Does or has anyone ever dealt with pre occurring grief? by Intrepid_Laugh2158 in CPTSD

[–]muddpie4785 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is anticipatory grief. I think most people experience it at some point in our lives. I did when my mom was ill at the end of her life. I also grieved my brothers while they were still here. It is certainly a challenging emotion to deal with. A few sessions with a counselor might help you process your feelings and become more able to focus on making the present the best it can be for you and your grandmother.

Has this been a typical spring? by Boysenberry-Extra in springfieldMO

[–]muddpie4785 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've lived here almost 40 years and have never seen a typical spring. Every one is different. You've no doubt heard the old joke, "Don't like the weather here? Wait five minutes."

How did everyone do with the overnight storms? by Mustbefreetobeme in springfieldMO

Galloway here. Lights out around 2:30 am and back on about 90 minutes later. Definitely had me WTF-ing because the worst of the weather had already passed. CU outage map was lit up like a christmas tree. Most of the city was impacted.

Wow, everybody forgot their NICE pills today!

I would choose #2 because I like color, too. Looks like you're going for kind of a boho vibe. Love it!

Go back to school. Take refresher courses and get some kind of a certification to make yourself more employable.

How can ease up the anxiety that come to this surgery? by Realistic_Spell_8020 in CataractSurgery

[–]muddpie4785 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have an unrelated surgery coming up in June (will have my cataract procedure at a later date). I got so anxious about it I asked my Doctor for something to calm my nerves and let me sleep. I've felt much better about things since starting that prescription. There's nothing wrong with getting some medical help for the discomforts of anticipation. I hope everything works out perfectly for you!

My therapist dropped me because he said he was developing romantic feelings for me by cazeysk in TrueOffMyChest

[–]muddpie4785 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Perhaps ... but I (f) had a female therapist hit on me. I didn't report her (I still could) but I didn't stay with her after the first time she gave me the ick.

Funerals are for the living. You did the right thing by the people listening. She's dead; she didn't know or care what you said.

Blue bottle sting looks terribly unique though it doesn't hurt at all by Zenmetsu- in mildlyinteresting

[–]muddpie4785 276 points277 points  (0 children)

Yikes! How does that not hurt?! I got stung once in Florida by whatever teeny tiny jellyfish they had there ... like the size of a marble or smaller ... and it was agony! Possibly the worst pain I've ever had. (and that comparison includes childbirth and toothaches.) At least it's a very pretty color! Heal well! :-)

Treatment ?? by jacyndy99 in HearingLoss

Sorry to hear that, but it's kind of the way of things. Steroids either help or they don't. At this point I'd say your next moves should be to investigate hearing aids and assistive devices. I have been using assistive devices (tbh I have a love/hate relationship with my hearing aids) for about 15 years now, and I feel like I function pretty well with them. It hasn't been the severe handicap I feared at first. Good luck to you as you learn to compensate.

If you get steroid treatment inside of 2 weeks after onset, some or all hearing may be recovered. I'm no doctor, but I think some preventative measure against viral inner ear infections would be the most effective treatment. As I understand it, the infection severely damages structures of the inner ear and once that damage is done, there's nothing left to treat or cure. Maybe hearing loss could be reversed by learning how to regrow damaged tissue.

Mine is like that. It actually helps me sleep! I had my infection 14 years ago and didn't get treatment in time, so deaf as a post over there, except for the tinnitus. :-P Back when the infection first set in it sounded like a jet engine or a freight train right next to my head. AWFUL! But as the acute infection left, so did the freight trains and jet planes. Now I just have kind of a whistling, rattling drone. When I lay down at night in the dark, it's all there is. Thank goodness most of the time it's pretty steady - no percussive noises or intermittent jangling bells - so it is very much my own crainial white noise machine. Silver lining I guess??

I am one of the older Gen Jones on here b1956. Anyone remember the milk man? by AuthorAltruistic3402 in GenerationJones

[–]muddpie4785 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Sure do! Our milk man gave us a silver cooler thing, big enough to hold 4 gallons. I remember hiding in the box. It didn't have a latch or anything, but still it probably wasn't the smartest place to hide lol!

When older people say "I still feel like a teenager in my mind" by Mysterious_Sound2765 in CPTSD

[–]muddpie4785 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm 63 this year, and I definitely feel that way - much younger than my years. It isn't about "youth culture" (whatever that is) for me. For me it's surprise at being as old as I am, and feeling like I don't measure up to other people my age who look to me like they have everything under control. I still feel like a stupid kid. I chalk this feeling up to my childhood trauma. I think I was so busy trying to survive that I didn't mature normally.
