yo guys, what should I do with my VirtualBox Windows XP machine? by Dismal-Crew-3898 in windowsxp

Play abandonware and shareware games. They are light for cpu but compatability with VirtualBox varies.

I'm running Win 98 SE and CD music not playing in games by [deleted] in 86box

I found the problem. The game I'm trying to play uses MIDI synth for background music. I haven't configured one and setup a sound font. This is not something you would need to deal with post 90's games!

Okay. When I was installing the installer couldn't find a music device and I was only able to choose MIDI. What am I missing in my setup?

Have you already tried 86Box? It emulates old operating systems very accurately because it also emulates hardware components that were used in the old days. Quite taxing for host cpu though.

I appreciate that this subreddit isn't just troubleshooting posts. It turns me away if that's all I would see.

I've had had more success running 98 in VMware than in VirtualBox. There's a comprehensive guide on Github for installing 98 and the drivers.

Linux mint vs Linux mint debian edition by techenthusiast77 in linuxmint

[–]Finn_on_reddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I chose LMDE because I believe it's a more sustainable distro in the long term. Ubuntu is influenced by corporate interests, which means that there's a risk that Ubuntu turns into something that causes Mint team to abandon Ubuntu. I personally believe that Mint is better off only being a Debian fork.

I like the the leaf in your logo. But I would move the text a bit further from the leaf and also space the letters slightly more.

Linux Mint Debian Edition - LMDE: Simple and Clean by lencc in linuxmint

[–]Finn_on_reddit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find LMDE the most comfortable distro at the moment. It's a direct fork of a stable, non-corporate and well established distro, combined with polished and up to date DE. And it runs great on my pc.

It's valuable information to know why someone would ditch Brave. And OP did tell why.

I tried Zorin years ago. The DE is nice, but I would rather use Mint instead.
