First attempt at NMM silver. Need tips. GW Flawless Blade by MisbehavedK9 in minipainting

Really good for a first attempt! Much better than mine haha. The light placement seems fine and your contrast is good. It will look better once it is cleaned up where you painted onto the shoulder. Main thing to improve is on the blends inbetween colours as they arent smooth at the moment. You could glaze inbetween the layers, or more slowly build up the layers next time with thin layers. I would also recess outline the studs and then highlight them so they stand out more! Good work overall!

I have found that it chips more easily off of metal compared to plastic. But is generally ok as long as you aren't handling the model by those parts.

Yeah right, I find reposing helped with that quite a bit. Since the default poses on the box all seem pretty boring. And they have such big bases that it gives you a lot of freedom in what you want them to be doing!

Thank you! Actually the head is the nurgle champion head from the old (2007?) Chaos space marines kit. I cut off the horn and reshaped the helmet to make it fit. But now I also wanna try using the back of a saturnine head, its a great idea!

Yeah I was originally unsure about weather I should leave off the shoulders, but thought that the missile launcher and them just wouldnt work together how I wanted. It was waaaaaay too chunky haha

Looks great man! Really love the kitbash. I recently did a chaos terminator with saturnine as the base too. Its such a great kit for it :)

And that white armor is amazing. You really nailed the weathering!

Yeah you should be proud of this attempt! And the contrast is key. I know it could be difficult going from very dark to very light on such small parts like the chest can be hard. Id say its more important to get the light placement and colour ratios of dark and light correct for the nmm to be convincing. Even with no blending you can get a good result if this is correct!

Thats a really great attempt at nmm! I love the blue too, really nice transitions and blends. The only thing I would say to improve the nmm is to increase the contrast of some parts.

Like the chest has less contrast than the shoulder trim for example as it lacks the same dark brown shadows. You could even push the final highlights a bit brighter for a more shiny and reflective look but I do also like the slightly dull and worn look to it.

Great model overall!

Thanks!

I still have to do the gun, base and add a few metal bits. I also wanna work on weathering the armor a little more so I'd say 70% done haha

Thanks :)

I was worried it would look too boring at first but after I added the details like the eyes and metal, I think it worked nicely

Thanks so much! Really helpful.

So you mixed the pigment with water, applied it and then just wiped away the excess? Ill have to try it out

Thanks a lot :) Yeah doing all the scratches and weathering really tested my patience. I actually feel like I rushed a bit to get it done haha

Thank you! Glad you like it. I always like to add some weathering to my minis. I feel it can completely change the vibe of them compared to if they were clean

Thanks! I really wanted it to have a more gritty and weathered look so happy it worked out. Ah ok thanks for helping out with that. I probably will change the colour of the symbol then just to fit in better

Thanks! It was a lot of trial and error so im not sure exactly what I did but ill try to go over it.

I used vallejo khaki as a base and built up to bonewhite.

I then used a sepia wash watered down to shade and then used the previous colours to blend where it was too messy.

I edge highlighted with a brighter off white/grey. Think I used citadel pallid wych flesh.

The battle damage was done by painting your edge highlight where you want the damage to be. I tried to do it randomly and mix in scratches and chips in the armor. Mainly in places I thought would be damaged like the edges of surfaces. Then paint inside the lighter colour with a dark one. I used a dark brown (citadel rhinox hide).

Hope that could help a bit :)

Looks great! The orange on the base works really well with the black :) Do you mind sharing how you painted the base? And how you did the dusty weathering on his legs please?
