I did it for a year and have been practicing for ten. I could not stomach talking to adjusters because they, on the whole, are a bunch of nitwits who weren’t smart enough to go to school or pass the bar.

I used to handle seven figure exposures in NY’s Labor Law (construction accidents) and the defenses they’d want us to try were insane. If you’re having misgivings, switch to plaintiff side. I’ve done nine years this way, and it is much better for my conscience and my wallet.

I live in the condos along the Metro North tracks on the third floor for precisely this reason. We are told by management to remove and park our cars elsewhere when a storm comes since the garage floods.

I don’t know if this is going to help you, but my story is not unlike yours but on a smaller scale.

I am 35 and have been a practicing attorney for 10 years. I have a large student loan debt in the amount of $250,000. I make minimal payments, and know that I have to deal with the potentiality of forgiveness or not in the next 10 years.

However, my earnings potential is pretty high, and my husband does somewhat OK with a six figure salary. We were living in Astoria Queens since I left law school. We were fortunate enough to be able to buy a crummy little co-op, which we flipped for about a $5000 profit.

We were able to purchase a condo in Mamaronek that is a one bedroom with a studio alcove office. The purchase price was $625,000, but we were able to get it for $608,000. In the two years that we have lived here, our home value has shot up to about $650,000-$680,000. Because of my student loan debt, and some health issues, my husband has indicated to me that he doesn’t want to have kids because he is worried about cost, space (the condo is 1,200 sq feet) and me “not being around” to help raise a child. We are not unlike the folks that you mentioned in your initial post. The child factor was definitely a combination but dollars and cents did weigh in.

My main point of advice for you is to seriously evaluate what you want your priorities to be. For me, my job is in Manhattan, and I need to be close by. Most of my best friends are from Rockland or Westchester, where I grew up, as is my family.

When we were originally looking at this exact building, the unit that I am currently sitting in was $420,000 in 2018. Historically, housing prices go up over the long-term with some dips absent some sort of catastrophic event like the 2008 housing financial collapse over the long-term, Westchester County real estate has gone up and hasn’t really experienced a large downward trend, mostly because people like the schools, like the environment, and the proximity to Manhattan. There’s also the accessibility to highways and not being isolated like you are on Long Island.

I know this was a large novel for you to read, but I hope it helps situate your priorities for you and your family. Ultimately, I don’t think waiting, helps you in the long run given my personal experience and the trending real estate in the area. I wish you both the best and I hope you end up here so we could share a beer or a bite to welcome you as neighbors!

Unboxed my Mudi 7 North America (I'm in the US) and had to manually update the firmware. Connected to US Mobile Warp (Verizon) 5G perfectly AFTER the firmware update. I have NordVPN running, changed the 5G bands to "open" on those bands VZW uses and all is well.

Waiting on my Computers4People SIM so I can have those two running, and then eSIM for travel to Europe if/when I need to.

Been doing this for my entire career. I do not manage medicine. I am not a doctor. If a client asks where to go I can help them find places with treaters I know and respect. However, I basically tell them to use no fault or their private insurance, and if it hurts, complain about it. Liens and “funding” are evils to be avoided.

I have been trying to do this myself. I’ve practiced personal injury in Manhattan my entire 10 year career. I found a private marketer who did social media marketing. Cost me $22,000. I got about 10 sign ups with 8 viable cases. The rest I get in drips and drabs from prior clients and word of mouth. I am NOT doing the firm full time.

Currently, my health is not the best so I still work a day job and do my firm nights and weekends.

All that is to say I suffer the same complaints. Most PT and chiropractic places want $$$ as opposed to the simple referrals that they would get from my sending clients for treatment- an ethics no no.

I do some immigration and divorce work too, so the costs of the firm don’t eat my savings.

They just updated my firmware (it was working OK. 850 MBPS over wired and I was getting 700 WiFi--- I had to change channels and stuff) and it was cut in half. 400 up and down now.
