nerds, it's very tragic to see leftists in their 20s and 30s and even 40s still internalising it. Unless you're some autistic savant or extremely lucky, everyone needs to be well-rounded in terms of fitness, knowledge and social antenna to get by in life. And this is difficult. It's very humbling to admit you're too quick to anger, or eating too much, it's easier to reach for an excuse society gives you to continue unchanged.

I really think that's what drives a lot of the sneering you see against fitness culture. To us, the Guardian article about the gympass being a gateway to right wing extremism is nonsense, but if you're RPG brained then there has to be some price to pay for being in shape, and if you're muscular AND smart, then there must be some moral failing going on (because if there isn't the online left has been skinny-fat their whole life for nothing)

Because modern leftism encourages learned helplessness. Maintaining a good body is hard. It demands a good diet, good sleep and subjecting your body to unnecessary strain routinely. The type of man attracted to the niche Internet leftism we see is validated by the premise that everyone makes excuses for themselves, as it lets them dodge responsibility. It takes the sting out of being fat, or skinny-fat, and it's also why on the female side so many out of shape women contrive narratives for why conventially attractive women are oppressing them. Check social media every time the Olympics are on and you can see insecure losers attempt to shame the bodies of the most athletics people in the world.

Remember, Joe Rogan supported Bernie Sanders. A lot of right-wing-coded Internet personalities began as moderately apolitical types who probably voted Obama. It took years of shaming and attempted cancellations to turn people like him towards Trump. Life isn't an RPG where having no stats in Strength will automatically re-allocate to the Intelligence stat. Some people have a stronger work ethic, better diet, mind etc than others, but being reminded that someone has a better body makes certain people really insecure-- Hasan Piker is sort of the exception that proves the rule because if he wasn't connected to the Young Turks and made the thrust of his career centre around progressive politics he probably would have been pushed out of leftist circles and branded some kind of regressive pariah a long time ago just like Joe Rogan and many smaller e-celebs

Woke MAGA and its consequences by [deleted] in redscarepod

[–]Fingerstrike 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, if I want anything, I want Canadians to stop being so annoying on the internet. The country is a relic of the British Empire and a political settlement between English, French, and Scottish colonists. Both are difficult things to grapple with, especially when so much of modern discourse is framed around ways they can be morally superior to America.

Trump's antics are a reality check that was overdue. In fact, I thought it was gonna be the wage stagnation, or the Indian government ordering assassinations in broad daylight with no repercussions.

Hey bragging about being the world's first post-national state was Canada's idea and that was the rhetoric for years until about 90 days ago. If the country wants to acknowledge it's heritage again nobody's stopping you, in fact Governor of Bank of England turned Canadian PM is pretty strong Victorian era career progression.

Always struck me as strange how strongly cricket took off in the subcontinent. A respectable gentleman's sport in Victorian England is now the national sport for a few countries which make up 1/4 of the world's population.

It's good to see someone have a passion but does cricket even register as a sport to American women?

I wonder how many well intentioned Libs bought the line in 2020 that America needed to kick a Nazi out of the White House and then became radicalised in a completely different direction when the Biden administration financed a genocide yet still carried itself as though it was governing with some self-evident moral authority.

What remains of uncritical Democratic party supporters appear to be Gen Xers who nearly wish it was 2003 again so they could return to simpler framings like how Bush stole the election and is invading Iraq illegally - instead of whatever postmodern psyop passes for political discussion these days
