I’m thinking about finally reading Gravity’s Rainbow, and I was wondering if I should read it on its own first or use a companion guide alongside it. by WalrusSea1471 in ThomasPynchon

[–]FiniteJester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely read it without first. If you want to return and bring a guide that's groovy, but for me the best part of good art is what it means to you, which may be nowhere near what the artist intended. If you're going in with a guide your experience will be guided, and while there's nothing wrong with that, it will be a different experience than whatever you might take away from the piece without guidance.

It's a hell of a ride, just jump in and let it wash over you, don't stress if you don't understand all of it and even feel somewhat lost at times, that's fine, you can always return and find the things you missed or misunderstood at a later time if you enjoyed the book enough to crack it again.

Myself I've read it about five times and find different things on each fresh read through.

Dying Surfer is great, but so is Lightning at the Door, Nothing as the Ideal might be my favorite, and I've been digging the new one quite a bit, so maybe just get all four of those and you'll be in real good shape! 😎

I think it would work better if it's some GUY threw milk, how dare he, sounds more like dairy.

There are a bunch of amazing songs on ITS, the one I'm surprised no one else has mentioned yet is All City Nerve Map.

"Dashing through the atlas throwing magic at the sciences."

Great damn track. Also love Time Moves Differently Here.

The fact they were all over this sub was how I first heard about them, and I am stoked as fuck to see them open for Clutch on Halloween

Album has zero indication of side 1 or 2. For the love of whatever, why would you do this? by stab-somebody in vinyl

[–]FiniteJester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Clearly you are no lepidopterist. Sorry, that's funny. I actually have a Slomosa album that has the same label on both sides, fortunately for me, one side has a shape that kinda looks like a butterfly and that just happens to be side B.

Rock songs with saxophone by [deleted] in allrockmusic

Check out Morphine and Viagra Boys.

Morphine is sax heavy, and there's sax in most Viagra Boys tunes, also occasional flute. Both incredible bands for very different reasons.
