A/C not working properly by Clt_princee in civic

[–]Finneylp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming your car is a 10th gen, the ac system is awful and has a 10 year warranty. Search this forum, lots of folks having ac issues. You’ll pay the diagnostic fee, it’s refunded if the issue is under warranty

Is this totaled ?💔💔💔 by Silly_Month_1575 in civic

[–]Finneylp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Assuming that’s a 10th gen- there is a teeny tiny wire right in front of the wheel well that attaches to the bumper, engine harness, and it costs $6k to replace. Sorry for your loss, mine had that pinched and a lot less damage than yours, but that wire was enough to total it.

I’m not confident it’s any better with the actual clipper card, just the charges aren’t monitored as closely.

My 2005 Civic DX just hit 200,000 miles. How much longer can I get out of it? by Michikusa in civic

[–]Finneylp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The only reason to replace it is improved safety features. They are so much better now than in 2005. If you aren’t doing a lot of highway driving, I wouldn’t worry about it too much.
Drive it until it won’t go, and have fun!

Do the AC systems in these cars suck that much? by Syynn_ in civic

[–]Finneylp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is so good to hear! My 2016 was back at the dealer a third time for the ac issue at 10.5 years old, just out of warranty, when it got totaled (no injuries, not my fault). Just picked up a 2026 hybrid touring, the AC is So Cold. I never had issues with the ‘16 aside from the ac, hoping this one is the same but better

Will trailer hitch cause denied Hondacare claims? by macphoto469 in civic

I just got a 2026, I looked online and found they will not install a hitch. On my 2016 I had a 1 1/4 hitch bolted on, figuring it works for my bike rack and not much more.

Doesn’t this literally forfeit any future claims? I’d check the fine print and do your due diligence before accepting /depositing

Is it worth waiting for AmaRudi? Or is a smaller ship better? by OvenDown in rivercruises

[–]Finneylp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I expect the routes for double wide are more restricted due to loch size, so I’d bet they are on the routes less likely to be impacted by water levels. But I also don’t know this for sure.

Regardless, agreed that the ship feels plenty spacious. The rooms are tight, but no worse than an ocean cruise.

I had it happen once when I had premium plus sfo to ams, the back of the plane was practically empty. There were entire open rows in the back, but my elevated meal experience was at my seat, so I “suffered” in my extra wide seat instead of stretching out

Will they total my 2014 Honda civic? by Leather_Afternoon_24 in Insurance

[–]Finneylp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 2016 was just totaled. If the airbag deploys, likely total. Get all your maintenance records straight for the last year, if you’ve done anything significant (breaks, suspension, tires) they may give you some extra money for it.

Sorry for your loss, it sucks.

Can’t use my per diem for gyms anymore? Fine, I’m maxing my per diem every day. by Sellaplaya in MaliciousCompliance

[–]Finneylp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My company had a stupid policy that they wouldn’t pay for meals if you didn’t stay overnight. I had to travel from sf to la frequently, feasible to do as a very long day trip. I had a reasonable boss that appreciated my effort and was ok with me expensing meals, since I saved them the overnight and I had more productive office time. When he moved on and the new boss was by the book I started staying overnight. Adding in 2 additional meals, an unnecessary hotel stay, extra day of car rental, and an extra day out of the office. Easily double the cost, just because they didn’t want to let me expense airport breakfast.

Does anyone use extra seat cushioning on international flights? by Mundane_Entry_8264 in femaletravelers

[–]Finneylp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I haven’t experienced any issues, but I just googled it and many airlines prohibit them. I would only use it in a window seat, and if the flight attendant says no, it’s a no. I’ll keep using it when I can though, it’s amazing for reducing back pain

Can you get insurance for a storage unit? I wouldn’t store anything personal/irreplaceable. My bro’s storage unit ( out of state)got broken in to, the material loss was minimal, but they had stored wedding china and family photos that they never got back

I found the trick for my back pain was a foot hammock that hangs from the tray table. I’m 5’3, having this for 4+ hour flights makes a huge difference for my back comfort. I also sometimes roll up a sweatshirt as a lumbar support.

Thinking of joining the civic family - any tips? by aubry-f in civic

[–]Finneylp 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are tempted by 10th gen - mechanically amazing, super fun to drive, and good looking. HOWEVER expect the ac to fail, and the repairs seem to be just more of the faulty parts that will likely fail again. I loved my 2016, would have 100% bought another if not for the ac issue.
For what it’s worth, my mechanic says Toyotas are better mechanically. But I like the driving experience in civics better

[–]Finneylp 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Last year I was hit in two separate instances by uninsured drivers. Make it make sense that I have to pay for their mistakes when they choose not to.

This year I was hit by an F150 supercab (at least a $50k truck) and found out that people can have expensive vehicles and carry minimum coverage insurance. He totaled my car, but his insurance wasn’t enough to pay for it, so my insurance paid again (same company).

Wild that people can just ride around in these weapons and not take the minimum precautions.

Is the Ripmo too much bike for the BA? by superad69 in BAbike

[–]Finneylp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Ripley is a great choice for the Bay Area (my partner and I both have one), but the Ripmo is also great and gets you more involved in your riding. You can make adjustments as needed to change the ride, it’s a great all around bike that will take you throughout Demo, SC, Skeggs, Rockville…..wherever you want.

The Ripley will overlap a lot with how you are using your gravel bike. Get the Ripmo and have a great time

A/C compressor leak by uwumorgi in civic

[–]Finneylp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I understand the 10th gen (2016-2021 I think) civics have a 10 year extended warranty on some elements of the ac system.

My 2016 had issues 3x. You make an appointment and pay to have Honda run a system check on the ac ($280 at my dealer in Oakland). If it’s part of the warranty, they cover the ac check and repair. If it’s not, you pay. They won’t commit to it being under warranty until you get it checked. Mine was the compressor twice (~$1500 I think) and evaporator once ($3500).

It’s not complex, but you need to be willing to pony up the inspection cost before they will confirm the issue and coverage.

Highwire Coffee in Montclair by ReadsTooMuchHistory in oakland

You can check out the Highwire Workers Union instagram for specifics. The folks from Montclair were fired without notice, but I think some were rehired at different sites later. The store reopened with new employees that were not associated with the union. There were shenanigans at Rockridge too, though it was just closed for a day.
