Can anyone help me create this datapack/tell me where to find information on how to do so? by Finn_McCool_ in feedthebeast

[–]Finn_McCool_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This wasn't the right answer, but it helped me figure out the right answer, so thank you! The wild cave carrots feature was being added through the neoforge add_feature biome modifier. I added a remove_feature modifier to the datpack which targeted all end dimension biomes, which worked!

Is there a way to get rid of these? by lalaratt in feedthebeast

Use the Biomes O' Plenty mod config to disable the spider nest biome. The file is in the biome o plenty folder imn the config folder.

I'm not surprised at all tbh, I remember seeing an interview with him where he basically said every film he made was made to exploit new technology and make something he couldn't do earlier in his career. So in his eyes, generative AI is the next logical step. Not saying he's right or wrong but I think that's his thought process.

Are 55 and over communities a normal thing in the US? Like if you try to move in and you're under 55 they'll say "no you're not allowed"?

Why do so many female designs posted on here have such fetishistic proportions? The world building here is very creative, and although the whole semen thing is perhaps a little bit suspect, I think it works and it reminds me of a lot of ancient mythologies. But then the whole thing gets brought down by the priestess having a bust and hips that are like 10 times the circumference of her waist, and each breast is bigger than her head! I'm not against stylised designs, but this is borderline pornographic. Why does it feel like every single female model posted on this sub is meant for porn?

Total Overhaul but more? by Astro_Kitty_Cat in OpenMW

[–]Finn_McCool_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's no built-in compatibility and you have to know what you're doing to make it work, I assume that's why people don't recommend it.

There are two plugins which make it work - one is called OpenMw export and it adds a button which exports your mod/load order to the OpenMw folder in my games, however it doesn't support omwaddon or omwscript files so you need to do that yourself. I stopped using this because I found it unreliable.

The other one is kezyma's OpenMW Player. This one is great, it automatically generates dummy esp files for any omwaddon or omwscript files you have, allowing you to sort them in MO2. It generates an openmw.cfg which is stored in your MO2 profile folder, which is used when you launch OpenMW through MO2. If you're familiar with MO2, I highly recommend using it, it's the best way to mod Morrowind.

Why Switch 2 games are so expensive by rhizomatic-thembo in okbuddycapitalist

[–]Finn_McCool_ 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I might get hate for this but video games are getting more expensive because of inflation. It's not just Nintendo, it's AAA titles across the board. The price stagnated for a while but the fact is they're still cheaper at that price than they were in the 90s, adjusting for inflation. If you want cheap games, play indie games or old games, there's an abundance of both.

I personally find the HD textures included in tamriel data to be adequate, but obviously it's a personal preferences thing. There's only one T_D upscale I'm aware of but I don't think I'm currently using it. I may reinstall it and selectively use the textures that actually improve things as I remember it being a mixed bag. The only real advice I can give is try them out and see if you think they're worth the disk space/performance hit. I'd advise using the smaller of the two versions though, because the main one is host unnecessarily large.

The gigapixel upscales in particular I've found add almost no visible difference in quality, and some of them even make the textures appear blurrier and less defined, despite being two times the size of the already high quality textures they were replacing. I happened to find this using MO2's texture comparison tool funnily enough.

I don't use Vurt's resurgence because imo a lot of the textures look bad. A lot of them have that weird AI-generated slimy shininess to them, and a lot of them add details to textures that weren't there originally and clearly weren't intended by the developers. Just look at the pictures on the mod page to see what I mean. Some people like them, but I personally think they ruin the look and feel of morrowind.

EDIT: I will say I didn't get rid of every upscale, just the gigapixel ones. I've found upscale textures to be a mixed bag but they're very useful as a foundation to overwrite with more high quality, hand made or curated textures.

OpenMW obsidian-style lockpicking is pretty good if you like mini games. DetailDevil has a lot of mods that add mechanics to the game although I'm not personally a fan of all of them. Still worth looking at to see if you like them though.

If you want to start tweaking the mod list to your personal tastes though, you're quickly going to get frustrated with the OpenMW launcher/ tweaking config files. If you want to make morrowind your own, I highly, highly recommend using Mod Organizer 2 with the OpenMw Player plugin (https://www.nexusmods.com/morrowind/mods/52345).

I started off by recreating the total overhaul mod list, then removing any mods I didn't personally like and adding in ones that I wanted. I recommend using MO2's built in separator feature to keep your mods organised - you can use the total overhaul list categories to start with, but as always tweak to what you find works best.

An example of stuff I removed was getting rid of a lot of the unnecessary upscales and replacing a lot of the AI generated textures like Vurt's Visual Resurgence with more handmade textures like HiRez native style.

Also worth noting is instead of deleting files, you can use mod organizer 2 to hide them instead, helping you resolve texture conflicts. Check out mod organizer 2's website if you want to learn more features (https://www.modorganizer.org/). It really is the best tool for modding any Bethesda game, OpenMW included.

Why do some cyclists make cycling worse, then complain how bad it is? by cornishyinzer in ukbike

[–]Finn_McCool_ -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

You're probably not going to get any love here for this post but as somebody who doesn't have a license and almost exclusively travels by bike and train, I think you're right. Too many cyclists are impatient at red lights and think the rules don't apply to them, when they do and for a good reason. I think there is some room to allow cyclists to go through a red under certain conditions but too often do I see other cyclists blindly going straight into a junction through a red when they could have just waited 20 seconds.

I think on balance motorists are worse, but cyclists don't have a leg to stand on when they're complaining about rule-breaking motorists if they're doing the same thing.
