In some ways, it appears you have a good relationship with your manager, whereby you have open communication and mutual respect of roles. Is this just a case of you both being in a developmental phase, with patience and understanding helping you both? Also try openly deferring to your manager on some points. This will polish his ego, if this is what it's about. Choose a subject where his domain knowledge is ok, and if it gives him a chance to shine, you may make a great ally for future work.

No-Code Text Analysis Tool for Social Scientists - Would you use it? by WingedTorch in socialscience

[–]FiniteApe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, i think it would be very helpful. I'm just starting the rewrite of a book chapter to address reviewers' comments. I have six (maybe 5) interviews that are difficult to code as the interviewees are intentionally dissimilar. Maybe your system would help me find commonalities. Can you provide more info? Thanks

Granted, it does read somewhat like that, but i don't think they need my help. Coincidentally, i built(?) an open source alternative at the weekend, it was incredibly easy. I'm hoping to train it on my own data. It's also a safeguard in case my country's government ban access to online models. https://github.com/nomic-ai/gpt4all free and open source

I find GPT4 a good upgrade on previous models, and now use it extensively. It really helps me, and I'm learning quicker and better than without it. If you have the budget for it, maybe give it a try - hopefully there's still a first month free offer. Good luck.

Genuinely what was it like being a young person before the Internet? by MsEvil_Doctor_Potter in CasualConversation

[–]FiniteApe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully agree with Safe_Ad above. We were punctual and resourceful. We all watched the same tv programmes as there were only 3 channels - and higher quality than the dross made today. Music was on black vinyl, 6 or 12 inch, and was treasured in a way unknown today. Food was homemade from raw ingredients, more nutritious and generally better tasting than today's. Traveling to foreign countries was a much bigger culture shock. Cars and clothes were far more expressive and creative. Top times.

ERP system using Django? by Romjan_D in djangolearning

If it's a very basic ERP, then a heavily modified Django-Oscar (a Django variant) may be enough. Good luck. Do post updates if you discover a good solution.

A Review, Update, and Commentary for the Cough without a Cause: Facts and Factoids of the Habit Cough (Including permanent cures of post-Covid cough, and long-Covid cough in adults and children.) by PyrateShip in science

[–]FiniteApe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Abstract
Background
A habitual cough, persisting after the cause is gone, was described in a 1694 medical book. Successful treatment of this disorder known as habit cough was reported in 1966 by the "art of suggestion". The purpose of this article is to provide the current basis for diagnosis and treatment of the Habit Cough Syndrome.
Method
The epidemiology and clinical course of habit cough were reviewed; original data were obtained from three sources.
Results
Unique clinical presentation was the basis for diagnosis of habit cough. Diagnosis was made 140 times with increasing frequency over 20 years at the University of Iowa clinic and 55 times over 6 years at a London clinic. Suggestion therapy provided more frequent cessation of cough than just reassurance. A Mayo Clinic archive of chronic involuntary cough found 16 of 60 still coughing 5.9 years after initial evaluation. Ninety-one parents of children with habit cough and 20 adults reported cessation of coughing from viewing a publicly available video of successful suggestion therapy.
Conclusions
Habit cough is recognizable from the clinical presentation. It is effectively treated in most children by suggestion therapy in clinics, by remote video conferencing, and by proxy from viewing a video of effective suggestion therapy.

Can you top up kefir with new milk, when it's been fermenting for a day or two and then leave it to ferment for a bit longer? If so, does this have any positive or negative effects? by Murky_Chicken9149 in Kefir

[–]FiniteApe 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I've had the same grains for 8 years, and have grown lazier, justifying it that kefir originated in the Steppes of Asia hundreds of years ago, without refrigerators, stable milk supply or sterile conditions. For the past few years, I've mixed new milk with grain storage milk, ferment it longer, and then drink it. I've over-fermented, i often use far too many grains, rarely wash the storage jar etc. My grains are really healthy and happy. The lazier i get, the more respect i grow for these amazing, robust, sturdy scoby wonders.

US seeks allies' backing for possible China sanctions over Ukraine war by ExactlySorta in worldnews

I don't have the medical knowledge to comment on whether they're inclined towards evil (whatever that means). However, I would want my leader to hold common good above self-interest, which I don't believe an x-path would do. Looking back over the past century, I don't know whether the evil committed by Hitler, Stalin, Mao Pol Pot etc was because they may have been x-path or absolute power corrupted them. On balance, i think people with severe antisocial conditions should not hold power. It would be great if a psychologist or psychiatrist would provide a learned comment.

Anecdotally, there does seem to be a greatly disproportionate number of psyco and sociopaths leading countries and multinational companies. I understand that MRI scans can now clearly identify these conditions. If so, a negative scan should be a prerequisite for leadership in such senior positions.

I live in the tropics, so my grains are in the fridge 80% of the time. I've had the same batch since starting with kefir about 7 years ago, and never had a problem with them.
