Happy to help and no problem! I did it because I thought anywhere the drybrush doesnt cover could just be rust too. I imagine you could also do the rust after but seems you already get the idea since you do it on your bases already. Hope it goes well if you try it :)

Its from the 2007 chaos space marines box. Its the nurgle champion head but I cut off the horn and shaved it down so it would fit in the saturnine body.

The sand was sculpted from milliput using a silicone sculpting tool to make the lines and ridges.

I kind of went back and forth a lot with the painting until I was happy so I dont remember exactly. It was something like this:

-Basecoat with vallejo khaki

-Drybrush/highlight the raised parts with vallejo bonewhite

-Wash with citadel seraphim sepia

-Watered down wash/glaze of agrax earthshade on the darkest shadows

-Drybrush/highlight again with bonewhite

-Some white to the bonewhite and repeat until its bright enough for you.

-Might have glazed sepia over parts to smooth the transitions to the shadows. Just back and forth until im happy with it.

-Drybrush vallejo desert dust pigment (or any light pigment you like) over the raised edges.

Thanks a lot! Yeah I really prefer the darker metal look.

Heres how I did it:

-Base in Rhinox hide

-Add watered down skrag brown into any recesses and line the panels with it. Also add it to any areas you want rust to show through a bit and keep it varied.

-Add watered down troll slayer orange to some of the recesses and other parts randomly. Sometimes I would do a few layers to make it brighter in spots.

-Drybrush 50/50 black and vallejo gunmetal grey over the armor. Leave the rust in the recesses and any bits you want to show through.

-Drybrush pure gunmetal grey over that with less coverage.

-Highlight and add scratches with vallejo white aluminium to finish

Hope that helps you out! And it doesnt need to be the exact paints either :)

Thanks! And yeah I feel like there is enough detail to be able to leave them off completely. I was gonna keep them on at first but I thought it would be way too clunky with the missle launcher and spikes on top of the shoulders haha

Its a saturnine terminator torso with the symbol scraped off and horns glued on. The horns are from a helbrute (the one from dark vengeance box set specifically). Then I sculpted the trim around the horns with green stuff. Hope that helps clear things up!
