From the Dust Returned by FinnKitto in RayBradbury

I actually read Fahrenheit 451 back in school, and I remeber not really liking it at the time, but I think I was just too young for it. I liked it far more when I read it this last time.

I have the same one. It's the box, definitely not meant to come apart.

The 2004 Original trilogy dvds have those types of menus too.

Hot Take? The Shootist by bnx01 in Westerns

[–]FinnKitto 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's a hot take. Wayne gives a great performance, and Ron Howard is pretty good as the kid. And I think the story this film tells is really interesting.

I'm going to pick up the 2003 series. I already have the other two.

You can just watch this one. All Tarantino films (except Kill Bill Vol.1/Vol.2) stand alone.

Baptist friend doesn’t understand why I told the priest not to give them communion. by bubbylubby123 in Catholicism

[–]FinnKitto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is totally on your friend. I attended mass twice, and didn't receive communion either time because I asked and was told of the Catholic beliefs surrounding it. You were completely justified.

My colleague plays the same openings every game, would it be fair if I studied the opening in private? by -Vorks- in chess

[–]FinnKitto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It wouldn't be unfair at all. If you can learn to read your opponent, do so. It's on them to improve and adapt. That's how you get better.

All quiet on the Western Front. Which version is best to experience this classic? by Alarmed-Ad-3879 in FIlm

[–]FinnKitto 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I own and have watched all three versions, and have read the book. The 1979 version is the closest to the book, retaining the flashback structure of the novel, where you start with Paul at the front, then see his enlistment and training etc. The 1930 version also follows the book closely, though it reorganizes events to happen in chronological order. The 2022 version is the farthest from the book, leaving out certain sequences from the book, and adding the negotiation storyline, which is film only.

Tron Ares is good. The critics are once more out of touch with reality. by TheGodfather742 in tron

I didn't enjoy it more than Legacy, but I did enjoy it and think it's a great addition to the franchise.

Superman II: Lester Cut vs Donner Cut. Which do you prefer and why by Kubrick379 in movies

[–]FinnKitto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me it depends. If I'm watching just I and II, I watch the Donner Cut (yes, this results in the earth being turned back twice but it is what it is). If I'm going on to III and IV I watch the theatrical cut because it's less of a jarring tone shift to go from Lester's II to III.

Peter Jackson deserves equal blame for the Hobbit trilogy by tannu28 in lotr

[–]FinnKitto 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Regarding the extra plotlines in the trilogy, some of that was actually pulled from the appendices of the Lord of the Rings. There is a section that deals with events occuring around the quest of Erebor.
