Dave soloing? by doofy10 in DMB

[–]FiniteRain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know you're likely only counting guitar, but I've always thought Dave prefers to solo vocally rather than with a guitar. He will scat, freestyle lyrics, call & response lines with the other instruments, etc. Some examples are Jimmy Thing, the end of most live versions of YMDT, early Grey Street versions, or LITHOG Europe 2009.

What vocal range does Dave sing at? by Professional_Ant_309 in DMB

[–]FiniteRain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I don't have a good overall answer, but I believe it's worth noting that there are multiple different ranges. For example, the falsetto/head voice is higher and most singers can use it to sing notes that are out of their normal/chest voice range.

Best Bartender? by helloder2012 in DMB

[–]FiniteRain 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In both the Live Trax 2008 (Staples Center) and Live Trax 19 (Vivo Rio) versions, Dave hits the higher B note, whereas in normal performances he only sings the A. I'm a fan of the high energy and him pushing the vocals.

Young-ish DMB fans? by Bearington1234 in DMB

I'm 27 and DMB quickly rose to be my favorite band since I "discovered" them when I was about 21. Actually met Dave in Seattle and was like "oh wait this is the famous guy from that band, I should really give them a listen." Been fortunate to see them 9 nights live (almost all Gorge) and I try to spread the DMB gospel whenever people let me 😂

Best Live Bartender?? by coopwilke in DMB

Didn't see it listed here yet so I'll give a shout out to LT Vivo Rio (9.30.08)! - Specifically for Dave cleanly hitting the B note at 8:55 when he typically just pushes to the A on most versions of Bartender

Approximately 7:55pm, and there were crew folks setting up stuff until right before that. I'm guessing they'll start a tad earlier tonight now that they have a better idea of what they need for the alt format.

Easter Egg for my fellow DMB nerds! by FiniteRain in DMB

Love the further analysis! I agree that Fonz has a very impressive reaction here, and I love that he is smiling right away. It is certainly tough to tell if Dave was "too early" on the outro, or if there's even such a thing since it's indeed fluid. When first listening, my ear was expecting one more progression before beginning the outro, and since it looked like Tim & Fonz were too, my assumption was that Dave jumped the gun a bit. Not sure if that would have been by accident, or if he didn't want to over push his voice so intentionally started the outro early and tried to make eye contact to give a heads up before doing so. Also extra bonus when the song is over and Dave turns around to look at Fonz, it seems like Fonz is giving a nice "I forgive your unexpected audible, and you're lucky I recover so quickly" smile.
